...Shin pads: Shin pads are worn in many sports to support and protect the shins and ankles; wearing shin pads can help to prevent injuries such as fractures and sprains as well as reducing the likelihood of suffering from bruising and swelling. Shin pads are commonly worn in football, hockey and ice hockey. They minimise the risk of an injury as the plastic gets inbetween the other player and your shin while absorbing some of the shock. Gum shield: A gum shield is extremely important in many physical sports such as rugby and boxing as there is a high chance of the participant getting g hit in the jaw/head, the reason why the gum shield is extremely important when minimising the risk of injuries as gum shields reduce cuts to the lip, mouth and tongue, protect teeth and help to prevent jaw and neck injuries by helping to avoid situations where the lower jaw gets slammed against the upper jaw Pads: In cricket you have to wear multiple pads in order to keep them safe, the reasons why these pads provide protection and are needed is because the cricket ball is extremely hard and the ball is usually traveling at high speeds and by having these protective...

...miscommunications about the violation of personal space during the extra-oral and intra-oral examination as there are cultural differences to consider. For example, when examining his lymph nodes for signs of infections, I will tell him I will touch his skin around his head and neck to feel for “lumps” as this could be a sign that the body is trying to fight infection (McKinley, O'Loughlin, & Bidle, 2013). This tells him what I am going to do and why it is important to do it. I will also palpate his temporomandibular joint (TMJ) by placing my fingers gently over the skin in front of his ears then ask him to open and close his mouth. This will allow me to detect sign of TMJ disorders such as pain in the preauricular area, deviations in jaw movemenent, clicking sounds during jaw movement (Wilkins, 2013). I will also look for signs of cellulitis such as swelling, facial asymmetry, trismus and pain (Robertson, Keys, Rautemaa-Richardson, Burns, & Smith,...

...Consequential Crocodile Touching a crocodile’s teeth may not sound like a fun activity to a person, let alone a child, with a sound mind, but Hasbro Gaming might be able to convince you to think otherwise. Introducing “Elefun and Friends Crocodile Dentist Game,” a fun toy for kids ages 4 and up. The toy is in a shape of a crocodile with a big head, and a wide opened mouth with only one row of teeth on the bottom jaw, which doubles as buttons. The concept of this game is simple. There is one trigger button randomly hidden under one of crocodile’s teeth, which make the upper jaw closes down upon pressing. Players take turn press down on one tooth at a time until one player presses the trigger button to make the upper jaw shut down, and then he or she loses the game. Although this toy is made out of plastic, and will most likely not be around when kids who play with it grow up, it still teaches many essential lessons about risk, action and consequences which those kids can use later in their lives. Modern day toys are mostly made out of plastic to shift the focus to availability rather then longevity of the toy. Wooden toys are elegant and durable, which give it a long life span, but many of those wooden toys are specific to the region of its creator. Shaping wood into desire form to fit in with its other components to provide some articulation and life to the toy demands concentration, and many particular tools, or process can be grueling. Because of the challenging process...

..."We basically kidnapped these sharks from their home and confused them for an hour on the way out," said study lead researcher Andrew Nosal, a postdoctoral researcher at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Birch Aquarium in California. "Yet, within 30 minutes of being released in the middle of the ocean a place that they had probably never been — they knew exactly where shore was, which was really neat. It's common knowledge that sharks are excellent navigators, often swimming along straight paths toward a target, but it's unclear what senses — such as sight, smell, or even electric or magnetic senses — help the animals plot a course, Nosal said. However, there are clues that sharks rely heavily on smell. For instance, the olfactory...

...“Jaws” was made in 1975 and it was directed by Steven Spielberg. There is a beach party on Amity Island, where a woman named Chrissie Watkins goes skinny dipping in the ocean. Then, something pulls under. The next day, parts of her are found on the shore. Because of this, the beaches are now closed. Trying to cover up that the death occurred by a shark attack in order to prevent fear, they say it was a boat accident. However, another fatal shark attack occurs shortly after. Meanwhile, consulting oceanographer Matt Hooper examines Watkins' remains and confirms her death was from a shark attack. Then, local fishermen catch a large tiger shark, the mayor proclaims the beaches safe. Hooper and Brody find a half-sunken vessel while searching the night waters in Hooper's boat. Underwater,...

...* Dundee as a "hybrid" of information (the real Paul Hogan's media personality and identification with Australia and the Australian) * Crocodile Dundee combined recognisably different dramatic forms: "the fish out of water" comedy with a 'populist' address * Crocodile Dundee was marketed in Australia as a blockbuster. Before the 10BA Tax Incentives blockbuster production was severely handicapped by lack of funds and publicity infrastructure. 10BA made both possible. Several general points about Crocodile Dundee as a blockbuster film are worth making to begin with. As a product of the tendency for box office revenues to concentrate in a handful of films in any one year, this blockbuster phenomenon (like The Godfather (1974) and Star Wars (1977)) led Hogan and Cornell to try and create a film "event" and to manage it appropriately. They did this in a number of ways. * Both the publicity and the release patterns worked to create the film as an event, as a phenomenon. * This was achieved through a multi-levelled and simultaneous campaign across the media (TV, magazine, radio, newspapers, and advertising) involving appearances, interviews, features articles, stories, and ads relating to Hogan, the film and its other creative talent (Linda Kozlowski, Faiman etc) * Given the double edged provisos of audience and social text it is not surprising that Dundee's producers had their origins in commercial TV. Crocodile Dundee was based on the TV comic and ad personality...

...As we go down into oceans, seas, lakes, or rivers, when we take a look into any aquatic ecosystem, we are able to see different living or non-living things, with different shapes, colours, sizes, different structures, compositions, and physical appearances – different types of fishes and species. Aquatic ecosystems, covering more than 70 percent of the Earth have lots and lots to offer. Many animals and organisms live or participate in aquatic ecosystems. We can find, catch many fishes such as, generally, milkfishes, angelfishes, butterfly fishes, catfishes, pipefishes, stargazer fishes, threadfin fishes, marlins, tunas, sharks, anchovies, moray eels, skates, and rays. Also, dolphins and whales, otters and seals – mammals that can survive (and able to live) in water. And of course, reptiles like turtles that can live up to hundreds of years, snakes, and alligators that can go back and forth to land and water. In general, these fishes in aquatic ecosystems have fins and scales, they utilize their gills for breathing, and obviously, they are cold-blooded. This includes the bony fishes (belonging to Class Osteichthyes), cartilaginous fishes (belonging to Class Chondrichthyes), and the jawless fishes (belonging to Class Agnatha). And they all have spinal columns which makes them “vertebrates”. In some dictionaries, the meaning of “fish” is the meat of a fish eaten as food, which is right. Most people know that fishes are only food – white meat, just like that. There are also people...

...What's Involved In Having One Of Your Teeth Pulled There are times when pulling one of your teeth might be the best way to deal with a dental problem. Your dentist has two ways of doing a dental extraction. One is a simple extraction that pulls the tooth out and the other is a surgical extraction that involves cutting into your gum to remove the tooth. A simple extraction may be all that's needed if you're having a tooth pulled because it is injured, decayed, or infected. Here's what you can expect with this procedure. A Local Anesthetic Prevents Pain Your dentist will numb the area surrounding the tooth so you won't feel pain during the procedure. However, you will still feel pressure because the dentist has to apply force to pull the tooth out. If you avoid the dentist because you fear the needle used for the anesthetic or you just have a general dental phobia, then discuss your options with the dentist. You might be given nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, so you can relax during the injection or the entire procedure. If you're having the tooth pulled because it is infected and causing you pain, then receiving the anesthetic injection offers pain relief so you can relax and endure the procedure. Your Tooth Is Wiggled Out Of Place Your tooth is held firmly in place by the root that's surrounded by a ligament and connected to a bone. Your dentist won't be able to pull a tooth straight up and out of your mouth. It has to be worked loose first. This is done by grasping the tooth...

...For Cinema I chose to do a frame on the popular movie Jaws. Looking at this I see lots of terms in Reality Through the Arts to analysis this particular frame from Jaws. The first thing I notice about the fame is the type of the film and the type is Narrative, which is telling a story in many ways to use the technique of theatre. Mise-en-scene is also featured in this shot by the usage of different techniques. Starting off with the camera angle is high and is also a framed shot that is close up giving a better look of the shark and actor but display the emotions of the actor and the shark's movement. This obviously shows the details such as the actor smoking a cigarette and the large teeth of the shark Lighting in another mise-en-scene technique...

...boyfriend's teeth after he dumped her for another woman is facing three years in jail in Wroclaw, Poland. Anna Mackowiak, 34, was astonished when just days after breaking up with her, Marek Olszewski, 45, turned up at her surgery complaining of tooth ache. "I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions. "But when I saw him lying there I just thought, 'What a bastard' and decided to take all his teeth out," she admitted. After putting him to sleep with a heavy dose of anesthetic, the spurned dentist locked the door and then began plucking his teeth out one by one. She then wrapped his head and jaw in bandage to prevent him opening his mouth and told him there had been complications and he would need to see a specialist. Toothless cabbie Marek said: "I knew something was wrong because when I woke up I couldn’t feel any teeth and my jaw was strapped up with bandages. "She told me my mouth was numb and I wouldn’t be able to feel anything for a while and that the bandage was there to protect the gums, but that I would need to see a specialist. "I didn’t have any reason to doubt her, I mean I thought she was a professional. "But when I got home I looked in the mirror and couldn’t f***ing believe it. "The b**ch had emptied my mouth. "The new girlfriend has now left me saying she can’t be with a man without teeth. "And I’m going to have to pay a fortune on getting indents or something," he said. Prosecutors say the dentist is being investigated...

...The Comparison of JAWS And Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home Some films often have themes and messages in them that are only relevant to the time the film was made. One such example is the movie Jaws, which depicts a shark as the main antagonist. For its time the movie was incredibly successful playing upon the fears people had of sharks while swimming. However with awareness of the planet increasing and people understanding that sharks are endangered species which humans are invading their habitat in the first place, movies like Jaws are less acceptable. This is the reason why most rip off movies of Jaws are these terrible B grade movies. The only way a movie like this could exist in this current time is by having a really far out plot like a mutated or genetically modified shark terrorizing everyone. The focus of this essay will compare Jaws (1975) to Free Willy 2 (1995). The focus is on the treatment of animals and how they are represented in these two films. As well as this other events such as what happened between these two periods will be looked at to understand not only how both films are different but why they are different. Jaws was originally made in 1975 by director Steven Spielberg. Spielberg is a good example of a director who has perfect timing to releasing a film at a time when the public wants it. Due to the films success and the nature of Spielberg means that Jaws is an expression of the society’s conscious and articulates the current fears and trends...

...labels are used for cataloguing purposes in order to make note-taking easier. Long-Nosed Sea Monitor (Foundem inwaterus) This ocean-dwelling creature seems to keep at least a third of its body above the waterline. Two horns protrude from a head that is covered in blonde hair. The mouth, lined with nine incisors along the upper jaw, resembles that of an alligator, giving this wild thing the appearance of having a long nose. There are six spines along the back of the neck and three claws on each of the visible front feet. The top of a wing-like structure covers the top of the front feet. Attempts to observe the rest of the body have so far been unsuccessful. Horned Lion (Leo decapitatum) This quadruped seems to lead the wild things and is almost double the size of the smallest wild thing: the razor-toothed sheep. A total of sixteen claws are evenly spread across this creature’s four feet. The body and head resemble that of its namesake, the lion. The difference, however, lies in the three horns that adorn the head. Two are located on the head towards the back, with one horn on either side. The third emerges from the upper jaw, in close proximity to the nose. Razor-Toothed Sheep (Ovinus noshaggum) This is the smallest of the wild things encountered to date during this investigation. In spite of its size and its appearance—it resembles a domestic sheep—it seems quite capable of holding its own against its larger...

...The first thing I saw was Scott’s sharp, angular teeth sink into Liam’s flesh. Liam wasn’t even gripping the railing any longer. Instead, he was hanging only by Scott’s jaw fixed into his side. The shrill shrieks that emerged from Liam’s mouth were enough for any creature to cower and cringe in sympathetic pain. However, I did not cringe, nor did I sympathise. My eyebrows furrowed together like they were two trains travelling in opposite directions on the same track. My mouth fell ajar and I took a large breath. My eyes were motionless, fixed on Scott and the daggers that grew beneath his lips. Those teeth that sliced Liam’s flesh would change him forever. He was either going to die or become something that everyone wanted to kill. Scott bit into him like it was nothing, like it was a piece of steak on his dinner plate. I don’t even know why I was surprised. Scott never saw his actions as harmful. He always said his sole mission was to “protect his friends” but when did that ever work? He did it for himself. He always did it for himself. When he first got bitten, all he thought about was his own self. About how he couldn’t be normal or how he’d lose Allison. But he never thought about how exactly Allison would feel. He didn’t think about how if she would be upset or hurt or even scared. He only thought about how he would feel. How he would be upset or hurt or even scared. It was selfish and I was the only one who saw it. He didn’t bite Liam to save him. He bit him for himself...

...The animals are ready to burst out of their cages and breathe the fresh air of middle school grounds. Students frantically begin to hush their peers in order to be the first let out. In the jungle, there is always two or three monkeys that decide to create chaos. Among the others they were whispering of games they would play and who was on which team. In Wilson Southern Middle School, those monkeys at recess decided to play a rule-breaking game of shark and minnows. Along with this game, they played a back breaking lunch bag tag, and a risking game of four square. Shark and minnows is known for the velocity in which the enemies (sharks) run to tag their victims (minnows). Similarly, at recess sixth graders play the animal like version of shark and minnows. During this game one amaeture middle schooler starts to attack the “minnows” to draw them into his group of sharks. Meanwhile, the minnows are at a state of every man for themselves. They attempt to dodge the shark’s attempts of tagging them. At the same time, the prey tries to make it to the other side of the field. Surrounding the perimeter are colorful cones that signal the outline of the field. Shortly after the game begun, their animal like spirit started to fluoresce and show. They began to run over and misplace the cones. The teachers guarding the recess grounds didn't seem to mind the students ruining school property. Since nobody was really paying attention to who was getting tagged the minnows were using this...

...Gabrielle Ibanez Cinema Appreciation 15 April 2015 Jaws “The Beach Scene” Steven Spielberg is without a doubt a director whom has become a household name. With many thousand project titles under his belt in one way or another, one must wonder what the magic behind a Steven Spielberg blockbuster is? In this paper I will be analyzing Spielberg’s story telling in the uncut beach scene in Jaws. This was only Spielberg’s second large studio film and he shows signs throughout every bit of it to be quite an artist with a gift that allows his scenes to breathe organically. Spielberg’s early work has a under layering feeling of Hitchcock styled moments which can be felt throughout the beach scene and Jaws in general. In a very fluid motion he reveals all of the scenes critical elements. First, the camera direction is one that is worth noting. The scene starts with a left pan following a large woman, anyone in the audience would assume she would make quite a full and appetizing meal for the shark lurking in the depths of the ocean. Behind the large woman we see the young man in yellow playing fetch with his dog who will later act as the first red flag that danger has already arrived. Once the woman goes into the water and the young man’s dog goes that direction as well, the young boy we are really meant to follow enters from the left; opposing the camera direction. I feel that the large woman, the dog and the young man in yellow act like arrows pointing your attention towards the...
