...Being constantly told that you are more special than you actually are, will in the end create an arrogant and isolated individual. At least that is what happens to the protagonist Nick, in the short story Back to Front from 2003 by Nicola Barker. Throughout his childhood, Nick’s mother, Grace was fussing about him - spoiling him even - slowly convincing him that he was in fact special and deserved special treatment. His mother justifies this with the fact that the doctors took the new-born Nick away from her, to examine him while she was left with her own thoughts, imagining the worst. Nick was taken away because the doctors were unable of hearing his heartbeat, even though the new-born appeared healthy and alive in every other way. The doctors found Nick to have a quite extraordinary condition; his insides were back to front. Throughout the short story Nick is primarily described through his relations to others, as if he doesn’t matter or even exist on his own. In a way this applies to everyone; our relations define us as people. Right from the beginning of his life, Nick’s mother had defined him as a very special boy. He grew accustomed to the special treatment and expected it from his peers as well when he began in school. Nick however, did not appear special, and so the other children took him for being conceited, and next thing he knew, Nick’s social life was limited to his family. Yet not even here could he find the attention he had grown so dangerously addicted to, for...

...Management From: Chitra Arivalagan (770099290) To: Dr. Maria Nathan Writing Assignment-1 Strategic Design at Dynacorp 1. If you were on the Dynacorp task force, what would be your first choice for an alternative design? What would be your second choice?. Answer: If I am on the Dynacorp task force, my first choice for an alternative design would be front /back structure of strategic design. This structure divides the organization into two parts such that the back end products which include engineering, manufacturing and the logistics and the front end is faced by the marketing and sales division. As Dynacorp is spread across the US and as well as the world, this front/back structure will also support the various divisions spread across the globe. Each country where Dynacorp wants to expand itself can have its marketing and sales division and the manufacturing division can be located in a country where the production costs would be as lower as possible. This would be an advantage by lowering the production costs and increasing the profit of Dynacorp. The marketing division, which becomes the back end of the structure, can address the various issues faced by the Dynacorp, with one major issue of handling the change from dealing with the direct customers to the consulting firms with special practices in ITC. This can be coordinated with the engineering and the production divisions, which in turn spread across the globe. With the advancement in the information exchange...

...interviews I passed onto the corporate interview phase where I interview with major companies like IBM and AT&T. During the interviews I learned about both positions and at the time, Project Management/Frond End Developer and Software Engineer both sounded like good positions. I know long term I wanted to do something with mobile application development so the contribution of both positions would put me closer to my goals. After my interview I was offered positions at both companies so of course I had to decide between the two. With a five day grace period a decision had to be made quickly. Being a Software Engineer would provide me with the skills I needed to do mobile application development on the back end, in other words, “coding”. The role of a Front End Developer or Project Manager would assist me in developing the user interface or user experience of mobile applications. It would also help me learn the different methodologies and approaches to application development. The position at IBM would require me to move to Durham, NC and the position at AT&T required me to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia. If I took the position in either place I would have to sublease a home for the summer. This would mean I needed to...

In our opinion, Grey should not rely on Grey Worldwide’s brand equity to make sales and retain existing customers. It’s because the ability to rely on traditional forms of differentiation for competitive advantage. ...Jenna Blamowski EN 110 Mr. Chojnacki Front tuck flip vs. Back tuck flip Some things can be compared and contrasted very well because they have a good amount of similarities and differences. A front tuck flip and a back tuck flip are very good examples. You can tell just by their names that they have similarities and differences. The first words “front” and “back” give away the first variation between the two. But, the endings “tuck flip” on both make it clear that there does exist conformity. A tuck flip is the most basic flip someone can perform. In any acrobatic sport, it has the lowest degree of difficulty. The first comparison one can see is the position that the flip is executed in. A tuck is a body position in which one’s knees are “tucked” into their chest. The hands are gripping just below the knee and the chin is brought in towards the neck. The shape resembles a ball, so it makes the flip happen faster. The front and back tuck flip will be done as so. The next step is the jump that one does in order to complete the flip. This is how you come off of the surface, and it brings us to our first contrast. The front tuck flip begins with feet flat and shoulder width apart on the floor, trampoline, etc. Arms should be up next to your ears and eyes looking straight forward. You will squat down for the jump but not too far. Legs should not be all the way at a ninety degree angle but close to. Also make sure your knees do not surpass your toes or else you will be projecting...

...customization into service system decoupling to deal with the operation dilemma and then reveals the nature of decoupling decisions for mass customization purpose after discussions on the importance of modularization and the role of technologies including IT in the decoupling process. Based on these analyses, a Judgment-Matrix-based model on how to make the decoupling decisions in balancing the multiple operation objectives is then proposed and further research directions are finally suggested. Keywords: Mass Customization, System Decoupling, Customer Contact, Modularization 1. Introduction System decoupling is an effective approach to cope with the influences caused by customer contact by dividing the service system into two components: back-stage and front-stage. However the relevant researches often take a dichotomous perspective, assuming that the objectives of service operations focus on either efficiency (costs and related issues) or services (customization and responsiveness). Mass customization (MC) has been regarded as an innovative way of doing business by putting together these seemly contradictory operation objectives and...
