The Battle Is for Your Future

...behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.” Genesis 37:5-8 Joseph’s brothers already hated him because he was the favorite son of their father. But once Joseph began to talk about his dreams, once he began to talk about his future, their hatred for him increased and they began to question him by asking him “Shalt you indeed reign over us? Shall you indeed have dominion over us?” Josephs brothers were not so concerned about who he was, as a seventeen year old dreamer. Their concern was over who he was going to become. They were not afraid of his present, they were afraid of his future. And they wanted to stop him from becoming who God said he would become and going where God said he would go. They wanted to stop him from entering into his destiny. If there is anything Satan desires to do today it is to keep you from entering into your destiny. He wants to keep you from your future! Satan does not care if you live in your past. It is not even your present that is Satan’s greatest fear, it is your future. He does not want you to have what God said you would have, do what God said you would do, go where God said you would go and become who God said you would become. He wants to keep you from your destiny. He wants to stop you from your future. Everything that the Body...

Analysis Of Scripture And Truth

...bible is a book made up of undisputable truths. God is truth and the truth comes from God. From the very beginning of his book, Alister McGrath introduces the bible and establishes its authority. From the reading, we can conclude that it is a universal truth that God is the author of sacred scripture” (McGrath, xxiii). McGrath writes that the Bible is inspired by God and He himself placed scripture as we know it in the minds of those who wrote it. 2 Timothy 3:16 says that all scripture is given by inspiration of God. Because it was God who, by proxy, wrote scripture, we can believe in the purity and accuracy of His words. Therefore, if one questions the bible we are questioning God....

The Maker and His Masterpiece

...and the background of how God intended to create the earth and how He created us to be rulers. Knowing why God did what He did makes the worldly sense of creation easier to understand and also easier to know that to Him, we were perfect. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth,” Genesis 1:1 states that God created the heaven and the earth. With that, everything God made was how he wanted it be. Therefore, there are no faults in His creation. Creation to Him was like painting a beautiful picture that symbolized his love and blessing of the world. Within the world, God first created wisdom. Wisdom was created to know of the world while the world was being created in the image and standard of God. Now with the blessings God was giving the earth and showing wisdom the knowledge to know everything, God blessed everything. He blessed the birds in the sky and blessed the fish in the sea. In Genesis, He is satisfied with everything that he has made. In each little place God made, He thought was good. He made this breath-taking garden but did not have anyone to look after this masterpiece. That is when man was created. God made man a little differently than He made the earth and everything else. God made man in his own image, intended man to become rulers, and to protect the world given to them by the Father. God made man intellectual and gave him wisdom. The man that was created was Adam and with this wisdom, he named everything in the garden. God gave him Adam his first...

The Holaucost

... Corrie Ten Boom’s “The Hiding Place”, and Eli Wiesel’s “Night”, it is clear that both documents present differing perspectives on the theme of providence. While both Jack and Corrie realize that both the good and bad times are in God’s hands, Eli doubts God’s existence in the bad times, and believes the desirable times arise from fate or chance. I. Introduction: (maybe use the Heidelberg Catechism Lord’s Day 10 about providence) II. How Providence is viewed when things go well. (During the favourable times, Jack Overduin and Corrie Ten Boom thank God for His blessings and care over them while Eli believes he is just getting lucky.) A. “Faith and Victory in Dachau” 1. Serpent Handling as a Meaningful Practice

...they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (Mark 16:17-18) Other Christians dismiss these practices by saying the passage is not to be taken literally. They consider the people following all of the signs mentioned by Mark as foolish, and claim it only leads to the premature deaths of the worshippers. However, this view does not take any sort of phenomenological approach. It does not attempt to interpret why the people worship in this way, nor what it means for them to worship in this way. This view only attempts to refute the practice of handling serpents altogether because of the potential risk of death that accompanies it. Therefore, it is necessary to interpret their actions from a less biased approach, in order to be more encompassing of a practice that is not always fully understood. It is my belief that the people participating in these serpent handling rituals know the element of danger that exists, but that the purpose, reaffirming their connection to God, is greater than the risk to their individual lives or deaths. The experience of handling a serpent has several emotional themes that people report feeling that are important for understanding why these churches feel compelled to include serpents in their worship. I’ve included interviews with religious snake handlers conducted by Ralph W. Hood Jr. and W. Paul Williamson for their book, Them That Believe, to give a first hand account...

Headcovering for Women

...is God. Verse 4- Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. Verse 5- But, every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as f her head were shaved (shorn) Verse – for if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But, if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn, or shaved, let her be covered. Verse7- For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God. Verses 8-9- For man is not from woman, but woman from man; nor was man created for the woman, but woman for man. Verse 10- For this reason, the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. Paul taught that Christian women should wear a covering on the head. This was based on his understanding of Genesis chapter 3. The headship of man over the woman is established in verse 16 of the chapter, which reads, “Unto the woman He said,’ I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception. In sorrow thou shalt bring forth children, and thy desire shall be for thy husband, and he shall rule over thee”. The veiled headcovering in the day of the Apostle Paul was not simply a demonstration of a woman’s modesty, as many suggest. It is an acknowledgement of a correct understanding of God’s creative order. This does not mean that a woman is of lesser importance than her husband. The Bible says in several places that in Christ all are equal. The statement that God is the...

Pastor as Theologian in the Wesleyan Spirit

...Pastor as Theologian in the Wesleyan Spirit Student: Ken Miller Part #1 Simply stated, theology is the study of God. But, it’s much more than that. It’s how God reveals himself to us through divine revelation. To begin our understanding of what theology is, we must examine the deeper question of why theology is. We must consider the purpose of theology…. the why and the how it is done. Theology can easily be viewed as a discipline with many facets. It is viewed in many ways. These are not necessarily to be considered as “stand alone” explanations, because they compliment each other. Five facets of theology are: explaining reality (often times looked upon as much more than an explanation of how things work, but a view of their place in God’s plan), systematization of Christian doctrine ( the practice of presenting Christian doctrine as an ordered or coherent whole), defending the faith and as a bridge for nonbelievers (this “apologetic theology” strives to help us refute the argument of those atheists who state that it’s not reasonable to believe in God), a critique of the life and proclamation of the church (an evaluation of the church and its teachings - often a cross check to evaluate if our sermons, lesson and writings are true to the gospel), and also contemplation (seeking a deeper understanding and intellectual appreciation). Theology and philosophy frequently are at times confused by those not actively engaged in either of the two disciplines. The...

The Origin of Sin

... soldiers, judges, and prisons. Every car is equipped with locks on the doors. Homes are built so that doors and windows can be locked. All the evidence points to the unmistakable fact that we live in a world that has been spoiled and polluted and defiled by SIN. Where and when did sin ORIGINATE (see Chapter 1 for the meaning of the words "origin" and "originate")? Where did sin first begin? When did sin first begin? When did sin first begin on planet earth?  Who was the first sinner? Was there ever a time when there was no sin? Today God’s sinful creatures (men and angels) are at war with God. They rebel against God, disobey God, dishonor God, and turn aside from God’s ways. Was there ever a time when God’s creatures were in perfect HARMONY with God, and, enjoying perfect FELLOWSHIP with Him? How did sin first originate? Where did it all begin?  Complete the following sentence by circling the correct answer: SIN FIRST BEGAN . . . a. With Eve who ate the forbidden fruit. b. With Adam who ate the forbidden fruit. c. With Satan who deceived Eve in the garden of Eden. d. With Cain, who murdered his brother Abel. The correct answer is neither a, b, c, nor d!  Sin began before any of these events took place. The origin of sin took place even before Adam and Eve were created (Genesis. 1:26-27). The beginning of sin took place prior to the creation of the heaven and earth (Genesis 1:1). Remember that before Adam sinned, there was already a sinful creature who was...

Dialogue Between Rabbi and Athiest

...like to welcome you to town. What is your name? What brings you to this lovely town in Ukraine? Radislav: Nice to meet you Rabbi and good morning to you as well. My name is Radislav Venchkin. I just emigrated here from Poland. I was looking for a fresh start so I’m here trying the town out and trying to get a feel for the town and its culture. Rabbi: Radislav, you made an excellent choice. This town is a diverse town with a tight knit community. There is a close relationship between everyone in town even though it looks as if everyone is all over the place. I’m sure you will find it quite nice here. Radislav: Well Rabbi, I would love to hear more in detail about the community and what it has to offer. May I speak with you in a more formal setting? Rabbi: It would be my pleasure Radislav. I happen to be on my way to Temple in the center of town. I have scheduled an emergency prayer service for my congregation. With all the bad things happening in the world; hurricanes, tsunamis, terrorist attacks, wars, disease outbreaks and so on, many people are in the “dumps” so to speak. I feel that my congregation needs a time to come together and pray for the ones affected, and to pray for their own self-worth. I myself am directlyaffected. My son has died of cancer and my daughter is a paraplegic. I myself too have it very hard on myself. Would you like to...

Why the Cross

...THE CROSS!!! WHAT? WHY? HOW? ARE YOU? By: Paul A. Lundgrin Contents 1. What happened to Jesus Christ on the Cross? 2. Why did the cross of Christ have to happen? 3. How does the Cross of Christ affect you and me? 4. Are you receiving the Seal of God or the Mark of the Beast? INTRODUCTION Have you ever wondered about what really happened to Jesus on the Cross, why it happened and how that affects you? If nothing of consequence happened there that day, then it was just another atrocity of mankind against mankind. But what if something more than that took place? You owe it to yourself to at least hear what the Bible says happened and then you can decide whether it makes sense and whether it matters to you. In this reading you will be challenged with many questions. This pamphlet will not answer all of the questions, but hopefully it will introduce you to vital questions that need to be asked and help you to begin finding the answers. All Scripture in bold lettering is from the New King James Version Bible. Chapter 1 WHAT HAPPENED TO JESUS CHRIST ON THE CROSS? “Crucifixion is an ancient method of execution, whereby the condemned person is tied or nailed to a large wooden cross (of various shapes) and left to hang until dead. It was in use particularly among the Persians, Seleucids, Carthaginians, and Romans from about the 6th century BC to the 4th century AD, when in the year 337 Emperor Constantine...

Ruth

...10MAR13 NJBC PM Intro & Welcome: Joke: Overview: This was a true event that happened in history, but it also presents the way of salvation to us today in simple explantion. • In chapter one, we see Ruth deciding to follow Naomi and to adopt Naomi's people as her people and Naomi's God as her God. "Where You Shall Go, I Shall Go, Your God shall be my God" • In chapter two, we see Ruth working and serving. It's a picture of our role as believers in Christ, and God's providence to his believers though a savior. • In chapter three, we see Boaz marrying Ruth and saving her from her suffering, and it's a beautiful picture of how Christ rescues His people from sin. Boaz, from Bethlehem, is often referred to as "the kinsman redeemer". • In chapter four, we see Ruth enjoying a bountiful reward and inheritance that she didn't earn. It was given to her by grace. Today, we are looking at Chpater 2. This is a beautiful love story between a man and a woman. . … and between a God and His people. Ruth Chapter 2 Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side named Boaz. He was a prominent man of noble character from Elimelech’s family. 2 Ruth the Moabitess asked Naomi, “Will you let me go into the fields and gather fallen grain behind someone who allows me to?” Naomi answered her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So Ruth left and entered the field to gather grain behind the harvesters. She happened to be in the portion of land belonging to Boaz, who was from Elimelech’s family. 4...
