Testing for Fecal Coliforms Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to test the water for fecal Coliforms. We will do this by testing water sample from the river, the pond, and the tap. After we acquire the water we put it in a vile and then into a petri dish to sit and develop the coliforms. Hypothesis: I believe that we will see a lot of fecal coliforms in the river and in the pond but not in the tap because it goes through a filter, and does not come in contact with animal waste. Data/ Observations:

by nature and although I will wait, I can’t wait to be a mother. Imagine my shock and disbelief when I realized not all women can produce children. In Vitro is a process in which an egg is fertilized by sperm outside of the body in a test tube or petri dish. Once the egg is fertilized it is then places inside the womb where a successful pregnancy can occur. Thanks to in vitro or IVF millions of babies are born to parents who have been unsuccessful at conceiving naturally. Professor Robert Edwards

in 1981, scientists have unearthed ways to derive embryonic stem cells from mice, eventually gaining the knowledge to extract them from humans, in 1998. Embryonic stem cell research is when an egg and sperm cell is obtained from a donor, mixed in a Petri dish, and the egg is fertilized to produce a stem cell line for research. The scientists begin this process by conducting in vitro fertilization, or an egg being fertilized out of the womb, and into a lab setting. A stem cell is essentially a “blank”

experiment was to show that osmosis of water thru plant stomata does not require energy (ATP). Materials and methods: In order to test the hypothesis, epidermis from the Zebrina plant was removed with a razor into 4 pieces and was placed in Petri dishes. Tweezers were then used to place each epidermis onto one of four slides. Each of the four slides contained different solutions: Distilled Water, Sucrose, DNP, and Sucrose plus DNP. Cover slips were then used to place

implanting of the embryos. Only a handful of scientic in the world are capable of deciphering the genetic makeup of an embryo. To examine the embryos, first the women most go through In Vitro Fertilization (I.V.F), I.V.F is mixing sperm and egg in a petri dish to create multiple embryo. Next scientists can perform a P.G.D on the embryos. With P.G.D a scientific breakthrough happened scientists could now see the sex of the embryos instead of waiting the normal 16-20 weeks to know the sex of a person's

Karen Bleile Genetic Report for Designer Babies Biology 111-112 / J. Thomson October 30, 2012 In the 21 century the term designer babies made the transition from sci-fi movies into the real world where it is defined as “a baby whose genetic makeup has been artificially selected by genetic engineering combined with invitro fertilization to ensure the presence or absence of particular genes or characteristics.” (Oxford University, 2005) Breeders of animals and plants

scarlet fever, from infections of the bones, throat, stomach or, brain. Many of us would not be here today had it not been for the discovery of penicillin. In 1928, Alexander Fleming made a chance discovery from an already discarded, contaminated Petri dish. The mold that had contaminated the experiment turned out to contain powerful antibiotic, penicillin. However, though Fleming was credited with the discovery, it was over a decade before someone else turned penicillin into the miracle drug for
