What Are The Similarities Between Kant And Mill's Ethical Dilemma

...Considering the case at hand the situation is really a difficult and complicated one. The doctor has two options left with him. He can either wrongfully use the organs of the pizza delivery guy to save the lives of his five patients or he can just let the pizza delivery guy leave after delivering the pizza without causing any harm to him and thereby, letting his patient stay in the critical condition. This situation calls for an ethical analysis and in this regard the ethical theories of Kant and Mill should be brought under light to justify the action, which can be called appropriate on the part of the doctor. If I had been the doctor I would have considered both the ethical theories of Kant and Mill. I would have first considered the ethics...

How Does Golding Present Evil In Lord Of The Flies

...good because there are no rules to follow and people get to do whatever one chooses to do, and a side effect of evil is power. Power then corrupts the brain into thinking people need it, then people just want more and more. All because of evil, respect then comes from fear, power comes from respect. Golding shows how evil and power is what corrupts the brains of the children on the island which makes them do horrible things that cause fear in the children. Evil is easy and because people get to do whatever they want, rules are the only things that contain evil within us and keep us human, Evil...

Social Issue

...practitioners. Although there are many conflicting ideas on how the economy downturn affects crime rates, it is reasonable to study how crime rates have varied in the past and recent years. Taking a closer look at the current economy trend in the United States, both federal and state budgets have been affected as well as individuals. Many people have been laid off their jobs because the state cannot allocate money for them to be paid. Hence, many such people look for other means to raise money for survival including property theft and other related crimes. It is therefore convenient to say that more people are willing to commit crime in a declining economy so as to meet their daily needs, though it could be a difficult hypothesis to test. Bad economics leads to property theft and robberies as criminals steal items they cannot afford. Since 2008, there has been an increase recession in the United States as said by data from police records. However, the FBI in 2010 release records of a drop in violent crimes but not property theft and robberies. This can be seen on the media reports and even major adverts on the streets such as bus stops where a particular figure is been put up on the board as wanted. Another example can be seen in such stores as the gas station where usually a printed picture of an individual is shown as wanted. Usually, people arrested for committing robbery crimes are mostly jobless. For example, statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistic shows that, since...

Multicultural Literature Anasysis

...Multicultural Literature Analysis Amanda Hinton Prof. David McCarthy 06/29/2015 Multicultural Literature The word multicultural is self-explanatory; when added with the word literature, a whole new range of possibilities are available. Not only does it cover multiple cultures around the world, but it gives a connection between the author and the reader so that a vivid image of that culture is portrayed for the reader. The author gives them the opportunity to see a different culture through the eyes of someone who is from that culture, or has had personal experience with the culture. Authors from different cultures also gives the reader an inside look of what historical events impacted them the most and what they felt while they were experiencing it. Multicultural literature used in education would not only give people the opportunity of learning about a historical event from their cultures point of view, but they would also get the chance to learn about it from the personal experience that the authors from those cultures endured. Stories like The Lemon Orchard by Alex La Guma and Once Upon a Time by Nadine Gordimer gives the reader a more personal view of how their cultures endured during the historic Apartheid Movement. Other stories like Dead Men’s Path by Chinua Achebe and Or Else, the Lightning God by Catherine Lim gives readers an inside view of what other cultures experienced when the changing of the times came. Then there are stories like Good Girls Are Bad News by Subhadra...

Lawrence was born in England and wrote this story to demonstrate issues with men and women that are in relationships. 3. Theme: The main theme that is being expressed throughout the short story is that absolute power corrupts humans. The little boy, Paul, had the power to guess who would win the next horse race and it is because of this, he was able to gain lots of money. It would only after he had gained all this money that he began to realize that this was not the right thing to be done. 4. Summary of the Selection: The story begins with the narration of Paul’s mom. She is a beautiful woman with many features, yet she does not have any luck. The reason why she had no luck was because she married someone who was unlucky. It was because of this unluckiness that she was unable to bring in a sufficient source of income to tend to her children. Paul then began to realize that he himself had luck, and that the more he rode on a horse of his, the more he was able to guess which horse would win the next derby or race. As time progressed in the novel, he began to become unlucky and this unluckiness was eating him alive. Soon he was barley able to function or better yet even think. As the story comes to an end he dies because of uncertainty. 5. ...THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA Ernest Hemingway The Old Man and the Sea is the story of an epic struggle between an old, seasoned fisherman and the greatest catch of his life. For eighty-four days, Santiago, an aged Cuban fisherman, has set out to sea and returned empty-handed. So conspicuously unlucky is he that the parents of his young, devoted apprentice and friend, Manolin, have forced the boy to leave the old man in order to fish in a more prosperous boat. Nevertheless, the boy continues to care for the old man upon his return each night. He helps the old man tote his gear to his ramshackle hut, secures food for him, and discusses the latest developments in American baseball, especially the trials of the old man’s hero, Joe DiMaggio. Santiago is confident that his unproductive streak will soon come to an end, and he resolves to sail out farther than usual the following day. Character List Santiago - The old man of the novella’s title, Santiago is a Cuban fisherman who has had an extended run of bad luck. Ending Poverty

...Audience Analysis My Targeted audience I want to center around for this would be men and women who are interested in knowing and understanding more about poverty, food stamps, etc. Who either are in poverty or are not, and with high school education and up. When it comes to poverty, I feel each year more and more families are in crisis and in need. However I also feel some people are getting government funding help who, in reality, do not need it. I am not saying everyone who is receiving help does not actually need it, but there are people out there who if they put in more effort, they wouldn’t have to depend on government assisted help nor would be struggling day to day. I have not been in a situation where I myself needed help, however I do know some people who are truly needed help and received yet, as well as others who honestly did not need the help but did not want to work hard. I am hoping my paper shows both the good and bad of today’s situation with people struggling, and hopefully some readers will have changed opinions on this whether it be good or bad. My Paper is written in APA format. Ending Poverty One Meal at a Time After reading the article “On the Edge of Poverty” by Sheryl Gay Stolberg[->0], it’s realized that it was written from a point of view that shows the many down falls of a situation where a SNAP card is needed yet doesn’t point much at improving it. In many ways it supports the food stamp system, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance...

Sociology

...societies’. Functionalists maintain that there are two main reasons why crime is found in all societies. Firstly not everyone is equally effectively socialised into the shared norms and values thus some individuals are prone to deviate. In addition to this, in complex modern societies there is a diversity of lifestyle because different groups develop their own cultural norms and values what each subculture see as normal, mainstream culture may see as deviant. For example; in parts of Africa polygamy is allowed where as in mainstream western culture it is illegal. Durkheim’s develops this further and maintains that in modern societies there is a tendency towards anomie this is due to the rules governing behaviour have become weaker and less clear-cut because of the specialised division of labour modern societies have, that leads to individuals becoming increasingly different to one another therefore not all the rules are seen to be applicable to each individual in...

Summary of as You Like It

...Rowland de Boys has recently died, leaving behind sons Oliver and Orlando. Since Oliver's the eldest son, he's inherited just about everything. This includes the responsibility of making sure his little bro finishes school and continues to live the kind of lifestyle he's become accustomed to as the son of a nobleman. (By the way, this lifestyle looks like a sixteenth-century version of MTV's Teen Cribs.) Oliver, however, treats his little bro like a servant – he refuses to pay for Orlando's education and never gives the kid any spending money. Also, he tells the local court wrestler it would be a good idea to snap Orlando's neck, but Orlando doesn't know about this. Naturally, Orlando is ticked off that Oliver treats him so badly and he's ready to "mutiny" against his older bro. Instead, he channels all of his pent up anger into a wrestling match, where he beats the court wrestler to a bloody pulp. Orlando's wrestling skillz catch the eye of a local girl named Rosalind, who has her own family drama to worry about. (Ros is the daughter of Duke Senior, who used to rule over the French court but was overthrown by his snaky, backstabbing brother, Duke Frederick. Because Rosalind's dad is living in exile in the Forest of Arden, Rosalind has been crashing at the palace with her BFF/cousin, Celia. Did we mention that Celia is the daughter of snaky, backstabbing Duke Frederick? And you thought your family had issues…) Rosalind thinks Orlando is the dreamiest boy she's ever laid...

...The website that I chose for my analysis is Forever21.com. The foreever21 site is a online store that sells clothing for girls and boys, accessories , plus sizes, shoes. This site also has a blog (The Now Blog) that lets you access fashion, summer events and beauty. This site is pretty well known and when you search for clothing stores this site is on the first page. Immediately upon entering the website you are hit with the products at hand. The navigation seems to be easy for a customer to browse through the site. When I was navigating through the site I realize that it did not have a home shortcut, so you had to use the back button. So, I would change that about the site, the other shortcuts where linked together like we learned in dream weaver. I liked that about the site. When I stated in our capstone question I thought the colors where okay. Now that I go back and look it has to much white in it. I think I would add a little color to it so it is easier on the customers eyes. The font size could be a little larger for me. I would make them a couple of sizes larger for the older customers who can’t see that well. I did like the graphics they are nice and clear to see. I do like that you have a quick view of the product and it shows you different sides of the product. You can click onto another link, but if you want to go back to home you have to hit the back button. Adding products to your cart is pretty simple just click on product and it adds it...

According to Maslow's Need Hierarchy Theory of Motivation there is an art to motivating stair-step process to accomplish the motivation. Co-workers a great motivational alternative to huge extravagant program can be taken seriously coming from what employees feel is someone “feeling their pain.” We all know that being appreciated at work always puts a smile on your face. Management changes a lot in the call center atmosphere with turnovers, shift changes every 2 – 3 months, and of course meeting the unreachable standards to get that maximum incentive pay. One experiences many bad managers who even when hey give compliments it still doesn't make you feel good. On our team if the management was a one we became our own support and motivational system by being there for each other in our job and personal lives. When we changed shifts/managers there would always be a survey that was required to be taken about your manager no matter how they scored nothing was ever done about our lack of motivation problems. We began to stick together give each other our own appreciation for good deeds or hard work, figuring out what each others interests within our workplace. We had specific people on our team who would take supervisor calls, because they were interested...
