Cruise Vacation or a Resort Vacation? Some people argue by asking the question, which is a better vacation? Is it a cruise vacation or an all- inclusive resort vacation? There are a lot of things that play a part in which is a better vacation; anything from food, activities, age of people to the price. My wife and I have taken both of these vacations in the past 12 months and will try to share our likes and dislikes. Some of the highlights are the same. They both have lots and lots of food. They both are full of fun with plenty to do and if you get bored, I would consider the experience your own fault. Our first cruise experience came with the opportunity to spend it with six other friends back in May of 2008. Carnival was the one we choose because people refer to it as a party boat (Cruise mates). If a person is looking for more of a party atmosphere, go with carnival. That is what we did and the reviews were correct. For a younger crowd; go in the spring or fall and for fewer days because kids are in school. Our first resort was nine days in Jamaica at an all inclusive Sandals Resort. The time was March 20th 2009 which was our honey moon. What makes Sandals the best place to spend your vacation, there is eight other locations over the island. People stayed at the less expensive location and played at all the rest which is included in the price. While everything is included in the price for the cruise; the drinks were extra. They offered what they call a fun pass. All extras were added to it like a credit card. Every time you turn around to get a drink we have to show this fun pass. On the resort, the drinks were all included in the price of the vacation. Drinks were offered 24/7 and included several swim up bars also. Lying out in the pool and swimming up to the bar for a drink was excellent. If we traveled to another resort that day, also included was their bars and everything they offered including the evening entertainment. The entertainment on the resort was small and more personal. One reason was because there are less people on the resort. The resorts used local people and they mingled with the crowd which made it more personal. One of the great shows happened during the beach party where they had a local blow fire (Sandals). Almost every show they involved the guests in the program and gave out prizes. Prizes were given on the cruise also. During bingo for example; they gave very nice prizes such as a free cruises and lots of cash. The entertainment was very professional with high quality actors during shows. They were more like productions such as a Broad Way but a step up in quality and performed with more class. Shows and entertainment were done most of the time during the evening and late nights.
But during the day, on the cruise, it was spent relaxing and lying on the top deck sunning our selves. There was always plenty of music playing with waiters coming to the guess giving it some great atmosphere. The resorts didn’t have much atmosphere. We had to go to the bar for a drink while on the cruise they came to us. The difference was on the resort the drinks were included in the price where on the cruise they were not. The relaxing was the same but the location wasn’t. On the resort we sat in real sand in front of the ocean and get up and take a dip in the salt water anytime we liked. A great option was spending time at the other eight resort locations to take in the different sights and beaches. Then take a break and head for a sail boat ride for thirty minutes or so. Or sit and read a book to spend the day relaxing in the sun. Sitting in the sun was just as relaxing on the cruise but it was clean with no sand to sift through. Everything was close to the bath rooms, bars, and food stands. But we were stuck on the boat. We couldn’t just get up and explore the island anytime we wanted or take a dip in the ocean. While we could get up and take a dip in the pool from time to time there was lots of atmosphere on the boat. Very upbeat, load music and lights everywhere down the halls in the lounges and on the decks as well as the jogging track and the 200 foot water slide (Iglu Cruise). Also during the day there was fashion shows, how to buy real jewelry, wellness, and fitness classes. The gym has modern equipment with trainers on site. The resort has out dated equipment with no A/C where the cruise did. There was gambling for those people that enjoyed that kind of entertainment that was open 24 hours a day. There was food 20 hours a day on the resort but the best part was more options for evening dining. Several choices of restaurants were from Asian Crusine to Italian. They could be chosen from any of the resorts in any location. We could make reservations any day at any time we wanted. They were formal with most right by the water and we ate our dinner as we watched the sun go down. The resort even gave an upscale benefit dinner for returning guesses. This was for an appreciating meal with an evening of entertainment. All the dinners had some of the world’s best views of the sun sets. There wasn’t a sun set to be viewed during evening dinning on the ship. Dining was done in the same room at the same time each day. Although, if we didn’t eat in the formal dining room; we could eat from the buffet on the top deck. The food was very delicious and was better than the resorts. One of the high lights on the resort was the deserts. There were chocolate fountains with all the fruit you wanted as you dipped into hot chocolate. The display of fruits and deserts were fabulous. The breakfast was also, have omelets make to your liking and all the fresh fruit. The orange juice was the best we have tasting juice anywhere in the world. Breakfast could be served to our rooms during either vacation with a fee added. The rooms on the boat were very small. Depending on what you paid; we could even have a window or a balcony looking over the ocean from the ship (Cruise Web). My room was from the back of the ship. It was very nice spending some time in the evening during the time the sun was going down. Some evenings there were beautiful sun sets. Most of the time it was just nice to sit and listen to the water splash from the rear and side of the ship. There is just something about hearing water splash. It gives that relaxing sensation. After hearing the relaxation of the water; it prepared us for a great nights rest. The beds were offered with feather pillows with down comforters and air conditioning. Although the rooms were small, they were very comfortable. The resort offered larger rooms with the same commendations. They did offer a double sink with a large Jacuzzi tub where the cruise was more like a camper type. The maids on the cruise spent several times making up our beds each and every day. They made up animals from the towels and displayed them in the room too. The maids on the resort made the bed in the morning and turned down the covers in the evening while we were at dinner. They would decorate the room with several fresh flowers which was a very nice touch of romance. We spent some of our time on the internet emailing family and friend’s our photos and interesting memories we were making. That service was only $38 for the week on the resort while on the boat it was very expensive. The cost was over $100 for the week. Another expensive part of either vacation was the excursions. They are mini trips that were taken. Both vacations had them and were priced about the same. The cruise didn’t have as much to offer. There wasn’t much time spent on each Island to plan out these visits other than book them through the ship. The cost is a lot higher booking them through the ship then booking them our selves directly with the local people. One nice thing about the resort; we searched on the internet what to do and then hired a taxi for the day. Taken our time and went where ever we pleased. There wasn’t a time line for when we had to be back. For an example, when the boat had to leave. One day we went to Dunn’s River Falls (Jamaica Tours). Took our time and enjoyed it. Spend the noon hour at the resort next door for lunch. Relaxed in the sun for a short time and then off to the next thing on our list to do. Another day we spent our day headed to the opposite end of the island near Negril, which was a more rich part of Jamaica. We even decided the night before what we were going to do unlike the boat, it had to be planned ahead of time because of the availability. We spent it traveling and stopping where it seemed interesting. What was interesting on the resort island isn’t always interesting on the cruise excursion. There isn’t time to explore. We had a deadline to be back on the ship so we just booked the excursion direct since there were time slots and the taxi was included in the deal. But one interesting thing was; on a cruise we got to visit five islands where on the resort we only had the one island we were staying at. But the good thing about a resort is we spent more time exploring everywhere instead of just a small piece. One small piece of each island we experienced was the shopping. We got to see all the different cultures of shopping that each island had to offer. One island had all kinds of jewelry while Jamaica had only hand carved crafts to offer. We love some of the fine jewelry and had a great time checking out all the shops that had it for sale while on our cruise. As you can see there are a lot of seminaries and differences on each of these vacations. About the only big differences is; if you’re a drinker, then the resort may be a better choice. If you’re not; then a cruise may be more suitable for you. That is when you are looking at just the cost. Personally we enjoyed both of them. They both have lots of different views and different types of pleasures to enjoy. So I would recommend that you take both vacations so you can decide for yourself which one is better for you. Our next vacation is more of an upscale cruise. We are headed for the eastern Caribbean again but on a Royal Caribbean Oasis of the seas cruise ship this time. From the ocean-side seating of the Aqua Theater to the green landscape of Central Park (cruise critic). This ship is one of two largest ships ever. It holds 5,400 passengers on this 220,000 ton ship. We truly may have to rethink this question, “which is better, a cruise vacation or a resort vacation”?

Should Ebooks Take over?

...Yelyzaveta Tymchenko Dale Williams English 1020-101 July 4, 2013 Should e-books Take Over? In the current world, it is hard to see people with paper books in their hands. But people with smart phones, PC’s and other technological innovations can be seen in every place. Is it true that nobody is reading paper books in the world anymore? Some people say that e-books are more ecological and useful because there is no need to waste paper. However, others have a different opinion, and think that nothing can replace traditional books. Some people argue that there is no need in paper books anymore, while others people argue that there is need in paper books, and that it is more beneficial than e-books. There are two main words that need to be defined: traditional books and e-books. Today, most of the people are familiar with the term book. On a daily basis humans are using books for information, studying, researching or just for reading during their leisure time. A book is defined by Oxford dictionary as “a written or printed work consisting of pages glued or sewn together on one edge and bound in covers”. It is a literary composition that is published or intended for publication as such a work (Oxford dictionary). Also, the term book can be referred to some literature works. In science a book can be called a magazine, journal or newspaper. However, as society grows everything is starting to improve, for example different technologies and even knowledge about certain things. ...

...No one will argue that good writing requires not only knowledge of subject - it requires specific "writing" skills, which are not so easy to master. No one ever claimed that everyone has to be a writer in full sense, yet contemporary students feel pretty much like this, with all the load of papers and essays to write overnight or by "the end of the week". For sure, education is a must and the way to it is not paved with roses, still the only thought seems to plague the minds of learners today - who might write my essay, or write my paper, or save me from this burden, in other words. Young people have to study, definitely so, yet sometimes we all need time with family or just time to be alone and refresh our minds and energy, but the growing speed of life does not provide us with such luxury. Now it is time to change the situation. Our company has relatively long and totally successful history of catering to the students' needs in terms of demands like "write my essay", "write my paper" or "help me write my essay". We deal in the widest possible range of topics and provide papers of all academic levels - from school to PhD theses. We offer expertise, integrity, punctuality and more that moderate prices, which makes us perhaps the best company in the field (it is not an exaggeration, rather statement of the fact). If you wreck your brains with the questions "Who can write my essay for me?", or "Who can write my paper for me (term paper, or coursework, or something else)?", then...

...course began was to improve my writing skills. My writing skills were very poor, I lacked a lot of knowledge on how to cite essays, how to research correctly, and how to organize an essay. English, being my second language has also influenced significantly on my writing, which sometimes can be difficult for me to write a paper that makes sense. Some of the processes I followed in this course were first, apply all the tips that my instructor provided to do a good research, and all the steps to organize a thesis, body paragraphs including the quotations, supported by evidence, and an explanation of the meaning of each quote, lastly, restating all the main points of the body paragraph to write a good and concise conclusion. All the steps previously mentioned helped me make a good use of my source material and make the message of my essays very effective. The audience of an essay is fundamental for the message to be successfully conveyed; therefore, it is also important to take consideration of the audience that the essays are directed to. My audience consisted of mainly, my instructor and my peers. Some of the considerations regarding my audience were to state or argue my positions with respect supported by valid evidence while also stating other points of view that the audience may agree on, or different insights on the issues or topics being discussed. For instance, in the assignment of the Sam Sheppard murder case, not only did I state my position, analyzing all the information found...

Anne Lamott's Shitty First Draft

...In the article “Shitty First Drafts” the author Anne Lamott’s’ main argument is that first drafts are not meant to be perfect but a representation of random exquisite ideas that you will like to incorporate on your final draft. Lamott provides a strategy that can help writers begin their ideas in a faster and easier way than trying to produce a perfect first draft that can be sensed as stressful. First drafts become essential to create a good piece of writing she argues that every good writer no matter how talented he or she is, is subjected to write first drafts that will shape the course of their writing. As stated in the article, “All good writers write them, this is how they end up with good drafts and terrific third drafts.” It is important to take into consideration her...

Reflective Essay Analysis

...In writing my synthesis paper as well as the reflection done in week 9 discussion I have modified and refined my writing style as well as my approach to this essay to get a successful outcome. My goals for where this essay is going to go has definitely changed from what I want to present and argue. This mentality has come from the commentary given to me by the other students to push my ideas further, to develop the basic idea of my essay and maturing it into a more creative realm. For the drafting aspect of the paper I have begun constructing the bare bones of the paper, outlining what I want to discuss in the paper, how I want to present it, self-workshopping the body paragraphs and transitions, as well as composing a well thought out thesis that encapsulates all of my ideas into one argument. I have been going through my annotated...

English 101

...that the college level class would be the death of me. As I read over the syllabus for this class it states that we will learn to understand writing assignments as a series of tasks and develop flexible strategies for generating, revising, editing, and proof-reading the assigned papers. I shuddered at the sheer thought of having to write five papers. Narrative, Evaluation, Profile, Position. These words might as well have been written in another language because I had no idea how to differentiate between them. Despite my fears, I believe this semester’s English 101 course has truly helped me develop my writing skills and advance to a more capable writer. Throughout my life English has always been my most difficult subject. Even back in elementary school I would have 100 percent averages in all of my other classes except English. I do not know what it was that challenged me so much but I had a terrible time. With the start of my high school career coincided the beginning of my paper writing experiences. I would work for hours each day trying my best to write a paper that made sense and would flow smoothly between paragraphs. My countless hours of work, however, never seemed to pay off. Every single paper that I had returned to me from my teachers was always covered in bright red Sharpie marker, usually with a large “B” circled somewhere on the front. The words “hard to follow” were...

My Writing Reflection

...I face a lot of challenges when it comes to creating an acceptable paper. I have a negative outlook on my writing, I write a lot of cliche things, fragment sentences are my weakness, my vocabulary is poor, and I over think what is wanted from what I write. Struggling with this introduction, for instance, is one of my major weaknesses. A lot more work goes into it than there seems. I have to think “Did I capture the attention? Does my audience know where I’m going with this paper? Is it enough to make them curious to read more?” In the beginning of the semester, my introduction basically went straight into the paper like it was the first body paragraph. It was a confusing surprise. I’ve since worked on my introductions so they give more explanation toward the overall reason for the paper. Even if it’s not the best you’ve ever read, I’m more aware of why it’s not and that there are ways to strengthen it. I’d like to believe because of how self-aware I...

Shitty First Draft Analysis

...Anne Lamott’s “Shitty First Drafts” is an excerpt from her book, Bird by Bird (1994), where she argues to let go of the anxieties and fears of creating a masterpiece paper right away by simply writing without question in order to get all of your thoughts out first. She refers to this style of writing to one of a child’s while also reminding the reader to just freely write knowing that no one else will be seeing this initial draft. It’s clear Lamott wants to connect with her readers and help ease any worries when it comes to writing because even the most popular and well known journalists or authors all go through the same thoughts and process as well. Her style of writing shows she is intending this piece for students or anyone involved in writing, whether for school, career, or a hobby. I find Lamott’s argument very persuasive and was moved by her style and dictation. It is comforting to know that...

Chinese Inventions

...inventions and wonderful contributions are timeless. Items such as toilet paper, tooth brush, fork, and the calendar year are used every day and can practically be found in every household. While there are a variety of inventions the Chinese have made, to me, their extraordinary contributions to the society are paper, printing, gun powder, and compass because they have made a huge impact on the entire globe. To begin, I must say, many different items that were used before paper was invented: bamboo silk, papyrus, and parchment. However, these items were not without problems associated with their usage. There were varying degrees of surface smoothness, expense, preservation, and storage requirements. By 105 BC Cai Lun overcame many of the limitations by inventing a new writing medium known as paper from bark, hemp, and rags. During this time, the raw materials could be found easily and at lower prices compared to former methods. Essentially, this contribution helped the development of civilization. Another useful invention to come out of China was printing. The first form of “printing on paper” came from rubbings. The process consisted of smoothing a piece of paper with a brush, the paper was then carefully coaxed into the depressions, and afterwards left to dry with a fan. Anything from important decrees, texts, scriptures, poems, and pictures were inscribed on wood, bronze, and stone then copies were made on paper for distribution. Amazingly, centuries after this invention was created...

...loved; so, I was able to simply formulate in depth explanations. Although these strengths were a major asset to my essay, I have some weaknesses that affected my essay in a negative way. My major weakness is that I usually write how I talk. I began writing with no clear thoughts which consisted of sticking a lot of unnecessary words and using poor vocabulary while trying to put my thoughts on paper. Another thing that I had a major problem with was trying to make all my thoughts come together. In previous English classes, I was always taught to make an outline or get a rough idea of what I was writing about and then start writing it; however, for this essay it was completely different. Usually I would start writing an essay from beginning to end. I have never written an essay in this order, and it was a new way of thinking that I was not accustomed to. This caused me the most problems because I had limited time to adjust to this writing style. Writing it out of order caused me many more complications than I would normally have; therefore, it took me longer than expected to get my words down on paper and make them all flow.
