“Your Waitress, Your Professor“

In her article “Your Waitress, Your Professor,” Brittany Bronson believes that the division society places between blue-collar and white-collar jobs is inaccurate and gives an artificial appearance as to what a job is defined as. With many students going to college for a chance to get an “intelligent” job, they often become laden with debt and have to get a job to help with tuition, Bronson claims that having a blue-collar job does not mean that you are a failure, a job is a job. For example, Bronson is an English instructor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a colleague in her department tells their students,” they need to learn that survival work will not grant them the economic security of white-collar

...CHAPTER II Review of Related Literature A. Foreign Studies College Students, especially freshmen, are a group particularly prone to stress (D’Zurilla & Sheedy, 2001) due to the transitional nature of college life (Towbes &Cohen, 2003). They must adjust to being away from home for the first time, maintain a high level of academic achievement, and adjust to a new social environment. College students, regardless of year in school, often deal with pressures related to finding a job or potential life partner. These stressors do not cause anxiety or tension by themselves. Instead, stress results from the interaction between stressors and the individual’s perception and reaction to those stressors (Romano, 2002). The amount of stress experienced may be influenced by the individual’s ability to effectively cope with stressful events and situations (D’Zurilla & Sheedy, 2001). If stress is not dealt with effectively, feelings of loneliness and nervousness, as well as sleeplessness and excessive worrying may result (Wright, 2000). It is important that stress intervention programs be designed to address stress of college students. However, in order to design an effective intervention, the stressors specific to college students must be determined (Wright, 2000). The dynamic relationship between the person and environment in stress perception and reaction is especially magnified in college students. The problems and situations encountered by college students may differ...

Procrastination Research Paper

...D Ajith Reddy Professor Sami Ahmad Khan English-I 10 November 2016 The Active Procrastination Procrastinating is better than spending time stressing out one’s self. The world has long regarded procrastination as a self-handicapping and dysfunctional behaviour but if we look into the books of history, procrastination was not considered a bad thing. The Greeks and Romans considered it as a noble thing and the rulers/Kings were expected to sit around and literally do nothing till something needed their attention. The idea of procrastination being a bad thing developed in the Puritanical era and is still considered the same. In the present study, the authors proposed that not all procrastination behaviours either are harmful or lead to negative...

...the time. To help me with my day-to-day problems, I will need information on time management strategies and even some relaxation techniques. I can find information on how to accomplish this at the library with self help books or by visiting websites such as: www.helpguide.org or www.mayoclinic.com. When I research on the Internet, I look for websites that contain up-to-date information and come from trusted sources such as professors or doctors. Feeling overwhelmed is best dealt with by relaxation and learning to relax is something that a doctor will have plenty of knowledge and experience in. Time management is something that professors would have a great deal of experience in. I will find an article that has been written by a professor or doctor and it should offer several helpful suggestions. According to Carter, Bishop, & Kravits (2007), “time management allows you to complete work on a reasonable schedule and minimize stress.” The purpose of time management is to accomplish tasks and goals by effectively managing your schedule. Critical Thinking

...Sessoms The winter of 2010 in Cambridge left three feet of snow on campus most weeks. Professors did not cancel any classes or final exams. My three hour proctored exams were held on campus at 8 pm with a minus ten degree wind chill factor. Critical thinking skills were required to figure out how to make the ten mile drive into campus with no car and no taxis running. I found a cheap car service with snow chains and made it in to each exam. Getting out of campus at 11 pm was more difficult, with a two hour car service wait outside when they locked the exam building. You learned defensive strategies such as keeping your cell phone charged, triple layered gloves, scarves, hats, and socks. Waterproof snow boots were mandatory. My role as a student, employee, friend, coworker, and significant other is to use the best critical thinking skills possible for the best ethical outcomes. I challenge myself to be a reflective thinker, recognizing barriers, and finding methods of replacement and modification. I am always surprised to hear so many stories of tenured professors and students conspiring to cheat on exams. I am discouraged by stories of local stories of college athletes accepting gifts and money without shame. Internal biases lead to corrupt critical thinking in each case. 12.85 GB (85%) of 15 GB used 12.85 GB (85%) of 15 GB used Self-analysis of external and internal barriers and puppeteer forces is painful, complicated, and crucial process...
