Exploring Race and Ethnicity
Minority groups are subordinated in terms of power and privilege to the majority, or dominant group. A minority is defined not by being outnumbered but by five characteristics: unequal treatment, distinguishing physical or cultural traits, involuntary membership, awareness of subordination, and ingroup marriage. Subordinate groups are classified in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, and gender. The social importance of race is derived from a process of racial formation; any biological significance is relatively unimportant to society. The theoretical perspectives of functionalism, conflict theory, and labeling offer insights into the sociology of intergroup relations. Immigration, annexation, and colonialism are processes that may create subordinate groups. Other processes such as extermination and expulsion may remove the presence of a subordinate group. Significant for racial and ethnic oppression in the United States

What Is Life

...Muyiwa Afolabi Do you have your life? Please think about this question, do you really have your life? I've heard statements like ‘get a life’ on many occasions said to people who appear to be different and unconventional especially in matters of socializing. Many also think the whole concept of life and living is about fun, leisure and enjoyment. When an individual is having a great time, you hear remarks like he's enjoying life, when an individual is conservative and somewhat antisocial we conclude he doesn't have a life. Hmmm. What is life? I believe life is a season or a duration when an individual is conscious, aware and involved in matters of this world. It is a period when an individual is expected to fulfil a purpose, serve a purpose, make something great happen, impact the world and influence things positively. I believe we all exist and are in this world to improve things and make better the condition of this earth. We are all here to make the world a better place; to create value, not destroy value, to make people happier, mankind better and humanity more purposeful. We are here to improve the world. This, though being a collective purpose and objective for all mankind, as individuals our place, roles and assignments vary. That's why we are created and gifted differently. Our gifts and talents are indicators of our place, our projects and assignments in this world. The ability to recognise your place, your gift, your sphere and your assignment makes you truly relevant...

Bussiness Use

...places where you want to start looking at when you want to use business rules instead of just the process logic that we might find within the business process management system. If you have, from an operational standpoint, things like complex routing rules and work selection, things that are fairly complex, rules about how a business operates, it might be becoming clear that you’re going to want to be considering business rules at this point in the process. Also, if you want to be able to change work while it’s inflight, in other words you want to change your process without changing the process map, you want to be able to change, for example, the routing within a particular process, that might be an indicator for having the business rule define which way you go out of one step instead of, for example, having only a predefined one-way-or-the-other type of environment. So there are a lot of things that apply for when business rules come into play from an operational standpoint. From a design standpoint, you want to be looking at business rules where the rules are changing more frequently within the process. If your business is in an industry where the rules change a lot, if you require highly agile processes, then definitely you want to be looking at bringing business rules to bear on this process as well. If you have an existing rules infrastructure or if you have some sort of mandate to separate the business rules from the logic, then definitely you want to be...

...to fix it. Supporting is allowing us to make our own choices, being there if things go wrong and supporting us in doing better next time. Fixing is forcing us to do it their way when our way doesn’t work. Supporting is nurturing. Fixing is anger when things get rough. Supporting is knowing things will get better. Supporting is seeing us exactly as we are. Fixing is seeing in them what we refuse to see in ourselves. I love and support you exactly as you are. Let go! When we believe we are losing control, we grab on tight. If we want to avoid pain, we hold on for dear life. When we are in fear of losing, looking bad or being abandoned, we tighten our grip. When our greatest fears come upon us, we clench our fist and teeth, close our eyes and hold on. We must learn how to let go. We have the capacity to live through any adversity if we let it go. We cannot stop time or destiny. Whatever is going to happen has already happened; we must learn how to see it through to the end. When we hold on, we prolong the pain. When we dig our feet in, we must be uprooted. When the time comes for growth and change, we must have the courage and faith to let go. Whatever leaves my life makes room for something better. If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else. ~ Marvin Gaye ~ Where do we get the idea that if a relationship or marriage ends, we have...

...great if you knew exactly what a hiring manager would be asking you in your next interview? While we unfortunately can't read minds, we'll give you the next best thing: a list of the 31 most commonly asked interview questions (and, of course, some expert advice on how to answer them). While we don't recommend having a canned response for every question (in fact, please don't), we do recommend spending some time getting comfortable with what you might be asked, what hiring managers are really looking for in your responses, and what it takes to show that you're the right man or woman for the job. Consider this your interview study guide. 1. Can you tell me a little about yourself? This question seems simple, so many people fail to prepare for it, but it's crucial. Here's the deal: Don't give your complete employment (or personal) history. Instead give a pitch—one that’s concise and compelling and that shows exactly why you’re the right fit for the job. Start off with the 2-3 specific accomplishments or experiences that you most want the interviewer to know about, then wrap up talking about how that prior experience has positioned you for this specific role. 2. How did you hear about the position? Another seemingly innocuous question, this is actually a perfect opportunity to stand out and show your passion for and connection to the company. For example, if you found out about the gig through a friend or professional contact, name drop that person, then share why you were...

...Shopping When we want to buy something, we usually go to a shop. There is no doubt that there are many kinds of shops in every town or city, but most of them have a food supermarket, a department store, men's and women's clothing stores, grocery, bakery and butchery. As for my family, my parents like to do shopping at big department stores and supermarkets. As a rule, they sell various goods under one roof and this is very convenient. A department store, for example, true to its name, is composed of many departments: readymade clothes, fabrics, shoes, sports goods, toys, china and glass, electric appliances, cosmetics, linen, curtains, cameras, records, etc. You can buy everything you like there. As far as I know there are also escalators in big stores which take customers to different floors. The things for sale are on the counters so that they can be easily seen. In the women's clothing department you can find beautiful dresses, costumes, blouses, skirts, coats, underwear and many other things. In the men's clothing department you can choose suits, trousers, overcoats, ties, etc. In the knitwear department one can buy sweaters, cardigans, short-sleeved and long-sleeved pullovers, woollen jackets. In the perfumery they sell face cream and powder, lipstick, lotions and shampoos. In a food supermarket we can also buy many different things at once: sausages, fish, sugar, macaroni, flour, cereals, tea. At the butcher's there is a wide choice of meat and poultry. At...

If you knew someone was eavesdropping on you, you would feel that your privacy was violated. The question of today's society is, do we have a morally acceptable level of privacy in this kind of society? In an IT-configured society, we should have some privacy to certain personal information and have our information gathered if and only if we give our consent. The importance of privacy, information gathering, and work are some focuses as to why privacy to certain personal information should be respected and retained if and only if given consent. When a person goes on to the internet they do not expect their information to be gathered and spread throughout the internet. Most people think that their privacy to personal information is important and that it should be respected. Shaw gave three aspects of our concern to privacy. “First, we want to control intimate or personal information about...
