The Zipper has been used all throughout the United States and the world since 1893. It has become a part of our everyday lives and has impacted our way of life. We have used the zipper on a multiple number of clothing and on objects. It will progress over the years making the zipper easier and more accessible in the future. The zipper has been part of our world for many years and will continue to be used in everyday life.
On August 19, 1893; Whitcomb Judson invented the zipper. At first he called it the “clasp locker”. Whitcomb Judson was from Chicago, Illinois. There he presented his invention at the Chicago World Fair. From there, he and Lewis Walker founded the Universal Fastener Company. In 1909 Judson died before his invention became a great hit. Gideon Sundback improved on Judson’s work. Sundback called it the “Hookless 2”. In 1913, Sundback improved the “Hookless 2” by putting more teeth onto the fabric. Due to the increase on teeth, the zipper became stronger and more efficient. Sundback sold the “Hookless 2” to the United States Army. From there in 1923, B.F. The actual definition of the zipper is; a device consisting of two flexible strips of metal or plastic with interlocking projections, closed or opened by pulling a slide along them, used to fasten garments, bags, and other items. Most people will or has use a zipper at one point in their life. For example, there are zippers on some women’s boots and there are zippers on some sweatshirts. There are zippers on other things too.
