Is it possible for Akitas’ to be raised with love and care and the proper accurate training will turn into the ideal companion? In my research and own experiences, Akitas need tender loving care, and when given this they are the gentlest creatures in the world. This is when stereotyping comes in. When someone comes face to face with an Akita, they jump to the fact that they are dangerous animals that were breed for hunting and tracking down bears (Pflaumer 1998 para 4). What people do not realize is that a “human” makes a dog a “dangerous” animal no visa versa.
In Japanese history, the Akita is one of the oldest native dogs, as described both verbally and written (Drake, copyright 2007 para. 6). As a dog high intelligence, its sense of smell, sight and hearing are its best. You normally would find that the Akita is a quite dog, only barking if overly excited or someone unknown is coming up to the house, which in turn makes the Akita a great watch dog. You can find that most Akitas stand from 24 – 28 inches, and weigh anywhere from 85 to 135 pounds (Pflaumer 1998 para 12). You will also find that Akitas come in many different colors and markings. In American history Helen Keller visited Japan in 1937and out of respect the Ministry’s of Education presented her with two Akita pups for the sprit she displayed by learning to communicate despite being deaf and a mute. The well know Akita Club of America was founded in 1956, the Akita was accepted into the American Kennel Club Working Group in 1973 lastly in 1996 the Akita ranked 35th among the 143 breed that AKC registered with 11,161 dogs listed (Pflaumer 1998 para 8 and 11).
Most people will agree that the Akita’s temperament varies from being very intelligent, extremely loyal, and can exalt tendencies of aggravation. This aggravation normally comes from owners trying to introduce other dogs of the same sex (ACA, copyright 2007 pap. 7). The ACA states that it is a phenomenal way that the Akita displays its loyalty and devotion (ACA 2007 para 7). An Akita will follow you room to room and be at you feet every step of the way. The Akita’s on e goal in life is to protect you and spend all its time with you (ACA 2007 para. 6). Ms Bouyet states that the Akita is a very family orientated dog and that they do not like being apart for their families and your Akita need to exercise regularly when you leave. Your Akita will sleep until your return (1990 para. 19 and 20). In Pflaumer article, she quotes Carol Forti:
The Akita is highly sensitive to their owners/handlers thoughts. Whenever I showed one, I always would send him the mental message that he is gorgeous. Invariably the dog notices my attitude and presents himself accordingly in the show ring. (Pflaumer 1998 para 19)

Akitas, like humans, do not like to be teased, and they may act aggressively in response to it. When it comes to large breeds, the Akita prefers to be the only male dog. This way it can show itself as the “Leader of the pack” (Andrew 1999). With experience to this, our Akita knows that my husband is the “leader” in the house and that I am the “mommy”. We also have a male Chihuahua who gets along with our Akita, and the only reason for that is probably the different size in the two. This goes to say that the Akita was NOT breed for hunting because if they were I would have a dead Chihuahua right now.
One way to make sure your Akita is the ideal companion is to make sure you are the one doing its training. This is one of the main downfall of any breed is the training, or the training they receive is the wrong training. It’s best if you enroll him into obedience class this way you can learn how and why he behaves the way he does with this you also learn how to communicate with him (Andrews 1999 page 89 para 3 and 4). There are different roles to play while you are training your Akita; they are of discipline, Reward and Punishment. With out disciplining him total and utter chaos breaks out and it will because the downfall of the group, they also need discipline to know how to live their lives in order with the pack (family). When punishing your Akita, you want to do this when the first cross the line with you, you don’t want to wait 15 minutes or so to this, this will in-turn confuse the animal. When rewarding him you want to do this when he has done something you commanded him to do. One flaw in my own training I found is that I have let him take charge of certain situations and he tends not to listen to me, but with a little work, you can fix this problem. With successful training your Akita will able to do tricks as sit, shake, lay, they will also be able to walk with their heads held high instead of down and their tail in between their legs.
There are times when you see tolls on these certain breeds as being classified as “dangerous” dog. People are now aiming finger of prejudice at the dog instead of the owner. If a dog attacks someone, people ask these questions: Are you going to put the dog asleep. You knew you were getting dangerous breed, why did you get it to start with. You do not hear: Where were the owners when this was happening; why did you allow this to happen? What kind of training has the dog received?

(there was a chart here but it didn't paste if you would like to see it please email me)

This chart shows four different breeds with the Akita having fewer than 100 attacks on adults and children as well as having little to no deaths with these attacks. The Rottweiler has fewer than 300 for all four of the categories, and the Boxer as you see is in the same boat as the Akita. The Pitt Bull however has more than 500 different cases sense 2006 (Clifton 2006 page 1 and 2). This is no fault of the animals but of their human counterparts. If I train a dog to attack then they are going to attack on command because their owner taught it not because they were born that way, and having this kind of training they will know to attack the smaller and weaker animal.
Not only are Akitas judged right off the bat but most large breed dogs are as well. When we brought home our Akita my best friend spent about two weeks trying to talk me into giving him back because he was a “dangerous” dog. What she did not realize was that she was judging him before she was getting to know him. After reading up on Akitas and spending time with him, she understood how gentle he could be. Before people say “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you got THAT type of dog its SO dangerous.” They need to read up on the breed and become educated with the way the mind of the animal works. What people need to remember is that violent and dangerous Akitas, and other breeds, are not born but created by the stupidity of their owners.

Pricing

...Case of the Pricing Predicament This case is about a bid from Scott at Standard Machine to Occidental Aerospace, their largest and most loyal account. Scott placed a bid for $429K. Joann is the purchasing agent at Occidental Aerospace. Joann notified Scott she had received lower bids and offered him a chance to change his bid to $22k less than his original bid. Joann also reminded him they would be building two more plants which could be more potential business. Standard Machine uses a fixed policy for bids. It appears that Occidental Aerospace wants to continue doing business with Standard Machine which is why they are giving them a chance to submit a new bid. I believe the main reason Standard Machine is in this difficult situation is because they are sticking to a fixed pricing policy. In order to beat the competition and keep the relationship with Occidental Aerospace, they need to figure out a different pricing strategy. Another reason they may be in this situation is the fact Occidental Aerospace is giving information out regarding bids by other competitors. This could be considered a violation of ethics. Standard Machine also does not know if this “inside” information is accurate or not. Joann could just be giving false information to get a lower bid and still keep the relationship between them and Standard Machine. As far as what has changed in the business relationship between Standard Machine and Occidental Aerospace, competition has increased and better pricing...

...competitive bid policy, and said it would apply to the acquisition of a computerized milling machine for Occidental’s new training center. Scott nevertheless submitted his $429,000 proposal with great confidence and even boasted to his regional sales manager that the deal was “in the bag”. After two weeks of unreturned phone calls, however, Scott got the feeling his confidence had been sorely misplaced. “Hi, Joanne, Long time, no hear. What’s up?” Joanne got right to the point. “Scott, I’ve got a $22,000 problem you can solve”. “What do you mean?” “You know we have to look hard at a number of different vendors on purchases of this size. And your bid is well above the competition’s. Kakuchi came in under $390,000, and Akita Limited at a little over 400K”. She waited, and Scott waited back, not wanting to show his anxiousness. “The way I count it,” she finally continued, “You’re $22,000 too high, and I just can’t sell that here”. “Well, Joanne, you get what you pay for in this world. You know that Standard’s got the best machine tool equipment in the world. Not to mention our service and training. So we have to sell at sensible list prices, no more no less, if we want to keep providing the kind of products and service you expect from us”. Police Dogs of America

...The idea of the police dog is not uncommon among our communities, we know that they’re out there and we have a general idea of the responsibilities that these dogs carry; but in reality what do we really know about police dogs? Everyone has their own set of feelings towards the idea of the police dog. Some people are afraid, some are curious and some are oblivious to the fact that police dogs are out there and that they have a job. The question is what exactly is their job, what can they do, who trains them, where do they live? There is so much that is unknown by the general public. Dogs have been used for similar tasks through out time; whether their job was protection or tracking, dogs have been trained by man to perform specific tasks since the bond between man and canine was forged. It was only a matter of time before modern police forces came upon the idea of training and using these animals to better their forces. United States police dogs began service in 1907. They first hit the streets in New Jersey and New York City. These new units had a lot to learn so canine teams operated on a trial and error basis. Over the years these units gained valuable experience that lead to the development of new training methods and technology for today’s canine units. (Bryson 31). The idea of the police dog is not a single entity; the dog has to have a handler. The dog and handler together create the police dog team or more commonly referred to as a Canine Unit. The team begins with...

The Center of Disease Control and Prevention reported that over 4.6 million Americans are bitten each year and according to insurance companies the average dog bite claim is around $30,000. Ohio has made a list of dogs that are the most dangerous and vicious breeds. This list does not mean you chose the wrong breed or that your dog is necessarily a bad dog, it simply means to be more aware of the potential risk these breeds have to inflict serious injury on a person or other animals. The top 10 dangerous dog breeds on the Ohio list are listed below. 1. Pit bull 2. Rottweiler 3. German Shepherd 4. Husky 5. Alaskan Malamute 6. Doberman Pincher 7. Chow Chow 8. Great Dane 9. St. Bernard 10. Akita Ohio has a strict liability rule when it comes to dog bites. This is called the One Bite Rule. This means if your dog bites for the first time you are held liable. In Ohio if your dog bites, attacks, or harms someone in any way, you are required to register your dog as a “dangerous dog”. Most of the penalties you will face if your dog bites someone and you do not properly follow through with the requirements to restrain your dangerous dog are misdemeanors. While, if you dog kills someone after they have already bitten a person and you fail to follow the requirements then you can be charged with a fourth degree felony and your dog will be put down. Additionally, you may have to pay fines to the county and the injured person. The law has...

Essay Four

...ESSAY FOUR When someone asks for a list of the most dangerous dog breeds the first breeds that might come to mind would be the pit-bull, maybe the Rottweiler or Doberman. Those would be incorrect however. Believe it or not, there are more bites by lap dogs like the Shitsu, Yorkie than there are by some incorrectly labeled "aggressive" breeds. In studies the giant schnauzer took first place with the most incidents of bites followed closely by the Akita and Chow. As a general whole however we must remember that it is socialization, breeding and training that sculpt of a dog and its likelihood of incident rather than breed alone. I am dye hard animal lover especially for Pit-bulls and Bullmastiff breed. I cry when I see ASPCA television commercials. Having a three year old little girl and having a love for such big breed like the Mastiff and misunderstood pit-bull choosing the right breed to be around your children is very important. The question really is “What is the best dog for kids?” This is a common question, but there is no solid answer. In theory, almost any dog has the potential to get along great with children. One can speculate about which breeds “might” be best for kids, but you just never know how each individual dog will turn out. There are many factors that affect a dog’s ability to get along well with kids. Here are several things that you will need to keep in mind before you get a family dog. Obedience training is absolutely essential! Make sure someone in...

...another with the judge beyond earshot of the unseen jury located just below and out of the camera's frame. Nicole's neighbor, Pablo Fenives, testified about hearing a "very distinctive barking" and "plaintive wail" of a dog at around 10 to 15 minutes after 10:00 p.m. while he was at home watching the 10 o'clock news on his TV set. Eva Stein, another neighbor, testified about a very loud and persistent barking sound also at around 10:15 p.m. that kept her from going back to sleep. Neighbor Steven Schwab testified that while he was walking his dog in the area near Nicole's house at around 11:30 p.m., he noticed a wandering and agitated Akita dog (Nicole's) trailing its leash with bloody paws, which after examining, found the dog uninjured. Schwab told about taking the dog to another neighbor friend of his, Sukru Boztepe, who testified that he took the Akita dog into his home where the dog became more agitated. Boztepe took the dog for a walk at approximately 12:00 midnight and testified that the dog tugged on its leash and led him to Nicole's house. There he discovered Nicole Simpson's dead body. Minutes later, Boztepe flagged down a passing patrol car. The police officer, Robert Riske, was the first officer at the crime scene. He testified that he found a woman in a black dress, barefoot, and lying face down in a puddle of blood on the walkway that led to the front door of her house. Then he saw Goldman's body lying on its side beside a tree a short distance away off the walkway. Riske...

Pit Bull Terriers

...Pit Bull Terriers Bad Dogs or Bad People Pit bull terriers have the reputation of being the most aggressive, and dangerous dogs in the world. Various forms of media displaying injuries to people and animals caused by these canines are common. Sadly, because some of these dogs are aggressive and dangerous, they have all acquired a bad reputation. Those who know them may attribute a Pit bulls aggression to rearing or abuse but because of their reputation, most people think, as I did, that it is just because they are Pit bulls. However, stereotyping a breed is wrong and unfair, but, with all the negative publicity about them, it is an easy trap to fall in. Because of my children's interest, I needed to find out more about them, so I went to the internet, the humane society, and to homes of some of these dogs. There is a lot of negative information, but also many positive and surprising facts. With research and time, I now know them to be loving, loyal, and not aggressive when raised correctly. In the world of canines, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Center for Disease Control, the Humane Society of the United States and the University of Pennsylvania, develop a list from a collaboration of studies that they publish periodically of dog breeds that are considered the most aggressive by nature, in the world. In the past, the study was only for dogs over a certain expected adult weight due to the ability of the dogs to inflict damage because of...

...Ebola The 2014 Ebola was the largest epidemic virus in history, causing a colossal damage in the human body prolonging them to death. The notoriously deadly virus cause fearsome symptoms, the most prominent being high fever and massive internal bleeding. Ebola virus kills as many as 90 % of the people it infects. It is one of the viruses that is capable of causing hemorrhagic (bloody) fever. Ebola spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids. A cough from a sick person could infect someone who has been sprayed with saliva. This is why the virus has often been spread through the families and friends of infected persons: in the course of feeding, holding, or otherwise caring for them, family members and friends would come into close contact with such secretions. Dogs

...Domestic dogs inherited complex behaviors from their wolf ancestors, which would have been pack hunters with complex body language. These sophisticated forms of social cognition and communication may account for their trainability, playfulness, and ability to fit into human households and social situations, and these attributes have given dogs a relationship with humans that has enabled them to become one of the most successful species on the planet today.[22]:pages95-136 The dogs' value to early human hunter-gatherers led to them quickly becoming ubiquitous across world cultures. Dogs perform many roles for people, such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, protection, assisting police and military, companionship, and, more recently, aiding handicapped individuals. This impact on human society has given them the nickname "man's best friend" in the Western world. In some cultures, however, dogs are also a source of meat.[23][24] Early roles Wolves, and their dog descendants, would have derived significant benefits from living in human camps—more safety, more reliable food, lesser caloric needs, and more chance to breed.[25] They would have benefited from humans' upright gait that gives them larger range over which to see potential predators and prey, as well as color vision that, at least by day, gives humans better visual discrimination.[25] Camp dogs would also have benefitted from human tool use, as in bringing down larger prey and controlling fire for a range of purposes...
