Last, I will explain how to use the information I have gathered to resolve the problem or issue at hand. The problem or issue that I am having in my day-to-day life is procrastination. I don’t know why, but for some reason it’s hard for me to get started on any task. I found myself getting very distracted at times and usually wind up avoiding the situation. I think I work better under pressure so I tend to put things off until the last-minute hoping that the time crunch will push me to get the task done. When I know I have to get something done I usually think I have plenty of time and start to blow things off. An example of this is a trip that I have been planning to San Diego in order for me to obtain a birth certificate. My birth certificate is needed in order for me to apply for jobs and other needed benefits. If I did this by mail the process would be more complicated in which it...

...Research Strategy Paper Malcom McDonnell Gen/200 September 14. 2010 Anthony Boccia Research Strategy Paper A problem that I have identified in which I have in my academic life is procrastination. Procrastination has been an issue for me since my years in high school and it is time I develop a strategy to deal with this “catastrophic” issue. In this paper I will develop a research strategy to find a solution for my academic procrastination and will incorporate these solutions into my academics. Have you ever received an assignment or project and you are given a few days to complete it. You tell yourself “ok, I am going to start working on the assignment tomorrow”. Now tomorrow has come and you know you have to start working on your assignment but then you’re going “well I still have two more days to do it” so you tell yourself “ok I will start tomorrow because I still have another day before it’s due”. Next thing you know it’s the night before your assignment is due and now you are stressing out, pressing for time, and up past midnight trying finishing your assignment. This what I have been doing for the last three years in school, waiting till the last minute to start a paper or study for exam. By me procrastinating when it comes to school work I feel pressured, stressed, and also feel as if I am not creating work that is to the best of my ability, this has caused me to receive grades that I was unsatisfied with and really has just made me an average student. I’m not...

...YouTube video, it has become easier and more tempting to NOT do work- procrastination, progresses natural assassin. Solomon and Rothblum (1984) defined procrastination as the “act of needlessly delaying tasks to the point of experiencing subjective discomfort” (503). However procrastination strikes deep into every aspect of daily life and spans far wider than this paper can cover, so a focus will be brought on to procrastination in an academic setting. Academic procrastination is the intentional delay of starting, doing, or completing their important academic work in a timely fashion (Rabin, Fogel, & Upham, 2011). Ellis and Knaus (1977) estimated 95% of American college students procrastinate. Solomon and Rothblum (1984) through self reports discovered 46% of students admit to procrastinating, and 50% of those people reported it as a mild to severe problem. The prevalence of academic procrastination is varied from study to study, but it is unanimous that academic procrastination is a problem that must be addressed. Some of the consequences of academic procrastination are external, decreased progress/learning (Rabin et al., 2011), and increased health risk (Tice & Baumeister, 1997). Some of the consequences are internal such as depression, irrational cognitions, lower self esteem, and anxiety (Solomon & Rothblum, 1984). There are many negative aspects of academic procrastination. As stated earlier procrastination strikes deep into every aspect of daily life, it is a problem that...

...Overcoming Personal Procrastination Overcoming Personal Procrastination Abstract This paper will identify a personal problem of procrastination, where I will find solutions to help correct this problem, evaluate the information I have gathered, and explain how I will use the information to implement correction to my personal procrastination. Overcoming Personal Procrastination In my life I think I have always procrastinated. I remember since childhood in elementary school and middle school finishing projects the last day or late into the night before the project was due. Through this class, I have learned that it is partially due to my intense perfectionism. I get nervous and sometimes anxious of the impending project. It also has to do with the uncomfortable feeling of the unknown. When I do not know what I am going to do for a project, or I haven’t read what is expected, I push it off. I tend to always hit my deadlines, but do so in a hurry which does not help me to actually learn what I am working for. I don’t always procrastinate, but I undeniably do it frequently. I definitely always mean the best- as I want to be the best. Unfortunately, procrastination does not do me any justice. In order to overcome my procrastination I will need to do more than recognize it. Of course, though, it is a very important first step to fixing the problem. Besides understanding procrastination and how it develops, I need to do more research on understanding it and find...

...Hendry Widyanto Kate Goschen English 90 24 November 2015 How to Deal with Procrastination Procrastination is a bad habit. Procrastination is a term for psychological disorder that is characterized by people who delay a task or things that have to be done. People who exhibit symptoms like this are called procrastinators. In fact, according to one study, “80% to 95% of college students engage in procrastination, approximately 75% consider themselves procrastinators, and almost 50% procrastinate consistently and problematically” (Steel 65). Procrastination happens a lot in college students, and the amount of students who become consistent procrastinators are about half of the total of students. According to Statistic Brain Research Institute, there are 17,487,475 enrolled students in the United States (“College Enrollment Statistics”). It means, there are 8,743,738 students who become consistent procrastinators during this year. Although most of people think that procrastination seems to be unimportant, it can have a bad effect if the students procrastinate frequently. Procrastination is caused by procrastinators’ feelings that dominate the control and task characteristic. However, time management, understanding time, and rewarding themselves can solve the procrastination. Procrastination can be considered a common phenomenon in our life. Everyone procrastinates sometimes during their life, but not everyone is a consistent procrastinator. Procrastinators are the people who...

Hence, the relevant conceptual, theoretical, and empirical work is reviewed, drawing upon correlational, experimental, and qualitative findings. A meta-analysis of procrastination’s possible causes and effects, based on 691 correlations, reveals that neuroticism, rebelliousness, and sensation seeking show only a weak connection. Strong and consistent predictors of procrastination were task aversiveness, task delay, selfefficacy, and impulsiveness, as well as conscientiousness and its facets of self-control, distractibility, organization, and achievement motivation. These effects prove consistent with temporal motivation theory, an integrative hybrid of expectancy theory and hyperbolic discounting. Continued research into procrastination should not be delayed, especially because its prevalence appears to be growing. Keywords: procrastination, irrational delay, pathological decision making, meta-analysis Procrastination is extremely prevalent. Although virtually all of us have at least dallied with dallying, some have made it a way of life. Estimates indicate that 80%–95% of college students engage in procrastination (Ellis & Knaus, 1977; O’Brien, 2002), approximately 75% consider...

...Study Habits and Its Effect on Students Academic Achievement A Research Paper Presented to The Faculty of the English Department College of Business Adventist University of the Philippines Silang, Cavite In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Course Communication Arts 2 Raddison Brian Dorado March 8, 2016 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Research has concluded that it’s not how smart students are but how motivated they are and how they study that determines their growth in academic achievement (Society for Research in Child Development, 2012.) According to Kou Murayama (2012), while intelligence as assessed by IQ tests is important in the early stages of developing mathematical competence, motivation and study habits play a more important role in student’s subsequent growth. A student who does not have good study habits cannot do well in class recitation, daily quizzes, and actual pupil demonstration since he/she did not study and review the lessons learned. Good study habits are the tools to success (Losare, 2009). Losare (2009) also stated that nowadays, many children are engaged in computer games, cutting classes, watching television, excessive playing, and, worst of all, are involved in vices such as illegal drugs, gambling, and crimes. Others also use their intelligence in foolishness and bad deeds. They should be able to balance and manage their time wisely. A recent survey showed that nearly 40% of parents say high school is stressful for...

...Alicia Henderson CRN: 9020781966 Research Paper The problem that I am going to attempt to solve is procrastination. I have a horrible problem with procrastination, most of the time I am not too bad with it, but there are times when I just don’t want to do something and I will keep putting it off till I am forced to have to do it. I wish I would just get it done and not have to worry about it. So I want to discover ways to manage my time effectively and hopefully stave off the ability to procrastinate. The information that I will gather will be about time management skills, how to keep a schedule and how to say no. I will research using Google to find how other people manage their time, and what steps they take to keep to a schedule. I will also research how to best manage a busy schedule and make sure that everything that needs to get done is getting done and how to recognize when I am procrastinating and the steps I can take to avoid those traps. I will look at articles, e-books and forums for information and tips. For my selected problem it is not necessary to have scientific methods to help solve it, I almost think it best to learn from others with the same concerns and the steps they took to solve it. So I think the forums are probably my best bet. I will also look for polite ways to tell people that I am not available. Especially since this is one of the major factors for my procrastination. I tend to say yes, just because what I really need...

...Procrastination: A PUPian Student Must Overcome By: Elloso, Princess L. Yan, Rochelle C. Chapter I : Problem and Background A. Background of the study When you look for the meaning of “procrastination” in the dictionary, it says that “it is an act of putting something off until later”. Obviously it is same for the Filipino term “Mañana Habit” means “mamaya na lang”. This habit is something we have learned from the Spaniards. And as we can see, most of the students do this habit. How it works? First of all, you need to do something NOW, but then you decide to do it later. As a result of the delay, you end up not doing it. Now, you tell yourself or somebody that you will do it TOMORROW. And tomorrow comes, the same cycle happens. Procrastination is finding the most difficult way of doing something. It’s jumping from one idea to another. Instead of starting your work, you procrastinate. You’re looking out the window, you’re staring at your neighbour, you’re watching television and you’re wasting your time instead that you have finish your work. In Psychology, there is this thing called “Present Bias”. It means being unable to grasp what you want. A change over time, what you want now isn’t the same thing you will want later. Procrastination is all about choosing WANT over SHOULD because you don’t have a plan for those times when you expect to be tempted. You must be depth at thinking about thinking because there will always be a war on your brain. B. Statement...

A big concern can be what if something happens but you have to turn those negative thoughts into positive thoughts. The time you may spend wondering if something happens, you could have been finish with school. Last but not least are procrastination issues. Procrastination is putting off a task until the last...
