Writing with authority is another way of saying writing with craft. More than anything, authority also refers to believability. In order to create believability, authority requires acknowledgement on concerning the reader. For some people, writing in their profession is a blessing for them, while others may see it as a curse. Not knowing how to accurately write in sociology can define one’s credibility as a professional writer. Therefore, just because some knows how to properly write in APA formatting doesn’t define the paper to be well written. In order to write a well written paper and mastering your research papers, the writer should learn how to write with authority. This could mean changing your writing styles, the tone of your writing …show more content…
When having credibility as a social worker, it will help their research and opinions to be more respected in the discourse community. When a student enters the profession, it is imperative for them to establish credibility to add a sense of authority to their writing. It will improve the students chances of finding a job. Writing with authoritative will help with job growth and the research aspect of a social worker. With a good reputation and the ability to interact with people, a social worker could be good with scheduling people. With more interested patients comes more satisfied patients, and finally, more potential patients wanting to meet; ultimately increasing clientele. “...students strengthen their disciplinary knowledge base, develop critical reading skills, begin to master genre and academic discourse conventions and acquire a confident and authoritative voice in their writing” (schneider and Andre 8). The only way a student will be able to write with confidence is if the professor teaches the student how to. Writing isn’t easy for some students, so to be able to gain confidence in writing, the student needs to practice their writing skills. The more opportunities the student has to practice, the more progress will be made by the student. Like in essay’s, the professor should give constructive criticism to the student on how to improve their writing skills. However, the professor could only give tips to the author if there is even words on the paper to work with. In the article, Adaptive from “Rewriting”, the author states, “One mark of a strong academic writer is the ability to move from global to the local, from projects to phrasings, from talking about a text as a whole to noticing moments of particular interests in it” (Harris 5). The variation between a student who is good at writing and a student who writes with confidence is the ability to not just reward someone’s ideas, rather to correctly word their own ideas.
