...various challenges and circumstances of life. The challenges I face in my life are work, school and my personal life. Without personal responsibility I would not be able to balance between them. While not everyone believe you need to have personal responsibility to succeed, I believe that having personal responsibility is the key to success in college and in life because it is our capability to handle all of life’s challenges and accepting responsibility for our actions. Life brings each one of us so many challenges and it is hard to balance all of them together without getting stressed. Personal responsibility is needed in order to balance all of these challenges. I never thought I would be capable of working fulltime and going to school but I took action by putting my personal responsibility to use. It was hard for me to accept responsibility at first because I have never been a responsible person but I realized without it college success would be impossible. Failure to accept responsibility for the things in my life that made me unhappy would have led to me making excuses with no progress toward the goals in my life. I decided that I was in charge of my life and I was going to accept the added challenge of going to college into my life. In order to succeed in college I will need to accomplish goals and gain time management skills. My first goal accomplishment is to make a plan that helps me balance both school and work. The plan involves setting priorities, taking care of myself...

...“You do not need to come to school tomorrow, unless you buy a new broom.” My first grade teacher said. When I heard that, my body is shaking. When I was 6 years old, I become a very independent child. My parent did not spend any time for me, because they need to take care of their business. They sent me to the school that is very close to my house. So, I can go to school by myself. They didn’t ask any about my school or grade, they even don’t go to any of my back to school night, just because they don’t have time. One day, I was running around at the school with my friend. Then the teacher came up and asked ours to stop it. She said the one of our school rule is cannot run around at the school, need to use walk. Also, she asked me and my friend to buy a...

...Returning to School Alicia M. McGee ENG121: English Composition I (ABC1201G) Instructor: Allorah Wyman January 24, 2012 Returning to School There are so many reasons on why I returned to school that I don’t even know where to being. Or could it be the fact that I had a hard time when it came to graduating from high school and maybe I’m here to prove my family wrong. Maybe it my kids and wanting a better life for them then I had for myself. Or it could be the fact that I just want to be here. There are many reasons why I should be here. Returning to school was something that took a while for me to decide to do. Mainly because I said that after all I went through to leave high school that I wasn’t going back to school. I had to do night school, summer school, American school that’s where they mail you the work and you mail it back. And even went back to do a half semester the following year. So once I went through all that I said I was done with school. I was happy I did it, but it was all just a little much to be going through for a simple piece of paper. But after years of doing nothing and having a child I knew that I wanted to be something if not for me for her. Growing up I was looking for a role model and for some reason I just couldn’t find it. And then it felt like no time ever seem to be the right time and there was always a reason to put it off until the next time. Then having another child just made me come up with every other reason why I should do it...

...High School is an institution established to carry on a person’s education on the subject of Science, English and etc. beyond elementary and middle school. What High School has developed into and come to mean, however, vastly differs from this established purpose. High School is a period of emotional and mental development beyond Calculus or Biology, a place where the start of the rest of a person’s life begins. It is here where they are first challenged to participate and function in society on a more complex level than ever before. They must endure trials and tribulations and prepare themselves for the world ahead, including college and life after formal education. As a teacher, it would be my duty to shepherd these kids, to show them by...

... Charter School is intended to help at-danger learners who are not succeeding in the customary setting. Customary instruction is Traditional training, is known as government funded schools conventional/traditional (Hoxby, 2004) Does the school framework needs to change? Which is better, Alternative or Traditional Education? Is sanction school the better formula for what's to come for our youngsters or is traditional/conventional training the better course for our kids. Research have demonstrated that scholars who went to contract schools for a long time have indicated a change scholastically superior to state funded school understudy in math and proficiency (Fryer, 2012). Research takes a gander at sanction schools vs. state funded schools in a cluster of states, including Florida, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. Charter school scholars overshadow their standard state funded school associates. Students in New Jersey enlisted in urban sanction schools take in altogether all the more in both math and perusing contrasted with their conventional state funded school associates. More and more the weight is shifting more towards charter schools. The data is showing that it seems that students are really getting a better education in charter school system. Should parents consider taking their children to charter schools? This is a question that I hope will be answered during the essay? April Browne is a 3rd grade charter school teacher in a Newark charter school; this is from...

...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Monday, March 12, 2012 My Cousin Vinny: a story about legal education The Abnormal Use blog is celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the release of the movie My Cousin Vinny by publishing a series of comments and interviews and also by sponsoring a multi-blog discussion on the movie. Go here to get more information. When my students ask me to recommend movies, I give them a list I have prepared over the years in which I have organized the titles under certain main “themes.” No one is surprised to see My Cousin Vinny on the list, but some are surprised I have listed it under the theme of “legal education.” So, I thought I’d use my contribution to the Abnormal Use blog’s celebration to explain why. One reason I place My Cousin Vinny under the theme of legal education is that it provides so much material you can use in the classroom. For example, you can use the movie to discuss criminal procedure, courtroom decorum, professional responsibility, unethical behavior, the role of the judge in a trial, efficient cross-examination, the role of expert witnesses and effective trial advocacy. Go here, here and here for more on this. But the reference to legal education goes deeper. I think you can use the movie to discuss the most common topic of debate within legal education itself. Interestingly, however, in My Cousin Vinny, the issue is turned on its head. After Vinny’s girlfriend Mona Lisa bails him out for a second time after having been...

... Introduction In my opinion, personal responsibility is the main key in becoming successful. To achieve this you must hold yourself accountable for your own actions as well as decisions. John G. Rowland said, “I’m ashamed to be here today, and I accept full responsibility for my actions.” Mahony, Lender & Altimari. 2005). You need to take charge by practicing discipline as well as using time management skills. If you can incorporate these two things in daily life then you can easily incorporate them in becoming a successful college student. Personal Responsibility Finances play a major part in one’s life; I know it does for me. When I think about finances I think of bills and budgeting those bills. To budget my bills I use a calendar to help me keep track of which bill is due when. This has helped me so many times because I tend to stick my bills in a drawer and forget about them. If I write on my calendar all my bills then I can visually see what is needed to be paid next. Budgeting can be hard and I am still in the process of learning how to budget. It will take time and practice and I know that I will get the hang of it sooner or later. My family is also another major benefactor in my life. With going back to school I now have to manage my time between school and family. I have a three and a half year old son and he requires most of my time. He is not used to me being busy during the day and now that I am busy with school, he is not happy. A part...

...In this memo, I will discuss my progress in my report regarding ways to prevent bullying at Kennedy Elementary. The bullying in schools are the major reasons for the student’s bad educational progress. Bullying occurs all over the world, whether it is at an elementary school, a middle school, a high school, a college, or a place of employment. It not only occurs in Butte, Montana but all over the world. Joe Fontana (1999) says that bullying is a form of violence that is seen most often in schools and is rarely recognized by adults. Bullying has effects on everyone, which can be permanent. In Butte, I’ve noticed that bullying seems to occur more in the elementary schools. I say this because my son, a sixth grader, has been bullied at...

...actions have consequences and an individual needs to be comfortable with every decision that they make. A proper understanding of responsibility is a valuable tool when trying to achieve goals as a student. Each student needs to be personally responsible for their own success in a college setting. A student needs to show determination even though it may become easy to look for ways to not be accountable. The first step in understanding personal responsibility is knowing what you want to achieve and how you are going to get there. Many students view higher education as a necessary step in becoming successful in life. Student personal responsibility involves certain prescribed behaviors that lead to academic success and also influences self-evaluation (Singg 2001). Most new students see college as a way to better their lives yet lack the knowledge of what it takes to achieve academic success. This lack of understanding can often lead to failure. My inability to understand and adapt to these qualities led to me dropping out of school. My better understanding of personal responsibility was crucial when deciding to go back to school. The first step is to stop thinking about going back to school and start acting on those thoughts. Obtaining my degree will give me an opportunity to better my life. A plan needed to be made on what was required in order to earn my degree. Completing a bachelor’s degree in the next three years is my main focus. A sacrifice of time and...

...know I have more than my well being and safety at stake and failure is not an option. Going to school may not seem like a life or death situation to some people but to me it is just as serious. In the army there is a saying “train as you fight”. I use this saying as motivation as it applies to every aspect of my life including school. If I slack off in school how could I expect myself to do anything different when I get my degree and enter the civilian work force. When in school a person develops their working habits and routine, so if I want to be successful in my career then I need to work hard now. While in college there will be a lot riding on my shoulders and many people looking up to me. I have a wife and two children that look up to me and are expecting me to get my degree so that I can provide them with the life that they deserve. I will also have the ARMY looking over my shoulder to see how I am doing in school not only because they are playing for me to go to school but also because they expect me to be a leader and to set a standard for other soldiers to follow. To be successful in college I have to responsible for my own success or failure. The only person to blame if I shall fail is me, on the same note I am fully responsible for my own success and completion of my degree. In college there is no more free passes its 100% up to you and what you put into you r work. Each student is personally responsible for success or failure. While I attend school I will use...

...I have not taken many risks in my life, but coming back to school is going to be the risk that redesigns my whole life. I always knew that I was going to college right out of high school, graduate in four years, and have a great job once I graduated. Nothing has gone according to plan. I have changed majors, had hard times in life and in school, and had to take time away from school because of failures. This past year has really opened my eyes to what was holding me back and what I need to do to accomplish my goals. I say that coming back to school is going to be my biggest risk because I am pushing for whats next in life by setting my sights on a growing career, and I know that I can not move forward without this degree. This past year I was suspended from school. Though I was thankful to have a job to go to, I knew that this was not what I wanted out of life; living paycheck to paycheck. So coming back to school is what is going to launch me into a new dimension, but I do have to make some changes. The risk of me coming back to school and doing it wrong again is always in the back of my head. Wasting my time and my money is beating on my conscience. But you do not get anywhere in life with taking a risk. I have to know that my old way are not going to get me A’s. ...Relationship with College Success Beginning a relationship with college success and personal responsibility is essential (University of Phoenix, 2013, Goal-setting & Time Management). Having success throughout your college also reflects the responsibility you have to yourself. The academic skills and positive, mental attitude developed in school will equip you with the experience as well as provide tools for successful living. The relationship between these two attributes are one in the same. You can’t have one without the other. Personal Perspective My personal responsibilities are family, school and future. I have four beautiful boys that I have to take care of everyday. Making sure that they are clothed, fed and in good health is my responsibility as their mother. Children are not asked to be born, they are a blessing. I need to be able to provide them with what they need to help them grow. Because I am the sole provider for my children, I must take care of myself with proper nutrition and rest. If I can’t get what I need then I can’t give my kids with what they need. Now sometimes, they will ask for things that they want and it is my responsibility to get them. They will just have to work hard and...
