For over one hundred years, the United States has participated in an inconvenient time change that begins in March and ends in November, all because a few agricultural workers thought that they needed an extra 60 minutes of daylight during their work hours. Although it is no longer necessary for farmers to complete their work loads in the winter due to modern technology, the people of America have continued to put up with this unnecessary cycle. This cycle is called Daylight Savings, and it should be banned from being used. It serves no purpose other than to fix a problem that is no longer broken, and this makes it very impractical. is because it negatively impacts jobs and employees in the U.S. For example, my uncle is a Police Officer in Utah. He had the ten pm to two am work shift when the clocks set back an hour this November. Theoretically, he worked five hours due to the extra hour added on. However, he was only paid for four hours, as his pay is precalculated and the random extra hour was lost in calculations. This means that he worked an extra hour that he didn’t get paid for. Another example is when nurses that have twenty-four hour shifts have to work an additional hour. This makes their original hours that much more strenuous and difficult. Although these nurses may be compensated for this extra hour, it takes a great toll on their body, and can even affect how they treat their patients. Even though some may argue that Daylight Savings is beneficial as most people get an extra hour’s worth of pay in one day, the negatives outweigh the positives, and it is not worth it. Whether the employees are compensated or not, Daylight Savings negatively affects employees and different jobs throughout the country, therefore adding to the reasons why it should be done away with in the
