When I was inspired to come back to college Returning to school for me at this point of time in my life is very important. I have quite a few things I want to accomplish in life, and one definite thing is receiving my degree in the Criminal Justice. The point in my life when I came to this conclusion, I was at work doing yet doing another double. I had just gotten paid and my check wasn’t enough to pay all my bills I had that were due. I couldn’t understand why I still fell short. I had picked up all the overtime I was allowed per pay period and it still wasn’t enough to cover all my bills. I knew it was time for a change in my life. I then enrolled in Schenectady Community College. I signed up to get my degree in Criminal Justice. My first semester went great I was so proud of myself. Second semester I changed degrees and switched to get my degree in Chemical Abuse Counseling. After taking my second semester I realized Chemical Abuse was not for me so I switched back to Criminal Justice. I’m now in my third semester and look forward to completing Criminal Justice and obtaining my degree when I’m done taking all the required classes needed. I’m aware with me switching degrees it set me back a little but I’m in no rush and know I have a long road ahead. Hopefully the courses in chemical abuse I took can count towards my criminal justice degree. I currently work for adults with disabilities. I have been at this job for twelve years and I’m basically just getting by. I love what I do but I have to do what’s good for me and my family. Therefore, my first reason to receiving my degree is definitely to make more money. I do not want to be stuck in this same position that I have been at in years to come. My current job is definitely challenging but I love what I do but however need a change. Please understand I am glad to

Why I Came To College

...I came to college because I wanted to get away from home. I grew up in a small town and hated every second of it. Going to a college that is two and a half hours from my hometown, and is located in a city with a population of over seventy-thousand guaranteed that I would not have to deal with all of the small town gossip as I did back home. Another reason I came is that I want to graduate. I want to be able to get a college degree and move to a city and get a good job. I know that the key to getting a good job is to have a college degree. I consider graduating college a significant achievement, something that will help me the rest of my life. Never will I have to look back on my decision to come here and question it. “Because stating college...

The Principles of Economics

...Dr. Zomorrodian | Assignment I | Principles of Economics | | Charles Fitch | 5/6/2011 | | I want to discuss and gives some examples and graphs on price discrimination strategies, price ceiling and what happens when the government regulates prices to give them a price ceiling to protect the consumer. I also want to discuss a perfect competitive market and the short and long term effects if demand rises or falls, also, why some long-run average curves are so steep. Lastly, I will explain the rationale and implications of the new guidelines used by DOJ and FTC for evaluating mergers. Problem 1. Sub shop In my sub shop, called Subtown, after some research I have found that with the pricing structure that is currently in place it has not attracted as many college students as I believe we could serve. The average student at the nearby college eats out three to four times a week for lunch and close to five times a week for dinner with the average meal being nine to twelve dollars. The total population of the nearby college is about twelve hundred students. Since the demand for fast food for lunch and dinner for college students is relatively elastic because there is already seven other fast food establishments in the area that are in close proximity to the college as well. One of those is another sub shop, one is a sandwich shop, and there are three burger places a Chinese food place and a taco place. None of these establishments offer a price discrimination strategy...

500 Word Essay For College

...College Essay Most college scholarships ask you to write a 500+ word essay, which isn’t that bad, but what is the reason behind it? Do most people that require an essay ever read them? Seriously, who has time to read a 1000+ word essay and chose from the best. Personally, that doesn’t seem to be fair because most people have trouble writing a paragraph, and then we are expected to write a huge essay telling about something in our life or respond to a weird question with a topic that most people won’t even think about. With topics such as, “Explain how your life changed with a death of a parent,”or “How would college affect your career,” or even “Why I deserve this scholarship.” Well, I’m going to explain everything I possibly can. The death of any parent would make anyone change, because no one is the same; we are all unique. With my dad’s death I didn’t know how to act for the longest time, and I still don’t; I say this because the day my father died, the doctor called all of my family back where he lay, hooked up to life support, lifeless. Just looking at his body, I didn't feel anything; however, I looked at the situation as is he wasn’t really dead because I was 12 and didn’t know...

College Admissions Essay: Don T Give Up

...Don’t Give Up I must say, I live a pretty sheltered life, with no wants or needs. I have a roof over my head, all the food I can eat, a loving family, and a good school. Yes, it sounds like I’m a spoiled child. Although I’d like to think I’m not, I’m slowly coming to the terms that maybe I AM spoiled. I don’t have any major life changes nor anything really special, and this prompt made me think about who was my role model, and/or the best advice I’ve gotten. I don’t have a sports or celebrity that I look up to, and the people that I actually know about are all scientists, so that didn’t really help. But when I thought about who had an impact on my life, I came to a realization. I didn’t need to try at math (at my old school, not CHS) and it was all due to one person, my mom. She’s a major role model to me, always making me push to my full potential. She made me practice math one grade ahead, which I hate. Originally, I thought that my mom was just doing it for no reason, but later when I grew older I realized that she was doing what was best for me. All this prep actually had a purpose later, which was the SAT for college....

Rape In College

...to our attention within the last few decades. Since going to college, I have realized one of the biggest social issues and index offenses surrounding me…rape. The definition of rape is unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against the will usually of a female or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception. It is charged as a criminal sexual conduct in the first degree. Rape occurs when consent is not given and physical force is possibly used,...

Going To College Research Paper

...meanings of importance. Before I would put school first over my job, recently this is not the point. I’ve been putting my job first lately and falling behind in class. I believe that I’m making a huge mistake. I’m not always going to be working at Michael Kors. Eventually I will have to move on, I mean that’s why I’m at school. People who go to college are the people that are trying to better themselves and/or trying to have better opportunities. School to me was not as important to me as how it is now. I honestly didn’t want to attend college. In my head I thought I would be better without it. In my head I thought I’d find a good job and probably stay there for the rest of my life. I was completely wrong. I thought things differently before than I do now. The only reason I enrolled into college at first was because my parents really wanted me to go to college and better myself and have opportunities that they did not have. I never spoke to them about me not wanting to go to college and I didn’t want to disappoint them. So I gave it a shot, but I also got my first job. The only reason that I think that I’m putting my job first is because I think that I will get a management position. I know I can do it, but then again I don’t want to give it all my focus because school is more important....

Ed Psych Paper 1

...The transition to college is an exciting time in one’s life. The greatest appeal is the independence college brings, but it is also the greatest challenge. Academically and socially college is much more demanding than high school and to succeed students need to have the self-motivation and will power to find the balance between work and play. To manage my transition to college I had to use my cognitive, emotional, and social competencies attained during youth to thrive in this new environment. My mother has had a huge influence on my success in college. She helped me develop study habits and a strong work ethic in my younger years; I can attribute many of my cognitive strengths to her involvement in my academic life. During my youth she taught me the value of effort and accuracy, rewarding me when I correctly and efficiently completed assigned work. I see now that she was employing a form of operant conditioning, where, if I completed my homework early enough and to her satisfaction, I was able to play board games, socialize with my friends and sisters, or watch TV if I so choose. If not, then I had to forgo these activities. Major theorists such as Edward Thorndike, John Watson, and B. F. Skinner were of the belief that learning was the result of consequences (Huitt & Hummel, 1997). This is why operant conditioning was so successful for me in elementary and high school and why I continue to use it in college. Only when I finish my course work do I allow myself to socialize...

My Nana, the Lawyer

...Maham Choudhry 15110160 My Nana, the Lawyer He asks me my name. I tell him. It’s not as if he forgets, it is just that he never bothered to remember. Committing the names of his nine children’s offspring is understandably a tedious task. “Tell me about Sirhind, nana,” I ask. He smiles, a maze of crow’s feet forming at the edge of his cataract-inflicted eyes. “I went there last night.” My nana’s ‘dreams’ take him to Sirhind Shareef, a place he calls home. Sirhind (the popular name of Fatehgarh Sahib), where there is a shrine of Shaikh Ahmad Mujaddid Alf-i-Sani, was situated in Patiala state, a region between Ludhiana and Ambala Districts. It was the head-quarter of the province under Mughal rule. My nana has never demanded anything from his children. But he asks them to take him to Sirhind, a word he speaks with such longing and love that every syllable seems covered in honey. Perhaps that is why he has started hallucinating. His desire to re-visit Sirhind is so strong, the place where his father had slapped a Sikh who tried to stop a Shia procession and where he had shared loaves covered in ghee with his father’s Hindu business partners. Every night, nana claims that ‘his friends’ in his dreams take him across the border to his home, where he was born in the year 1935. My nana is Chaudhry Muhammad Bashir, one of the most capable and eminent lawyers in Faisalabad. His grandfather...

Professional Workplace Dilemma

...Unfortunately that is not the case as I have dealt with many professionals who have acted unprofessional and uneducated. I have been employed for the past seven years to one of the top colleges in the country. The college has eight campuses in different parts of South Florida allowing it to be diverse in cultures both with students as well as with our faculty and staff and creating for ethical issues to arise at all times. The Experience Working for the Quick Copy Center at one of our campuses I must follow policies and procedures set out not only by the college, but by the state and the federal government. Many professors think that because they have Master’s or Doctorate degrees they have rights in not following procedures that I must enforce. I enforce policies and procedures not only to protect myself, but also to protect my employees, department and the college. On this particular day professor Fried came into the office requesting copies from a book for her class. I asked her to please provide me with a copy of the book and she refused. I immediately told her that I would need to see the book in order to abide by copyright laws that are not only in place at the college, but it was a federal law. She got very angry said I was stupid and was too much trouble for her and the students. She proceeded with breaking up our Quick Copy Form and throwing them at my face. I was furious, but thought quickly and remained calm. I told her I was following department regulations...

...group and I decided to use a questionnaire as our research method. Reason being, we found that it would be much more simple and sufficient. As our project was relating to teenagers we thought it would be a better way to attract teens into participating because it is a quick and easy way of getting detailed replies. We also decided to use observation as our second research method in order to see how many student within our college actually made time for breakfast. All the results we collected were counted up and tallied and placed in graphs that showed us that the majority of students skip breakfast because they spend their time travelling to college. In our literacy research we used the Internet to search for information that relates to our research project ‘Teenagers and breakfast before college’, which is a form of secondary research. I found that using the Internet helped me find information on the importance of breakfast, as the information was detailed and straightforward. I felt that reading books didn’t give me the information I was looking for as it has already been researched and written about, besides it only spoke about specific facts as I was searching for ‘Teenagers and breakfast before college’. Questionnaires are a set of written questions, which allows an individual to make their own choice of answers. The main purposes of questionnaires are for statistical studies or surveys. This relates to our chosen topic because we have our own statistical study of why we feel...

Team Meeting Reflection

...which is November 2nd 2015. I was able to work with the other placement students from Sheridan College. It was an amazing experience working with other knowledgeable students from different school. We were given a target, or should I say a theme to focus, we were asked to work on the agency website. To re-modify, remove or add to the website. During my practicum at the agency named Acorn 2Oak Community Services, I realized individuals have different ways of doing things. Reason why I said that is because, two of the students from Sheridan College got into arguments because of the task we were given. After drafting how the agency website should look like, the other female disagreed with her teammate on what she drafted. A lot of emotions occupied since either of these two want to agree or talk in one accord. For example, one of the students said something and I quote “this is why I hate working with other people.” This is surprising because I believe they both came from the...

...go onto college. My parents always wanted my brother and I to go to college, since they never had the chance to. My dad would always say, “I want better for you guys than I had for myself”. So it was not a big shock to my family when I said I wanted to graduate my Junior year of high school, a whole year earlier than my graduating class. I was set on going to college, I needed a reason to get out of my hometown of Council Bluffs and a way to do that, was by going to college. Why College Is Important

...Assignment 1 “Why college education is important to me” Achieving Academic Excellence February 6th, 2014 The purpose of this essay is to show the importance of a college education and to provide many reasons why a college education would be important to me. I will incorporate a few quoted references along with some statistical data and my personal opinion. About twenty years ago I couldn’t give an answer to “why college is important to me”. I did enroll in a college and lasted about three semesters. I didn’t do well in many of my classes because I had poor study habits, lacked maturity, was never really focused, and just didn’t have any real motivation and goals set for myself. I never really gave it much thought. The point is I just didn’t take advantage of what college would mean to me and to my future. I wanted to enter the work force right away because I thought that I could land a good job without a college education. After fifteen years of doing different jobs and not making enough money to support a family on my own, I was finally at a crossroads. What am I going to do with my life? Do I continue to struggle? Those were really good questions. I realized that it wasn’t possible to land good jobs without better knowledge and the only way possible is to go back to school. I did some soul searching and came to the conclusion that if I am going to achieve something in this life and qualify for many positions then I must go back to college and work very hard for a degree. I did a...

Mental Imagery Examples

...is why we are able to know so much because people created a mental structure of the systems after people have dissected humans when they died or saw the structure of different organisms. It all depends on the person who is trying to get a mental representation of what they have learned. I believe it comes down to creativity to because if you really tried there is a possibility of making mental images of how you are going to something. It being a dissection or just applying psychological applications with people I believe would develop a good mental image. In psych I have had to make several mental images of the knowledge they have given to me would work with different situations.
