...Can you see what I'm talking about? Heather E Harper BCOM/275 May 7, 2012 Scott Romeo Can you see what I'm talking about? Demonstrative communication is nonverbal and unwritten communication through things like facial expressions, body language and tone of voice. Just like anything else in life, there are a number of positive aspects as well as negative aspects to this kind of communication. Communication as such can either be effective or ineffective and positive or negative for both the sender and the receiver. Successful communication is not only the sending of a message, but also the receiving of that message the way it was intended. The use of unspoken communication such as facial expressions allows the receiver of a message to form an opinion on a number of things. For example, if a speaker is excited, passionate, or happy about what they are speaking on, it will be apparent by the look on their face. If that speaker is tense and pacing back and forth with their hands in their pockets, it would appear that he or she was nervous or anxious. Even the speaker’s attire can be a form of unwritten nonverbal communication. Let’s say the speaker is a pastor or a preacher, and it is Sunday morning and he is preaching his sermon in a T-shirt, cut off jean shorts, and flip flops. Opinions will vary in the congregation. Ultimately the preacher’s attire sends a message to his congregation without one spoken word. It is nearly impossible to avoid using demonstrative...

As I was completing my work, the teacher called my name saying,”Chenelle pack your things you're going home.” When i was walking out the room I started to remember that it was my dad’s birthday. As I approached the front office, my father did not look so happy, then he said, “Look at your report card and tell me what you see. “Before I could get a word out i was grounded just like that. A few days had gone by and my weekend was dead. The night before school I called my friends to set up a meeting at lunch. It was 12:45pm that is the time for lunch. My friends and I were walking to the table that we sit at every day .They knew that something was wrong with me because I did not talk or eat my food. As lunch was about to be over I had spoken like a ghost coming out of nowhere I said,” I have something very important to tell you and if you don’t like it than we can no longer be friends.” All of them gathered around me like a pack of dogs eating food. I said, “The grades that I have now is not acceptable, so in that case I will not be going out to the movies or the mall any time soon, so I’m saying this in a nice way if you cannot support in my decisions than are friendship is over.” From that day on I realized that I had amazing friends that have my back and they will support me in...

...In “Our time”, John Edgar Wideman has responsibility of telling the story of the boy who went into prison. The boy is Wideman`s younger brother, Robby, who is a black sheep of the family. Wideman uses three voices tell his brother`s sad story to explain what caused Robby “went bad”. The three voices are his brother Robby, his mother and himself. Wideman has many purposes for telling the story of Robby. First of all he is trying to understand him. He tries to learn his terms. In other words tries to comprehend why his brother is very different. While he does, this he can also reflect and learn a lot about himself. Wideman has many struggles in accomplishing all of this. He is trying to tell the story of his brother from a neutral perspective. He believes if he only tells it from his point of view, he could not tell a true Robby’s story. It is very hard for him to hear his brother story without listening to himself. This struggle can be seen in this essay, “The hardest habit to break, since it was the habit of a lifetime, would be listening to Xu 2 myself listen to him. That habit would destroy any chance of seeing my brother on his terms; and seeing him in his terms, learning his terms, seemed the whole point of learning his story” (672) Because of this Wideman has to use different views to show the true story of his brother Robby includes...

...In the afternoon the students in the classroom get again in small group, this time they had an activity where they need it to finish a card for someone special since it was Valentine. Each student was called one at a time, while the student was waiting for his turn; he sat down on the carpet and grab a book to read. I did ask the student if he can please read the story to me “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See”, he was able to retell the story by looking at the picture. During this time I was able to hear him clearly when he spoke, through the course of the day I notice that many of the things that he was saying it was a little bit hard to understand, many times the other students restated what he was trying to say, or ask him several...

...(UPCAT) is just around the corner and you are surfing the Net, joining forums about THE test and looking for “special tips” for taking the examination, aren’t you? I see you. I cannot help but remember how chill I was on my exam day. It was not really because I was so confident that I knew everything the premier state university expected me to know. I think it was more because I did not even think I would make the cut. I did not get to attend any review class nor did I buy all the best and recommended UPCAT reviewers. As many UPCAT passers will tell you, it is not really about how much you have studied the summer before for the entrance exams but how much you have learned in school since Day 1. “UPCAT is not a day but a season. It started the day you realized you needed to work hard for your high school grades so it could help you ace the test. UPCAT … started when you began to hope to be an Iskolar ng Bayan,” says broadcast communication graduate Joseph Cataan. All you need for UPCAT are refreshers because, as they say, “you already know what you know.” I was also calm and cool about the whole thing because I was never pressured by my parents. On UPCAT day, my dad said, “Just do what you have to do.” And so I did. People will tell you that getting into UP is not the be-all and end-all but it pays to be assured that you did your part, from pre- to post-exam. Survival tips Here are a few tips from successful survivors of the UPCAT to get you on your way down that maroon brick...

...Colin Witherspoon What Do You See in The Mirror? Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and were proud of what you saw, just to step on the scale and feel like someone is playing a trick on you? Weight is a funny thing when you are looking at the aspect of being healthy and having a productive life. Being considered a healthy person has less to do with your weight on the scale and more to do with an accurate body fat percentage. Even people who exercise and look physically fit could be considered obese when it comes down to looking at the average weight/height chart. When looking at the weight/height chart also known as The Metropolitan Life Table you first need to know some history behind it. The table was created in 1943 by a company known as the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and was later revised in 1983 (Steven B. Halls, 2008). It was designed to determine which people would have the lowest death rate (Steven B. Halls, 2008). A huge glitch to this is it was made particularly for people within the 25-29 age group and for people who were considered average height for that time (Steven B. Halls, 2008). So to say if you are tall or really short this table was not designed for you (Steven B. Halls, 2008). The original table also specified that the person should have on 1” heels and their clothes should weight approximately 3 lbs., before any revisions were made (Steven B. Halls, 2008). When looking at weight one thing you need to take into...

But here’s what you have to understand: this is not your typical finance course that just deals with money. Over the years, I have learned that I can tell you everything you need to do with money, but I can’t make you take action. Clearly, something must be preventing you from doing the things you know you should do. The goal of this course is both to teach you what to do with money and to help you remove those obstacles. Money is the currency of life. It is a physical manifestation of who you are. You are the one who goes out and earns a paycheck. You are the one who decides to take that paycheck and spend it, save it, or invest it. If you don’t have all the money you want in your life right now, then I am going to ask you to go within to discover why you are doing without. So, then the question becomes, Who are you and what must you do to bring the money you need and want into your life? And that is what makes this course di erent from any other personal finance course that has ever been o ered. It deals with the who—meaning you—and not just the what of money. v A Note from Suze I hope that in general you feel powerful and in control of your life. But do you really feel powerful and in control when it comes to your money? If you are like most people, you do not. ...of Getting Hired Today Final Paper Amelia Hills Composition I CM107 May 1, 2013 With the economy in a sad state, many individuals are taking the opportunity to better their education for a better life. Therefore, when an individual either quits or is terminated from a job there are many expenses involved with hiring a new employee. What does it take to get a job today? It really is about whom you know; what you know helps too. Add onto that that you need to do extensive research on the company you will interview for and hope that they have done their own research on you such as call your references at least. But how far is a company willing to go to find out what kind of person you are before that initial interview? Some companies go as far as checking out your Facebook page, as well as your LinkedIn page, I don’t believe this is acceptable, nor do I think a potential employee should go to that length either. Have you ever heard the phrase it’s not about who you know, it’s about what you know? Well, today that is not always the case. Networking is very important when looking for that perfect fit job. You might ask, “What is networking?” Networking is a support system of information sharing and services (jobs) among individuals and groups having a common interest (dictionary.com). There are several ways of networking, some more common are over the internet and advertised or hidden market jobs (No One Will Hire Me). Advertised are just that, they are jobs found...

Second , add other regular activities, such as part-time jobs, commuting time, sports, and regular meetings. Third, include sleeping and eating. With the fixed activities accounted for, the remaining blank spaces on the uncluttered chart are free for use on a weekly or day-by-day basis. Such a schedule, on a 5x8 card, scotch-taped over your desk, or carried in your notebook, unclutters your mind, and more important, enables you to visualize the blank boxes as actual blocks of time into which you may fit necessary activities (see example below). ...I’m going to give you some of the reasons to me why discussions you have in class is different then having casual conversation with your friends. One is when you are in a class room u are talking to people you don’t know so it is more uncomfortable for the speaker. But when you are with your friends its more easier because you know them and you can really have conversations with them. Second you must know your facts about what you are talking about. Like if you’re in a class room you must go look at books and info so you know more about what you are doing. If you are with your friends you can tell them what you know and they are ok with just as much as you know about it without asking questions. Third when you are talking to class mates you must be loud enough for them to here you and you get marks for not showing good talking skills with them. When you are with your friends you don’t have to be loud or show them you have to have good talking, they don’t mind it. Those are some of my examples of differences of having discussions in class and having casual conversations with friends. These are three different ways you can demonstrate respect for your classmates in class discussions. First you can make sure that your eyes are on the person who is talking so they know you are showing them that you’re watching what they do. Also you don’t talk to others while someone is talking in the discussion or it is very disrespectful...

...2016 TUTORIAL BUSN7050 Corporate Accounting Tutorial Semester 1, 2016 About Tutorials …So you begin by being uncertain as to what the answer is.…The question of doubt and uncertainty is what is necessary to begin; for if you already know the answer there is no need to gather any evidence about it.…[A]nother way and a very important one that should not be neglected and that is very vital is to put together ideas to try to enforce a logical consistency among the various things that you know. It is a very valuable thing to try to connect this, what you know, with that, that you know, and try to find out if they are consistent. And the more activity in the direction of trying to put together ideas of different directions, the better it is. …Now we have found that this is of paramount importance in order to progress. We absolutely must leave room for doubt or there is no progress and there is no learning. There is no learning without having to pose a question. And a question requires doubt. Richard P. Feynman, Nobel Laureate Tutorials serve a variety of purposes. One purpose is to give you an opportunity to improve your understanding by completing the set questions. In addition, tutorial participation encourages the development of problem solving and critical thinking skills as well as oral communication skills and written communication skills (you are expected to prepare written responses to these set questions). ...Ariana Heard Bradley A. Waltman June 27, 2016 I'll Be Your Bestie Ten-Minute Topic: Write about something you did to fit into a group. What did you do? Were you forced to do it, or did you do it voluntarily? Did anyone help you? What was the outcome? Did completing this action give you what you had expected? I loved having ALL the attention on me, hanging out with the popular kids, being the best volleyball player and well known by everyone in school! I went to this grade school called Monroe located in MN from 1st to 8th grade. When 6th grade came around it was hard to keep friends because everyone I got close to moved, went to a different school, or we just grew apart. So I invested my time in after school activities, volleyball, and homework. I would always try to hang out with the popular group outside of school but they were always up to no good! Plus my step-dad would always talk my mother out of letting friends spend the night or even come over! Hence the group of friends I had. Was ONLY during school hours! During 7th and 8th grade I decided to change up somethings... The towns capacity was growing frequently. The school would get a herd of new students every week like the school was competing for students against other schools. But if you enroll in my school you would get free trip to the Stare Fair! Due to my school having so many new students my peers started to divide into two groups. Their was two cliques forming. The new kids versus the old kids...
