...Who's Got the Monkey? In the article Management Time: Who's Got the Monkey, it is about how managers can take a structured approach to preventing problems from getting delegated upward. This article addresses three types of time: boss imposed time, system imposed time, and self imposed time. To me this article is stating that many managers feel overwhelmed and have too many "monkeys" on their backs. One main lesson that I learned from reading this article is that when managers take problems over from their employees, important issues get delayed and the organization as a whole suffers. In summary, the article is saying that you should arrange your time properly not taking all the monkeys alone and share or transfer to the right person who actually owns the monkey. A monkey in the context of this article can be defined as the next move after two individuals meet. Everyone has "monkeys" or problems. Most of my "monkeys" are going to be found at home. First "monkey" is to take out the trash on the assigned nights prior to the AM pickup. I am in charge of gathering and dividing all trash into the compost, recycle or trash bins. My second "monkey" is to be available to run errands or go to the store for my parents and/or grandparents. I have been in charge of doing this ever since both of my sisters started their own journeys. The final "monkey" is just being around to be available for help. Since both of my sisters have jobs and go to school, it is now my time to assist with...

...and/or other black market drug situations. This means that when one becomes involved with marijuana, the door is then open to much more dangerous drugs, such as heroin, cocaine, etc. In most cases, teenagers who recreationally use marijuana are lead into these drugs, drinking alcohol, and associating with crowds that can potentially harm them and create incredible problems in their lives. Another reason that this drug should be in no way acceptable in society is the undeniable increase in crime due to the market of marijuana. It is a common misconception that billions of dollars are thrown away each year on incarcerating people who are only guilty of possession of marijuana. While there are many people imprisoned each year who have drug charges, the majority of these offenders...

...Krista Van Wie Introduction Who should solemnly have the power to declare war? Should it really be the presidents decision and only his decision to declare war or should he have multiple decisions on the matter? In Rachel Maddows book Drift, we see how this big decision changes threw the decades and how it affects Congress, the president, and even the American people. In the end, who’s for it and who’s against it? America’s Founding to Vietnam When the war against Vietnam started, Lyndon B. Johnson did not call up the Guard of Reserves to fight. That was not a normal for the Reserves due to the fact that they had been called right away in every war in the past. Because of this, the Guard and Reserves were “the thing” to sign up for to avoid service. Americans were not prepared for this war with Vietnam since LBJ continually sent out troops to Vietnam to avoid sending out the Guard and Reserve. In the past, according to Maddow, “when the United States went to war, the entire United States went to war.” That wasn’t the case for Vietnam. LBJ kept the war as secretive as possible because he did not want to believe the United States was at war. He didn’t send out the Guard and Reserves to avoid Congress and the United States people freaking out. So he instead increased the draft size. Johnson, according to George A. Carver, “tried to fight the war on the cheap.” This is why this war was a few decades long tragedy. Post-Vietnam Change Post-war changes came the Total Force Policy...

...“Do Dog People and Cat People Differ in Terms of Dominance?” https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/canine-corner/201503/do-dog-people-and-cat-people-differ-in-terms-dominance Stanley Coren Ph.D., F.R.S.C. Published on Mar 18, 2015 Yinyin Zhu COM 231 June 3, 2015 In the article, “Do Dog People and Cat People Differ in Terms of Dominance?”, the author compared people preferring dog as their pet and people preferring cat as their pet. The author has focused on a study that tried to find the relation between people’s pet preference and their personality trait of social dominance, as in “social dominance orientation”, “interpersonal dominance”, “competitiveness”, and “narcissism”. The study has put an emphasis on the idea of “social dominance orientation”, which is a belief for a structured social relationship, based on the social rank or status, and believe that is appropriate to the society. The result of the study showed that dog people stay high on this category, which explained their preference of dogs as dogs are more submissive to them, “at least to the degree that they obey their commands”. Moreover, the level of competitiveness, or the desire to outperforming others, is also higher among dog owners than cat owners. However, the result didn’t show a decisive difference between dog people and cat people with regards to the tendency to have an aggressive interpersonal behavior, nor a strong feeling of self-importance over their pets or other people. The first...

...suitors the text says, “Odysseus scanned his house to see if any man still sulked alive.” (Homer, The Odyssey, Lines 406-407). Odysseus in a sense wants to see somebody he didn't kill or half alive so he can finish them off too. Achilles and Odysseus are quick to kill. A big thing that separates Achilles and Odysseus is the level of intelligence. Odysseus is much smarter. He is smarter strategically, theologically, and he’s a very smart leader. Odysseus is really good at lying and that’s what makes him a good leader. Achilles doesn’t really think through what he’s going to do before a battle, he just charges and plans on wearing out his opponent and then killing them. Achilles also isn’t one to lie. Athena really favors Odysseus. Athena tells Odysseus, “Always the same, your wary turn of mind. That’s why I can’t forsake you in your troubles.” (Lines 374/376). Athena tells Odysseus that she can’t forsake him because she likes how he’s intelligent in every aspect. Odysseus is a very intelligent guy as opposed to Achilles who’s not so much. ...

...Have you ever wondered if you are truly in control of your life? Or is someone else in charge? Or is it really your choice? It might be God who’s running the show, or us maybe something else entirely. No one will probably never know or at least not for a long time. But in the tragic play by Sophocles, Oedipus Rex, there is a clear indication that Oedipus, the main protagonist, wasn’t truly in control of his own life at least not fully. Unfortunately for him he was prophesied to marry his mother and kill his father. He had risen to the top of the top, killing the Sphinx and becoming the king of Thebes. In a twisted turn of events a plague coming on the city forced him to search for the murderer of the previous king Laius. Unwittingly in his search for the murderer he learned...

...1280 – 23 Negative Review – Dead Poets Society The movie centers on a group of gifted young students who are being held down by a repressive school system. They get classes from an inspirational teacher, who opens their eyes to the beauty of the world and their true potential. But, although the people in charge try to put them down, in the end they all seemingly find who they are – a prevalent plot amongst many movies. The only thing that makes this one different is because it ends with one of the boys committing suicide and the teacher getting fired. So much for the all's-well-that-ends-well moment at the end that is always the high point of movies like this. They do stand on their desks, though. So there's that. The teacher still gets fired, however. This movie falls easily into one of my least favorite movie genres, “the let's teach upper class white kids some creativity because they have it so hard in life” genre. Here, a bunch of uncreative, sheepish rich white kids attend a prestigious preparatory academy and are content to do what the administration and their parents tell them. There's Neil Perry whose dad wants him to become a doctor. There's Tom Anderson, who's stuck in an intellectual shell. All of them are under the thumb of the school's headmaster, Mr. Nolan. Then one day, John Keating, a new teacher, walks in and teaches them creative thinking through the power of stand-up comedy. So, instead of studying to become a doctor, Neil tries his hand at acting. Tom...

...While I was reading the “Reading Material 1 Studying My Own Culture as Feminist Practice” by Eunshil Kim, I was also able to reflect on my own experience with my grandmother. In her text, she mentioned that her grandmother reasoned her by saying, “Everyone looks down at a woman who lives alone without a dependable man. If you do not give birth to at least one child, you will not have anyone to trust and you will eventually become lonely…” In fact, my grandmother also thinks in the same way, but because I’m still a student, these kind of topics aren’t taken too seriously. However, at the same time when we are mentioning about other family members it’s clear to see how they think about unmarried females as a minority. In a way it’s considered...

...If we were to have you list the worldwide smartphone market share leaders, we bet nearly everyone would put Samsung at #1 and Apple at #2. But who's #3? LG? HTC? Sony? The correct answer would be "None of the above." Gartner recently released their smartphone market share numbers for Q3 2014, and the #3 spot is pretty much a three-way tie. Right behind the two leaders are a trio of Chinese companies: Huawei, Xiaomi, and Lenovo. The actual market share numbers for Q3 2014 break down to Samsung at 24.4 percent, Apple at 12.7 percent, Huawei at 5.3 percent, Xiaomi at 5.2 percent, and Lenovo at five percent. At this time last year, Gartner reported Xiaomi was only at 1.5 percent market share, so the company has experienced a 336 percent jump. The big loser of the group was Samsung, which dropped 7.7 percent from last year. The company is still coming back down to earth after a record 2013, and it expected a 60 percent profit drop in Q3. What's amazing about Xiaomi is that hit Top 5 market share while only being in a handful of markets. The company's primary market is its home country of China, and it also does business in Malaysia, Singapore, and India.
