Who Is A Good Leader In Lord Of The Flies

...earned not given. To be a good leader you need to show that you will and can take care of the people you are leading. Everyone wants a leader that can take care of them and any problems that may arise. In the book Lord of the Flies there are three candidates to be leader; Piggy, Ralph and Jack. To me, the boy that would make the best leader in the book is Ralph. He has the background to be a great leader and he puts everyone else above him. He remains confident thought-out the entire book, and looks out for the wellbeing of the other boys. Qualities of a good leader are qualities that you are born with. Ralph would have made a great leader for the boys because he didn’t think about just food. He thought about things that they really needed, like shelter and fresh water. He also has the background to be a great leader. His father was a naval officer, and he knows what the boys need to survive on the island. In my own personal experiences I would be most likely to follow someone who has the background for leading and someone that is willing to be a leader....

Who Was Julius Caesar A Good Leader

...Anyone can be a leader. You can find a leader within your friends, family, authorities, or even your peers. Throughout life you come across many leaders, but what makes a good leader? A good leader has tolerance, dominance, passion, respect, confidence, clarity, empathy, sympathy, and many other traits, but most of all, a good leader is honest, listens to his people, and takes charge. In Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, the story begins in Rome with the celebration of Julius Caesar’s victory over Pompey, one of his enemies. Although Caesar was considered an outstanding general by many, not everyone supported him, and some even took down celebration decorations. Cassius was among those who were disapproving of Caesar, and he even plotted to kill him. For the success of his plot, Cassius acted as though Caesar’s death would be in Rome’s best interest, but he needs credibility, which is why he reached out to Brutus, a beloved and patriotic...

...Joseph Stalin showed characteristics of a totalitarian leader because he took advantage of his people and the resources of the country. Joseph Stalin had a secret police force, Created labor camps and, killed innocent people to protect his power. Joseph Stalin took advantage of people and made a secret police force to spy on his people. The police force was called the NKVD. His secret police had informers everywhere . An informer could be anyone in Russia at the time even your best friend could be a informant. His spies would listen to people's conversations and made sure they were not plotting anything against him. Stalin used the secret police to create fear in his people. He wanted his people to live in fear so they would put up walls and not talk to people so there would be no chance of a revolution breaking out against his tyranny. I think this shows Stalin had totalitarian traits because he used a secret police force to constantly watch his people and keep them scared and uneasy. Leadership Qualities

...Qualities of A Good Leader Ledership Essay An efficient leader is defined as a person who is followed by the others. Besides that, a leader has to know about the human nature, and be able to direct people reducing the group's doubts about succeeding. Some people believe that a leader is born that way and there is no way, practicing or studying, to create a leader. They are wrong because inside of each and every one of us there is a leader waiting to be awake and holding on an opportunity to come out. A leader is capable of influencing and inspiring the people around him to voluntarily commit towards accomplishing a certain goal. There are different types of leadership people who specialize in trying to understand this important phenomenon. The only kind of leadership in which a person communicates true self are by way resonates with other people. This behavior is highly individual and situational for both the leader and follower and therefore there are a huge variety of ways in which effective leadership occurs. On top of that, when we think about the characteristic of a leader, we often think of leaders that are dynamic, which makes each of us to follow. We could take an example, such as Hitler.  He did not have the values that we should follow, but he had that inspiration for the country to follow.  If we also stop to think about the leaders today, we do not get the same vision of a leader that has a dynamism that is hard to resist, but rather a leader that has a good quality.  The...

Effective Leaders

...To Be Good Leaders? Remember the difference between a boss and a leader: A boss says, "Go!" a leader says, "Let's go!" - E.M. Kelly In order to answer the above question, we first need to define managers and leaders. Each of who have their roles defined. Then, we should compare the differences and similarities between the two, and determine if effective managers need to be good leaders. A manager is one who gets things done through other people, in order to achieve stated organizational objectives . Thus, an effective manager is one who efficiently and successfully can achieve the objectives of the organization. Managerial work can also be summarized as clarification of objects, planning, organizing, directing and controlling. ‘Effective Manager' can thus be defined in the terms of the quantity and quality of standards of performance, and the satisfaction and commitment of subordinates. Leadership is often linked with reference to one person leading. Leadership is a self-motivated and involves four components. First, to lead involves influencing others. Second, where there are leaders there are followers. Third, leaders seem to come to the forefront when there is a crisis or special problem. In other words, they often become visible when a ground-breaking response is needed. Fourth, leaders are people who have a clear idea of what they want to achieve and why. Thus, leaders are people who are able to think and act creatively in non-routine situations and who set out...

Leadership and Followership

...INTRODUCTION [pic] There is no leader without at least one follower. Yet the modern leadership industry, now a quarter-century old, is built on the proposition that leaders matter a great deal and followers hardly at all. Good leadership is the stuff of countless courses, workshops, books, and articles. Everyone wants to understand just what makes leaders tick—the charismatic ones, the retiring ones, and even the crooked ones. Good followership, by contrast, is the stuff of nearly nothing. Most of the limited research and writing on subordinates has tended to either explain their behavior in the context of leaders’ development rather than followers’ or mistakenly assume that followers are amorphous, all one and the same. As a result, we hardly notice, for example, that followers who tag along mindlessly are altogether different from those who are deeply devoted. In reality, the distinctions among followers in groups and organizations are every bit as consequential as those among leaders. This is particularly true in business: In an era of flatter, networked organizations and cross-cutting teams of knowledge workers, it’s not always obvious who exactly is following (or, for that matter, who exactly is leading) and how they are going about it. Reporting relationships are shifting, and new talent-management tools and approaches are constantly emerging. A confluence of changes—cultural and technological ones in particular—have influenced what subordinates want and how they...

Are Leaders Born or Made

...| “Are Good Leaders born, or can they be Made” | For decades researchers have been trying to find the answer to the question “Are good Leaders born, or can they be made?” However it is my belief that, it is a little of both, Leaders are naturally born and they can be made. Firstly, let us define who is a leader, Peter Guy Northouse – (2009) postulates that “a leader is any person who guides others towards a common goal, showing the way by example, thus creating an environment in which other team members feel actively involved in the entire process of goal achievement. A leader is not the boss of the team but instead, he/she is that person who is committed to carrying out the mission of the venture. He further defines leadership as” a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task” which in short would mean working through others to achieve goals or objectives . With these definitions, it would be safe to say that anyone whose accomplishment necessitates the sustenance of others can be a leader. The same is true of many who are presently working with and through others to achieve a common objective that they are indeed leaders, whether they consider themselves to be eccentric or catastrophic leaders. Mahatma Gandhi once said that, “We must live the change we want to see”. This quote brings new meaning as it embraces the fact that we are leaders of any change in our lives, therefore logically...

Importance of Leadership

... 2 Abstract What comes to mind when the words leader or leadership are heard? Usually a president, a teacher, a C.E.O, a work supervisor or a prime minister comes to mind. Well these are people who are considered to be leaders because they work to achieve a positive change for a particular organization or community. Leadership is the process in which a particular individual influences others to achieve an objective or a common goal. This paper will explain what the term leadership means, the key factors that make up a true leader and the impact as well as the importance that leadership has in our lives. LEADERSHIP 3 Leadership describes the influence certain individuals have on others to carry out a specific objective or goal. According to authors Susan Komives, Nance Lucas, and Timothy McMahon (2007); “leadership is a relational and ethical process of people together attempting to accomplish positive change” (p. 2). This practically means that leadership is mostly about the kind of relationships a person has with others. Personal awareness and personal development are key to learning leadership, which at the end it focuses on the development of relationships with others. A leader is not someone who just tells someone else what to do, or someone who makes up rules, a true leader is someone who develops a good relationship with a group of people, and eventually that...

Everyday Leaders

...the rare and precious human capitals. Without leaders to guide and shape decisions society would become stagnant. Within the arena of leadership there are good leaders, bad leaders, and effective leaders. All three coexist simultaneously in a world of followers. A good leader is one who possesses many qualities. First and most important a good leader is just. To be just is to possess the ability to recognize what’s fair, good, and honest. A good leader always sets a good example of integrity, morals, and will lead his followers in accordance with these qualities. In addition to being just a good leader must be a strong thinker. A strong thinker is able to think outside of the box. Thinking outside of the box means to approach decision making in an unconventional manner. One way a good leader must do  this is to suspend judgment. A good leader must not form opinions until he needs to after accounting for all possibilities. Opinions should not happen until the leader has heard all the sufficient facts needed to make a well-educated decision. This takes a strong mind because it is very easy for humans to form opinions without know all the facts of a given situation. This can be a big mistake for a leader because making decisions based off opinions fuel bad or incomplete information will prove disastrous for any decision maker. The next quality of a strong thinker is the ability to think without bounds or limits. A good leader must not only be able to think outside of the box...

Leadership

...What is the first picture that comes to mind when you hear the words “good leader?” Maybe you picture William Wallace, leading his band of Scottish rebels in a war where they are heavily outnumbered against the numbers and tyranny of England. Maybe you picture Michael Jordan, pumping his fist right after he knocks down the shot against Craig Ehlo in the 1989 playoffs. Or you might even possibly see Adolf Hitler, although what he stood for will always be atrocious, he did do an incredible job of getting others to follow him. So the question is: What makes a good leader? Susie Shellenberger, the 2010 recipient of the Reed Leadership Lifetime Achievement Award, would say, “A good leader is one who doesn’t compromise integrity or character when no one is looking. A good leader maintains the same high standards in private as seen in public.” Let’s unpack what she meant when she said this. First, a good leader doesn’t compromise integrity or character no matter what. Webster gives such definitions for character as “moral excellence and firmness,” and integrity as “the quality or state of being complete or undivided.” When you put these two together, the sum is a person who is firm in his convictions and who lives under those convictions no matter what the circumstances are. A good leader does not live a two-faced lie. As its definition states, to be a person of integrity means that you are complete or undivided. You are unwavering. You do not act differently around different...

Leadership vs Management

...Every company has leaders and managers, and sometimes they are the same person. Leaders are those who can motivate and inspire others to perform at their best to get the job done. Managers are those in charge who organize and make sure that things get done, not necessarily worry about popularity or unity within the group (Brown, 2010) (DuBrin, 2010). • Those put in a position of power over others, either a manager position or a leadership position must have the qualities that will benefit the company in those roles. • Leaders are those who work hard and perform positive results and in doing so are able to bring out the best in others around them. Leading by example is a key trait of a leader and not necessarily that of a manager in charge. • A manager is the key person is in a position of authority over others and they are the one who has the ability to get a task done and stay on schedule. Popularity with subordinates may not be the primary goal of finding a manger but one who is task and detail oriented. • Leaders may not always be good managers. Leaders tend to get the job done through a different approach than managers. Leaders evoke the feelings of determination and quality work in others which is not always accomplished under time constraints. The job gets done but in no set time. • Managers set goals and expectations for the group to get done and the group is expected to perform. This is where having a good leader under a good manager creates...

Leadership

...The Standard of a Good Leader From my experience in the military I have been lead by some of the most amazing Marines whom define the standard of a good leader. It was not their position of authority that made them good leaders, but rather the personal attributes they possessed and the principles they exhibited that made them impressionable and successful leaders. The combination of unique traits and guiding principles delineate what leadership is and how to measure the quality of a good leader, their leadership. A good leader exercises leadership principles by setting the example for others to emulate and by developing the individual leadership qualities of the people in their charge. To ensure these principles are achieved, it is essential for a leader to possess qualities such as knowledge, courage, honesty, judgment, resilience and passion. As a leader, there is no better way to impress upon others what you expect of them, than by making yourself the shining example of that expectation. Can you imagine having a leader who lacks expertise, but expects you to know your position inside and out? Who crumbles under pressure, but expects you to never fail? Who lies to cover for their mistakes, but holds you accountable for yours? Would you want to be like this leader? Most likely not, as the example they have set is hypocritical and does not inspire others in a positive way. The type of leaders who set the “do I say, not as I do” example are poor leaders and do not possess...
