...ISIS’ CATACLYSMISM: A PHILOSOPHICAL APPRAISAL By Dominic E.B. Anyalagbuna 1. ABSTRACT: The very inhumane hazards of the so-called Islamic militant group named ISIS are indeed highly cataclysmic! However, this paper is faced with the problem of undertaking a philosophical examination of the named group. This, the paper does, using the critical-evaluative method by considering their history, aims and activities. Upon this examination, this work discovers that, among other relevant theories, this rebel group seems to be operating on the Transcendental Idealism of Immanuel Kant which states that ‘only ideas in the mind exist,’ though one cannot absolutely arrive at it. This theory follows from the militants’ idea of Muhammad’s prophecy that ‘there will be a time when the whole world will be subjected under a ‘caliphate,’ with a ‘caliph’ as their head. Nevertheless, in the end, this treatise highlights that the solution to ISIS’s crisis is mental and intellectual re-formation. In such-wise, this work adequately recommends an urgent mental re-configuration founded on re-interpretation of the Quran among these Islamic extremists, which fundamentally, is the task of philosophy to rationally and critically accomplish. 2. PREAMBLE: There is a profound state of topsy-turvy in almost the whole countries of the world, but principally and most intensely in Syria and Iraq. This is superabundantly generated by the insurgent undertakings of the Islamic militants baptised ISIS. However, there...

...The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria Hank Gray American Military University The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is the biggest threat to the Unites States of American in the world today. It is not a question of if they will attack but when they will attack on American soil. To really understand how they might do it and why they want to one must first look at their history and beliefs. Al-Quade started during the Cold War when Russia invaded Afghanistan. The United States was against all things Russian and started to support the locals fight back against the Russians. This led to the United States giving Al-Quade weapons and training. After the withdrawal of the Russians in 1988 a named Ahmad Fadhil Nasal Al-Khalaylah joined Al-Quade. Once there he met a man named Sheikh Abu Muhammad who had a lot more violent outlook then Obama bin Laden. Unlike Bin Laden, Al-Khalaylah, who changed his name to Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, grew up very poor and was a lot more extreme because of this fact. In 1999 he returned to Jordan and formed his own organization known as Jamaat Al-Tawhid Wal-Jihad or the Organization of Monotheism and Jihad. On September 11, 2001 Al-Quade made their motives known when they committed a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and another flight that crashed before reaching a target. This would led to the United States invading Afghanistan in 2001 and in 2003 Iraq. Zarqawi’s group was...

...“They want to go back and reject modernity, well I think we should help them, we ought to bomb them back to the stone age” said U.S. Senator Ted Cruz on Fox News. These days most of the time we hear about ISIS on the news and whether or not it’s time to go in and get rid of them. The Islamic state is an unrecognized state and a sunny jihadist group in the middle east which has brought fear all around the world. Creating destruction and fear, the Islamic State has been tearing families apart and becoming an epidemic. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant otherwise known as ISIS today started in 2013 by key leaders who were prominent during the Iraqi insurgency. They are well-armed, financed, and always recruiting new members. Showing how...

...after watching the video, I’ve learned a great deal about Isis. These are some of what I learned, Isis was formed in 2013 in the islamic state of Iraq and Syria. They are a jihadi Salafist militant group. They are gruesome killers and are known for their brutal and horrific lashing punishments, mutilations, beheadings and crucifixions. They recently have made little kids as small as the age of 5 into bombs and blowing them up as an act of showing other people how strong they are and what they can do. Secondly they also get the attacks on video and post them on social sites as a threat to people around the world. They have captured women mostly islamic and have made them slaves, men have turned into brutal inhuman, ruthless, merciless, and savage killers. ISIS operates in Iraq and Syria and are slowly capturing more cities. The self-proclaimed leader of Isis is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and he has two deputies one is responsible for Syria and the other for Iraq. ISIS has rapidly expanded its control over Iraq and Syria by taking control of towns and cities near major supply passageways, critical foundation and border intersections. Isis started as an al Qaeda splinter group. ISIS is also known as (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) which stands for ISIL and Islamic State which they symbolize as (IS). ISIS has approximately taken over Syria and Iraq almost completely. I've come to realize that he goal and ambition of ISIS is to create an Islamic state, which is led by a leader known...

...keep fighting the militant group known as ISIS, but shouldn't do more than air power. While troops are on the ground there is a greater chance that ISIS can get hold of more U.S. troops and kill them. There have been over 10,000 ISIS fighters killed, but still that has barely made a dent in the amount of fighters they have. It is too much of a risk to send U.S. troops on the ground, so that should be left as a last resort. The normative principle I am arguing is the just war theory. The idea that violence can be justified under certain criteria. The seven pieces of criteria are just cause, last resort, announcement of intention, reasonable hope of success, proportionality, right intention and just conduct. Each of these will be described in deeper meaning throughout this paper. Also in this paper, I will be explaining how the different criteria help in deciding what is considered just. The first criteria is the Just Cause, stating the war must be justified by the right reason. The right reason in this case being the defense of one’s self and others. The war against ISIS meets this criteria because ISIS...

When I start with a rough draft I always write in first person. I have some trouble with my grammar, but I continue to grow as I further my education. My Media essay, “Sexism Manifest in The Arena”, dealt with the issue of how prevalent sexism is in our society even in popular public figures like Hilary Clinton. In my RBAA essay I talked about how America needs to correctly respond to the intimidating terrorist group, ISIS....

...2017. I was rooting for him all the way, but I do have some concerns. I actually know what is happening now with the country and so I obviously have some things I want to voice. First concern is the wall, that is upsetting people, and it may cause something none of us want. Also how are we going to deal with ISIS, I want to get rid of it, but I would prefer it done without starting another war. Last concern I have for this country is, the getting rid of common core. The build a wall was a good campaign for Trump, but the wall shouldn’t actually happen. I do agree that immigrants should been legally, and if they aren’t then they need to leave. The wall though may be a little extreme. I doubt that it would have actually happened because Donald Trump has to go through hundreds of people to get this approved and the probability of that is very slim. Now that Trump is elected he needs to find another way to decrease the number of illegal immigrants in the country, and increasing border control is a good start. Even if he does get the wall approved, there is no way that he could Mexico to pay for all of it....

...Exploring the history of materials and manufacture in Jake Phipps Isis Folding Chair Figure 1: Jake Phipps. (2007). Isis Information. Isis Information. 1 (1), 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0lF_iPLpcE Have you ever looked at a product and actually known what led to the materials and manufacture of what you are looking at? This essay will examine and look into the history and manufacture of the materials used in Jake Phipps ISIS folding chair. This essay will also look into how the industrial revolutions contributed to the development of these material’s. The ISIS chair designed by Jake Phipps is a combination of plywood, softwood timber and finished in lacquer paint. The chair folds completely flat to a depth of 3cm. The chair is made from a series of flat geometric panels that are linked together and contained within its own encasing frame. Each panel is constructed from several high-strength laminations designed to flex and support the user. (Phipps, 2007) Phipps originally manufactured the chair on a small scale but once the demand grew, he worked with Gebruder Thonet-Vienna to produce the chair for the consumer market. This chair gave Phipps his foot in the door (Phipps, 2011). It was not a huge financial success but the opportunity’s that arose with Newspaper articles and journals gave Phipps the recognition from his peers in the design industry. During an interview with the author Phipps was asked to describe his design philosophy. I try...

...What I mean by this is that motive of the terrorist groups has changed drastically from the left leaning groups of the 1970’s, and the extent of how far these groups are willing to go to achieve their goals has shifted as well. For example, the Red Brigades, a left wing terror group that was active in Italy during the 1970-1988, were not nearly as destructive as a group such as ISIS, and they often only targeted political figure and tried to avoid killing bystanders. This is in direct contrast to how ISIS conducts their organization. ISIS will often target public places with weapons such as suicide bombers or even just trucks, to inflict as much collateral damage possible. This is mainly why I believe that while military action is not the best option, it is not something we should do away with completely. Tactics such negotiation that worked with left wing groups in the past will most likely not be useful here, due to how hostile groups like ISIS are towards the United States. Negotiation would also require us to do away with the policy that the United States has used since the election of Nixon, that policy being that the United States does not negotiation with...

...of Roman life during the Pax Romana. What one can gather from the different stories that play out during the adventures of Lucius is that the Roman Empire was far from a highly disciplined and law-abiding society. Instead, it was filled with a population that was reckless in its treatment of others, whether it is theft or a seemingly unquenchable desire for personal satisfaction. At the same time, the writing style of Apuleius makes the reader find the humor and comical relief in every situation. Even though life as a Roman provincial may have been filled with a careless attitude, bringing with that both the good and bad consequences, Apuleius makes it clear in the final chapters of his piece that there is a need for change. The piece by Apuleius illustrates society during this time as one that is ruled by unlawful and unethical actions throughout. Initially, one can see that Lucius himself is driven by a need to satisfy his own desires, regardless of the consequences. Whether it is to engage in sexual encounters, or fulfill his curiosity about the magic powers of women, Lucius focuses solely on himself. Lucius is a reflection of society as a whole, and once he is turned into an ass, he sees that society is filled with destructive people. In Books 3 and 4, the bandits present an example of exactly what is wrong with society. Even though all communities have theft, it is clear that these men do not consider anyone but themselves, and what they are out to get. Even though the...

...There a horrible situation going on in the Middle East involving women’s rights. Women can not work or do anything without the permission of a man. Therefore people have been reacting in different ways, some people have protested through writing, others have protested through actions and some other have done nothing because they want to keep oppressing women. Some people protested actively to help women’s right. For example in document #2 you see males posing for the media wearing a burqa to show their solidarity to Afghan women. This suggests to me that not all the men in the Middle East are in favor of oppressing women; they want them to also have rights. Another document that shows people protesting is document #7, this document shows an iran soccer player (women) in a veil while playing a game. This is a way to protest because she's playing a sport and she's not supposed to be doing that. Doc #9 is also added to this list because in Dubai they're trying to educate women so that they could be part of the booming economy. This suggest that they recognize the intelligence of women could be really helpful to their world. Therefore these ways of protesting have been the top ways of actively fighting for a better Middle East....

...Philosophy Paper What should really be blamed for terrorist incidents? The article written by Deepa Kumar and the debate between Ben Affleck and Sam Harris mainly discuss the issue of Islamophobia, whether it is justified or not by the liberals. The article depicts how the author critiqued the trend against Islamic religion due to the terrorists and warfare in four ways. The author stated that the Islamic religion should not be blamed for violence just because of a few terrorists. All the religions have a similar history of violence, so that even a barbaric history could not be the reason to claim the whole religion is violent and evil. Otherwise, all the religions should be classified as inherently violent. Furthermore, the author stressed that there should be no distinguishment among different religions. The intrinsic value for all religions is similar, which is to give people belief. Neither the Catholicism nor the West is superior because the strong power of the western countries and desires to gain resources according to the author. The aim of the author is to point out the Islamophobia is not justified, and it accounts to the discrimination and racism towards Islam and Muslims. Similar views can be found in the debate, although the debate is more focused on the recent ISIS issue rather that the Iraq war. Ben Affleck holds the view that the terrorist activities should be only associated with few extremists in the religion, and it is nothing to do with the religion and...

Espionage and Intelligence wrote, “Islamist extremists had given plenty of warning that they meant to kill Americans indiscriminately and in large numbers.” In December of 2016, more than 41% of Americans believed that Islam’s are likely to be violent and that has to do with their faith. In addition more than 50% of Americans think most of the Muslims in America are “anti-american”. Most middle eastern people face more discrimination than people of color. 39% of “our people” think the media is fair to Muslims and they deserve to get treated disrespectfully. They mostly believe that just because their Muslim or Islam that their apart of al-Qaeda or the ISIS group and they do it for their religious beliefs. Their religion hasn’t changed. Remember when Bin Laden got killed, supposedly, in a hotel lobby after a show, as noticing these white ladies watching CNN covering the action, they read the headline and then they all started clapping.” This quote shows the double standards Americans have. It’s been a political shake up and religion. In addition a media shake up. Us as Americans confuse the two. The changes in the middle east have been drastic. For example, their military and social changes. We can’t blame them for coming here and trying to get away from their everyday wars. Terrorists aren’t...
