...Around my sophomore year of high school, I began joining a numerous amount of clubs thinking it would benefit me when I would have to apply to college. However, as many would expect, I stopped attending the meetings of all but about three clubs. One club that favored over all others is High-Q. This club involved competing against other high schools in a quiz bowl style format similar to the Jeopardy. The most memorable moment occurred senior year as four other members, two advisors, and myself traveled to Washington D.C. to compete for the National Academic Championship. The journey to D.C. began after a school day as we all crowded in a small minivan for the seven-hour ride ahead of us. Most of the time in the car was spent sleeping;...

...School has changed drastically in the past few years. However, this institution has not always changed for the better. Three areas that need improvement so students feel more joy and freedom in their learning include changing lunch options, arranging different hours in school, and reducing standardized test taking. These changes would benefit the school hugely to make students enjoy being at school, Which would increase test scores, grades, and participation in class. The changes that have been made to school system has not made my experience better throughout high school. The school changed lunch to make healthier choices for high schoolers; although these changes have only caused frustration for people that actually want to enjoy their lunch. For example, my school used to have huge chocolate chip cookies for sale during lunch, but due to the push to receive funding for lunches, schools had to eliminate the delicious cookies that students enjoyed. Schools also, eliminated syrup and other sugary toppings in order to try and reduce child obesity. Quite often kids don’t even eat school lunch because of all the different changes that have been made, so I believe that eating good food in order to make school a better experience is a priority....

...attend Alpena High school are required to take a set amount of math, english, science, and social studies classes if they want to graduate high school. If all the required classes are not completed, students are not allowed to receive their high school diplomas. This is not the most effective way to prepare a student to enter the workforce or college. The best and most efficient method to educate and ready students for life after high school is to get rid of required classes and let students pick their own classes because: they can better prepare themselves for their career and college, college tuition could be reduced, students would not be restricted in their choice of classes, and required classes waste the time of both students and teachers. If required classes are eliminated students would be able to better prepare themselves for life after high school, whether that be college or work. By being able to choose their classes in high school students would be able to take classes to better ready themselves for their career and potentially eliminate having to go to a trade school or college. For example, someone who is planning to enter the workforce right out of high school would have the...

...What are you going to do after high school? That is always the basic question that every high school senior is asked. But, the sad thing is, most of them have no idea. Many think that if students were to start preparing for their future after high school while they are still in grade school, or middle school, then they will be more ready. On the other hand, others think that if you start preparing too early for college, then you may result in a burnout, and then not even want to go to college. I believe that starting while you're in middle school, would be the best option for three main reasons. I believe that it will help students stay on track with their grades, I believe that it will give students the motivation for after high school, and I believe that the students will be less stressed when it does come to their senior year. To begin, I believe that if students start preparing for college earlier than high school than it will help them get better grades overall. I speak from experience, because if I would have started preparing and knowing what I needed to have in order to get into the colleges I wanted, I wouldn't have messed around with...

...Canton. This will be my first pitching lesson ever and my mind is racing. I am wondering what the pitching instructor will be like. I am wondering if he is nice or not, or if he’ll make me run a lot, or how much better he’ll make me. I hate running. I’m also wondering if we’ll stop to get McDonald’s after or not because I’m ten and I want a happy meal. We have finally arrived, and the first thing I see is “Hall of Fame Fitness Center.” I begin to think of all these great sports figures like Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds and how they must practice here too since it’s the Hall of Fame Fitness Center. ...They say after high school you're life changes and nothing is at all what you expected it will be. Rather it's putting on the Freshman 15, buying a car/apartment, or changing your major 20 times to meeting the love of your life, but for me I hope to experience out of those things only buying a car or apartment. In the future the two most important things to me is to be happy and successful. After high school I plan to take my first vacation out of Illinois in California for a week. Then later take another trip to Paris and visit the Eiffel Tower while loading up on spaghetti or go to Germany and go sight-seeing. After summer I plan to attend UIS to start my journey of becoming a social worker, while being a two sport athlete playing softball...

With my physical form in my right hand along with my tryout forms right on top of them I left. When I arrived home I thought if I made the right decision about quitting. I knew I should not have quit. I could have tried. I vouched that next year I would try...

...The first five years of my life after high school were thrown away. Sad to say, I allowed my peers to decide what type of person I was going to be. We didn’t take life seriously, and that was the biggest problem. It was my twelfth grade in high school, and due to my background with getting into various altercations during or after school, I was told by the principal, “You don’t have to come back to school until final exams and graduation.” Yes! I thought, I’m only going to school for one class anyway. My mentality and structure were fixed on getting a job. Even though my dad didn’t spend enough time with helping me to plan my future out, I was a follower of what I saw being done, and that was working hard to make a living. Now I was seventeen...
