Workplace Diversity: Communication between Management and Employees
Workplace challenges come in many forms. One of those challenges is communication, whether verbal or nonverbal, between co-workers or between management and employees. Businesses currently are being affected by communication issues that are hindering production, satisfaction, and employee retention (Salahuddin, 2010). Communication is a vital key to effective and good management. Face-to-face communication is always the best way to talk to your employees but that may not always be possible, so a combination of verbal and nonverbal communication may be the best practice for your company (Chazanof, 1998). Too many companies rely solely on newsletters, bulletins, and flyers to communicate with their employees, making them feel less important to the company. Written communication is good but companies should also use face-to-face communication as well, use a combination of both. Written communication in the form of newsletters or flyers is a great tool when communicating with employees (Chazanof, 1998). Having your company put together a newsletter filled with company events, statistics, news, etc. Getting your employees involved, asking for volunteers to contribute information can help bridge that communication gap. Newsletters help inform your employees of company events as well as keep them connected and make them feel involved, all good ways to keep the communication waves flowing within your organization.
“Communicating your expectations effectively can define the success or failure of your business” Chazanof (1998) said “A good way to do this is by teaching employees how to lead” (¶ 3). Holding regular employee meetings is a good way to open the communication gaps between management and employees. Good listening is important for management when speaking with employees, allowing

In the so-called information age, the greatest assets of most companies are now on two feet. Undeniably, there is a talent war raging. No company can afford to unnecessarily restrict its ability to attract and retain the very best employees available. While diversity has always existed, globalization, an increase in immigration, the sexual revolution and the output of the open formerly taboo subjects - such as living with a disability and gender preference - were placed in front -plan diversity of our concerns and the need to accept it. In the workplace, diversity encompasses elements that are evident, among other demographic differences such as gender, ethnicity and age, and more subtle differences, for example, the way we think or solve problems, social class or education. Because of the variety of backgrounds and approaches, it is not always easy for people to get along in the workplace (Diversityworld.com, 2014). However, it could be quite different. By learning to understand the challenges posed by differences and accept different points of view within your workgroup, you can use the strengths that represent a diverse team, in addition to expanding your horizons. Workforce diversity refers to organizations that are becoming more heterogeneous with the mix of people in terms of...

These differences can be expanded upon to not only include race and gender but to also include religion, culture, age, marital status, educational qualification, and many more. As companies become more globalized we will continue to see an increase in the number of diverse employees as well as the types of diversities within an organization. With this diversity comes some difficulties but the benefits exceed the negative by increasing an organizations competitiveness. This competitive increase is due to the ability of diverse groups to enhance creativity and innovation while making better decisions but only if diversity is properly managed. Managing Diverse Workforce

... Name Institution Introduction The concept of workplace diversity refers to the differences that exist within an organization based on the employees working together in a team (Sonnenschein, 2009). It is imperative to note that the modern working environment calls for the need to manage the diverse workforce. As such, the management shoulders the responsibility of ensuring that they effectively manage diverse employees within their organization. It would sound simple to think that managing such team does not require tact and knowledge. However, it is pertinent to note that the aspect of diversity encompasses many fields like ethnic background, race, and age of individuals, gender, educational level, and the personality type of people. Additionally, diversity involves how the individuals perceive themselves and others of the different background than theirs. Hence, the perceptions will interfere with how they interact with others and the manner in which the organization will operate (Blunt, 2009). Therefore, for various assortments of employees to be in a position to function effectively within an organization, the human resource personnel must effectively deal with a broad range of issues. Analyzing Diversity

...Dionne Butler Analyzing Diversity in the Workplace Business 610 Organizational Behavior Gary Shelton July 18, 2011 Abstract Diversity plays a very important role in success of an organization. The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual (free dictionary). In order for a company to survive and prosper in an increasingly society, organizations must capitalize on employee diversity as a source of completive advantage. The debate over how to deal with diversity has become highly charged and politicized. Therefore, companies have to design a diversity training program to raise awareness, understanding for cross-cultural issues as well as for areas of sexual orientation, age, gender, ethnicity, race, religion and mental or physical disability. Analyzing Diversity The word diversity is not new to the American vernacular; it has been around for many years. However, the meaning of the word diversity continues to evolve...
