What is PPE stand for? Why do we need to wear PPE in lab? Who enforces wearing it? Let's start with what PPE stands for. PPE stands for Personal Protective Equipment. Personal protective equipment is equipment like helmets, clothing, goggles, and other equipment. The main reason is to keep you protected from injury or fatality that may occur. PPE is very important in order to be safe in lab. Osha enforces wearing PPE. Osha stands for Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They have a 10 hour training course which you can take online or by a teacher or a presentation. You must take the test in at least 10 hours or more or you fail. For example if you have nine and a half hours it does not count. In my opinion it is a fairly easy course.

 * Prebrief- Discuss the following ;
 o Discuss common/frequent community diseases and why/how they are transmittable. o Discuss triage process and disaster planning. Triage is identifying and separating individuals quickly according to injury severity and treatment needed. Disaster triage focuses on sorting the greatest number of people as fast as possible. Triage performed at the site and again at the treatment area is very different from triage that is routinely conducted in the emergency department. The focus of disaster triage is to do as little as possible, for the greatest number, in the shortest time. One triage system that is used by first responders is START. START stands for “simple triage and rapid treatment.” This system describes what to do when first arriving at a multiple casualty or mass casualty incident. Disaster triage of an injured person should occur in less than 1 minute. This system also describes how to use people with minor injuries to help. As a decision is made regarding the status of an individual, the person is labeled with a colored triage tag. Green on the triage tag is for the walking wounded or those with minor injuries (e...

Army Motorcycle Safety Class

...U.S. ARMY MOTORCYCLE SAFETY GUIDE Motorcycling has become increasingly popular in the Army with 33,425 motorcycles currently registered on Army installations. One result is that motorcycle accident rates have increased proportionately. As the accident rate goes up, leaders must find ways to improve motorcycle safety within the Army. The Chief of Staff, Army, now requires the Six Point Program developed by the Combat Readiness Center be used by all Army units. Like any sport, motorcycling can be very dangerous. Although we cannot totally prevent motorcycle accidents, through proper training and preparation we can reduce them. Therefore, our actions can make riding motorcycles fun rather than fatal. We must first ask some pertinent questions if we truly desire to improve Army motorcycle safety. Some basic questions are: ♦ How safe is motorcycling? ♦ How does it compare to driving an automobile? ♦ Are there any special precautions to be observed? ♦ What are the causes of crashes, and how can crashes be reduced? I. BACKGROUND: The United States Department of Transportation, Division of Highway Safety, offered the following information on motorcycles in DOT HS 807 709. “There are over 4 million motorcycles registered in the United States. The popularity of this mode of transportation is attributed to the low initial cost of a motorcycle, its use as a pleasure vehicle and, for some models, the good fuel efficiency. Motorcycle fatalities represent approximately...

...which they are working at. Their major job duties are to identify and assess hazards, put safety plans in place, and determine how to avoid, reduce, or eliminate the risks altogether. That is why in the 1970’s the “Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) established three permanent federal agencies to help with accessing such issues. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to set and enforce standards, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to conduct research on workplace hazards, and the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC) to referee any workplace challenges” (Matthews, P.2011). These three departments were established to set guidelines by which companies both large and small, could follow to minimize the potential risks within the workplace. At my place of employment, Generator Services, we do have a Risk Assessment Plan that observes a safe and healthy work environment for employees, managers, contractors, and visitors. We are a distributor of generators ranging in size from 5 kW (kilowatt) to 2000 kW (kilowatt) which is a mega size generator, that is big enough to run a hospital. ...Question 1: Based upon your knowledge of health and safety matters and your actual observations of operations that are similar to theirs, make a list of the potential hazardous conditions employees and others face at LearnInMotion.com. What should they do to reduce the potential severity of the top five hazards? Answer: I would suggest that LearnInMotion develop a Safety and Health Program that covers employees and employer. Begin by conducting a safety and health survey. The survey should cover the use and maintenance of Equipment, Work Practices, and OSHA Standards. The five top hazards that I can identify are: 1. Exposed wires and cables around the workstations and various areas are hazardous, they could potentially cause electrical fires, and damage to both employees and property. 2. Improper practices when servicing or installing equipment for the network, potentially are very damaging to those doing the servicing and the equipment being serviced. 3. The length of time that employees spend in front of computer screens and typing on the keyboards could result in eyestrain, back-strain and carpel tunnel syndrome 4. Lack of a safety program that covers employees and vendors from workplace hazards, what to do when they occur, and how to avoid them. 5. Situations such as the time that the employees spend working daily and the way that the demands of that is related to work stress and burnout.
