Record stores used to be a part major part in American Culture of Teens and young adults they would line up at midnight waiting for the midnight release of the new Beatles album. Record stores where ideas where shared from music to politics. But then the big chain stores selling Records for lower prices and ITunes started the digital downloads the record stores could not compete and store owners were forced to close up shop for good. But there still record stores out there and when you find one it is like a diamond in the coal. I arrived \ on a less then pleasant day the weather was cold and rainy so before I left the safety of my car I turned my collar up to face the cold and made a bee line to the store so fast it would but Usain Bolt to shame. When I walked in the store I was greeted by the smell of coffee and sound of The Rolling Stones song Monkey Man playing over the store speakers with the owner of the store john singing along to the song and throwing his arms up like a monkey. As soon as you walk into the store your face to face with a giant rack of used DVDs ranging from Driving Miss Daisy to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre I was immediately welcomed by john who sitting down in front of this cash register with a sign on it that read “No Personal...

To Live

...Weight Loss: Eat To Live - Not Live To Eat By Mary ShomonJanuary 7, 2004 Wendy Hearn has some thoughts about why we eat... "Do you find yourself eating food when you're not even hungry? I've noticed that others, myself included, often eat food without even stopping to assess whether we're hungry or not. I encourage you to get in touch with your body and eat only when you need to. This entails being aware of your body's needs and not eating food if you're not hungry.  When I speak to people who maintain a healthy weight level without any real effort, I find one of the keys for them is they only eat when they're hungry. If they're not hungry they don't eat. This group of people generally find it hard to understand how the rest of us can eat food if we're not hungry.  As most of you know, when we eat food when we're not hungry, this is usually being triggered by something else which is going on in our lives. One of the first steps to identifying these triggers and dealing with them is for you to be aware of the times when you're hungry and the times when you're not.  This will take some time and effort to start with, but as with any habit, it becomes easier over time. Eventually, you will unconsciously go through the process of determining when you're really hungry.  First, you need to start thinking consciously about your hunger levels. I would suggest that in your mind or on paper you create a ladder with 10 rungs and label each rung with a level of hunger, according...

When you have Type II Diabetes it is very important to match your carbohydrates. If you eat too many carbohydrates your blood glucose level will rise above a level your insulin can control. If you watch what you’re putting in your body you can be able to match the amount of insulin you take to control your blood glucose level to the carbohydrates you eat. If you’re not watching the carbohydrates while you have Type II diabetes it could lead to hyperglycemia or even worse ketoacidosis. If you get these diseases as well you will have to spend more money on medicine as well as having to be even stricter on your diet....

You Are What You Eat

...ENGL 111-A Essay 5 – Persuasion You Are What You Eat Did you know that there are twenty-one ingredients in that box of macaroni and cheese you are feeding your children? What is sodium tripolyphosphate? Can you pronounce it? Think about it, do you really know what you are feeding your children every day? Unfortunately, most of us do not. We all want to feed our families wholesome, nutritious meals, but in today’s busy world it seems almost impossible. Our grocery stores shelves are filled with food that is full of chemicals, pesticides, and refined sugars, but do not have much nutritional value. As a society we have got to start making smarter food choices. Obesity and diabetes have become an epidemic in this country due to the lack of proper nutrition. As working mothers, we have to get food on the table fast. Often, we have very little money to do it with so we buy what we can afford. This often means we end up feeding our family packaged and processed foods. Our children and our families are seeing the consequences of this in their health and weight. We need to stop thinking that it is too hard and too expensive to eat well, and get creative and persistent with teaching our children health eating habits while they are young. One half of school age children who are currently obese will still be obese when they become adults. (Serdula M. K.) Today, one out of every three Americans is considered to be obese. ...in your life and that you choose what to do. There are many different opinions about if free will is a real thing or is everything in your life predetermined by past events. Examples of these are determinism, libertarianism, and fatalism. Determinism as a whole is defined as believing that things that happen to you is directly affected by what happened to you in the past. There are different types of determinism and it can be split into two types; hard and soft. Hard determinism states that free will does not exist and that everything that happens in your life is predetermined by events in your past. Soft determinism says that you can both have free will about some things and that some things are predetermined. This is also known as compatibilism. An example of this is if you are walking down the street and someone points a gun at your head and says to give him your money. In this case, you do not seem to have a choice whether or not to give him the money. In the same scenario with a homeless man, you choose to give him the money because you want to help him. In both cases, you gave someone else the money but in the first, it was determined for you that you would have to give up the money to live while in the second case you choose to give up the money freely. If you have complete control over the situation then you get to choose what to do which is having free will. If there are outside forces that can be seen as your actions being determined for you. An alternate example...

Loosing Weight

...making sure that you aren't using muscles that allow you to cheat. It isn't about setting a new world record for repetitions and it isn't about getting through your assigned reps just so you can be done with them. If you do them wrong, there really isn't that much of a point to doing them at all. #2. Sets and reps Breaking your exercise routines into sets of repetitions will help you get more out of exercising than just trying to do as many as you can until you get tired. You should do sets of equal repetitions. Rest in between each set for about a minute, then continue on to the next set of reps. What this allows you do is to work your muscles in a more complete fashion than you otherwise would. #3. Weight and strength training A good way to help burn excess fat faster is through weight training. This works because by building more muscle, your body will require more energy to maintain your muscle mass. This means that as long as you don't also increase your calorie intake, your body will look elsewhere to get the calories that it needs. And that means that it will take the excess fat from you body and stomach area. So you should build muscle so as to raise your metabolism in order to lose weight and burn fat naturally. #4. Do your exercises slowly and with control Don't perform your stomach exercises quickly just to get through them. If you do each move slower and with full control you will achieve far better results. Even if doing them slower means that you have to do fewer...

Your eating may not be related to you emotional state. However you may avoid eating when you are upset or having trouble coping with your feelings. You may run from food rather than running to food to cope. * I am happy about my scores because I rather not eat with my emotions because I tend to get mad at myself a lot when I play sports and if I were to eat every time I got angry with myself… I would be HUGE!!! How can you improve your eating habits? If you live on campus, how can you improve your eating in the cafeteria? I can improve my eating habits by taking in more fruits and vegetables. Eating in the café has a big disadvantage because I see food that I don’t normally eat but its so tempting that I just want to eat it and its bad for me, so I can improve my eating habits in the café by not being so tempted to eat that bad stuff and lean more towards the healthy side like the salads and fruits. Do you eat when you are emotional? If so, what are some other activites you can do to change this habit? If not, what coping techniques do you use instead of eating? When I’m emotional I do not tend to eat, that is the last thing I want to do. I tend to cope my feelings with music or just thinking about other things to get my mind off of what just happened or what is happening in my...

Food Marketing

...Parents these days buy their kids food that is convenient for them not for their kids. They think “Let’s buy this, it’s a good for an anytime snack.” Most snacks aren’t like that, but CHEEZ-ITs are the opposite; they're a real snack. They have real cheese and use natural spices to make the flavor and coloring just right. Not only do they have natural flavoring, but they offer vitamins for healthy eating. Along with these great ingredients, CHEEZ-ITs are also baked not fried, which lets you enjoy all the ingredients put together without the extra fat added into it. The way the world works is that we buy processed food that has all these added preservatives that are supposed to make the food good. Sure they may make it look, taste, and smell good, but that doesn’t mean that they are good for our health. The truth is we don’t care about what we eat and how much of it we eat, only that it tastes good. We need to watch what we put into our bodies, no matter what it is. With CHEEZ-ITs, we can get our thiamin mononitrate (Vitamin B1), our small salt intake, and our dairy from the cheese using the skim milk. These ingredients aren’t used to substitute for the daily serving of milk, regular food intake with the right amount of sodium, or our daily dose of vitamins, but the makers of CHEEZ-ITs use these to reassure us that they are a healthy snack. Now if your...
