Erupting Snow Recipe
Posted by Crystal Underwood I am super excited to share this new sensory recipe today! Rosie had so much fun with this activity. We took our Sparkle Snow recipe and slightly altered it to get MAGIC SNOW! This was completely experimental, and the results were fabulous!
Make Your Own Sensory Snow

Follow Growing a Jeweled Rose on Pinterest and Facebook for tons of kids activities.
Let me start by saying that this sensory material is AMAZING even without the magical erupting aspect. It is the best sensory snow we have ever tried. It is naturally cold, making it the most realistic as well. It is fluffy and powdery and clean smelling and AMAZING! You also only need TWO INGREDIENTS to make it ; baking soda and shaving cream -two things most people already have on hand!

To make your own Snow:

Add the desired amount of baking soda to a sensory bin or container. Then, slowly mix in shaving cream. I used one large box of baking soda and almost a full can of shaving foam. As you slowly mix in the shaving cream you will discover a fantastic mold-able snow. The snow is super soft, silky smooth, and smells so clean and fresh. It is also naturally cold. I am not sure why exactly but it is! It feels just like fresh fallen powder in your hands.

Playing with the snow just like this is LOTS of FUN! Rosie added glitter just for fun but it isn't necessary of course. She had a blast making snow balls and snow men for a while.

Then I surprised her with the magical aspect of the snow. I gave her a spray bottle of vinegar and she had a blast makingMAGIC SNOWBALLS!

She also loved making the snowmen she made erupt!

Then she dropped a few snowballs in a bowl of vinegar to make a snow avalanche and huge snow ERUPTIONS!

This ERUPTING Snow is just too fun! With or without the vinegar it makes a fabulous sensory snow! Now that we have created this recipe I don't think we will be making Sparkle snow again- this stuff is just that cool!

Mans

...The Moose and the Sparrow Hugh Garner From the very beginning Moose Maddon picked on him. The kid was bait for all of Maddon's cruel practical jokes around the camp. He was sent back to the tool-house for left-handed saws, and down to the office to ask the pay cheater if the day's mail was in, though the rest of us knew it was only flown out every week. The kid's name was Cecil, and Maddon used to mouth it with a simpering mockery, as if it pointed to the kid being something less than a man. I must admit though that the name fitted him, for Cecil was the least likely lumberjack I've seen in over twenty-five years in lumber camps. Though we knew he was intelligent enough, and a man too, if smaller than most of us, we all kidded him, in the good natured way a bunkhouse gang will. Maddon however always lisped the kid's name as if it belonged to a woman. Moose Maddon was as different from Cecil as it is possible for two human beings to be and still stay within the species. He was a big moose of a man, even for a lumber stiff, with a round flat unshaven face that looked down angrily and dourly at the world. Cecil on the other hand was hardly taller than an axe-handle, and almost as thin. He was about nineteen years old, with the looks of an inquisitive sparrow behind his thick horn-rimmed glasses. He had been sent out to the camp for the summer months by an distant relative who had a connection with the head office down in Vancouver. That summer we were cutting big stuff in...

Summertime

...My mother and I were at the dry cleaner’s, standing behind a woman we had never seen. “A nice-looking woman,” my mother would later say. “Well put together. Classy.” The woman was dressed for the season in a light cotton shift patterned with oversize daisies. Her shoes matched the petals and her purse, which was black-and-yellow striped, hung over her shoulder, buzzing the flowers like a lazy bumblebee. She handed in her claim check, accepted her garments, and then expressed gratitude for what she considered to be fast and efficient service. “You know,” she said, “people talk about Raleigh but it isn’t really true, is it?” The Korean man nodded, the way you do when you’re a foreigner and understand that someone has finished a sentence. He wasn’t the owner, just a helper who’d stepped in from the back, and it was clear he had no idea what she was saying. “My sister and I are visiting from out of town,” the woman said, a little louder now, and again the man nodded. “I’d love to stay awhile longer and explore, but my home, well, one of my homes is on the garden tour, so I’ve got to get back to Williamsburg.” I was eleven years old, yet still the statement seemed strange to me. If she’d hoped to impress the Korean, the woman had obviously wasted her breath, so who was this information for? “My home, well, one of my homes”; by the end of the day my mother and I had repeated this line no less than fifty times. The garden tour was unimportant, but the first part...

Gone Home

...GONE HOME IS THE STORY EXPLORATION GAME YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR by Becky Chambers | 2:45 pm, August 16th, 2013       2     Share on Tumblr It’s just a house. That’s all the game is, a house full of receipts and cups and boxes of tissues. Mundane and ordinary. You can walk around the house. You can pick things up, turn them over. You can paw around drawers and cupboards. You are alone. You are unguided. You can take all the time you need. There’s a lot to uncover in Gone Home, the inaugural title by indie studio The Fullbright Company. Love, loneliness, secrets, desperation, sexual identity, growing up, acting out — it’s all there, hidden under beds and shoved into closets. I saw my childhood in there, and my adulthood, too, and the messy, complicated things I feel toward my family. It left me feeling raw, and clean, and quiet. It’s just a house. It made me cry.  The year is 1995, and twenty year old Katie has just returned home from a year abroad. Not that the house is a home she knows. Her parents moved while she was away, and the house is as unfamiliar to Katie as it is to the player — after all, you are one and the same. No one is there to greet you. The door is locked. The house is empty. The only acknowledgment you are given is a note written by your younger sister, Sam. She apologizes for not being there. She asks that you not go digging around for answers. She says she’ll see you again one day. And that’s it. There’s no quest log, no directions, no arrow...

Why? Because.

...should Ed Sheeran pick me to be his girlfriend you ask? Well, obviously it’s because we have so much in common, but if you don’t know either of us very well, fret not, I shall explain it to you. Firstly, Ed and I would be a great couple because I am his ultimate fan. There is no doubt that I know everything about him, and appreciate him more than anyone else. I know Ed’s entire history, from when he was a street performer up until today. A close friend and I run an instagram account dedicated to the Sheerio fandom. The term “sheerio” is what you would refer to as a hardcore Ed Sheeran fan. Everyday we post pictures of him and write a nice message about Ed or quote part of a song that he’s written. This is proof of the extensive knowledge I have about Ed, and the commitment I have to him. Secondly, Ed and I would be a fantastic couple because I play the ukulele and he plays the guitar (amongst other instruments), so we would be able to spend time writing songs together. This is beneficial to him because he would be able to spend time writing songs for work, whilst spending time with his girlfriend. If we were to have true feelings for each other, I could be his muse. As every genuine sheerio knows, he writes a lot of his songs based on the people in his life. More often than not they are love songs, and I would be thrilled if he wrote them about me. Thirdly, Ed and I would be an amazing couple because on March 7th, 2015 at the AEG Mercedes-Benz Live arena we said our ‘I love...

Die Because It's Time and Not Because There Is a Line.

...Renata Libertuci de Orio. College Prep – Tuesdays and Thursdays. March 15th 2012. DIE BECAUSE IT IS TIME AND NOT BECAUSE THERE IS A LINE. One of people’s greatest fears in life is death and this fear only gets bigger when people think that to try to prevent an early death, or even to die having a little comfort and knowing that you did everything you could, it will cost a lot of money, especially if you are in the United States. That is probably why people do everything they can to have health insurance, which is monthly paid and kind of expensive, but unfortunately, that is not enough because when you need to see a doctor or go to a hospital, it is charged an extra fee. It is written in the Human Rights “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services…” If health care is that much important, shouldn’t it have universal coverage within the United States? If going to the hospital wasn’t so expensive people would take better care of their health. I have seen a lot of people not going to the doctor, myself included, just because it is expensive. Of course, in some occasions it can be impossible, depending on what kind of accident you had or pain you are feeling. However, most people don’t seek for a doctor if they consider their symptoms transient. It is hard to imagine myself going to the doctor every time I have the flu...

Because It Is Running by

...Essay: Because It Is Running By Time marches on and never stops. Although things may die, it still continues. You can plan you life down to the smallest detail, but suddenly is can be changed by large or small things in life. When life stands still, should we run away from it or let it pass? This dilemma besides our main character, Wil, in Jo Lloyd’s short story “Because It Is Running By” from 2009. After his father lost his battle against cancer, his life has stood still for a while, until he realize that he has the options to change his life. In this essay I will characterize the main character, Will, focus on Jo Lloyd’s style of writing and the significance of the title. Wil is a young boy who lives with his mother. Together they run the “B&B”, which is a bed and breakfast place. He los his father to cancer and after that is their business gone downhill. Wil has given up trying to complete and education – instead he would help the family-business. After his father’s death to cancer, the business has stood still in a long time. It means a lot to Wil that the B&B only should be run on by family members: “He remembered that there has been a conversation. We can’t afford it, he has said. The B&B’s the only thing making money, his mother said. We just need weather, he has said, the veg’ll pick up” (p. 1, ll. 7-9) This shows, that Wil things a lot about the business and he thinks that only the weather, him and his mother could run the B&B back on track...

Because It Is Running by

...Because it is running by – essay A. “Because It Is Running By” is a short story which was published in 2009 by Jo Lloyd. It is a short story because there are few people in it, it is short, the action is simple, realistic and it has an open ending. This short story is about Wil who is in a place in his life where he has to choose where he wants to be and he has to let the past go. The main character in the story is Wil who lives with his mother. (Page 1, line 8): “The B&B’s the only thing making money, his mother had said. We just need the weather, he had said, the veg’ll pick up”. Wil does not like changes and in the start he is sceptical about the new helper Edie. Wil and his mother’s lives “stopped” when Wil’s father died. (Page 1, line 14): “The guests had breakfast in the room that used to be the family sitting room. […] Wil had hardly been in that room since the B&B started.” (Page 1, line 25): “Sometimes, on her way out, she’d see Wil working in the field, planting, digging, stacking boxes of veg into the back of the old van”. It sounds like Wil is a person who works hard and maybe he tries to take over his father’s role. It is not mentioned that Wil has other siblings and maybe that is the reason, why he wants to have the father role. Wil’s father died when he was sixteen and it is the age where you have to find yourself. Edie from London is very different contrary to Wil. In the start she is turned inwards but he tries to make her outgoing. (Page 2, line...

Because It Is Running by

...Because It Is Running By Everyone have dreams, and everyone has to make grand choices some day in their lives. “Because It Is Running By” is a short story written by Jo Llyod, which deals with the lack of courage in taking a step towards our dreams, which many people has and can have. In the story we are following Wil, who is a relatively young man, working on a farm and still living with his mother. Wil has dreams about exploring the world and experience what it has to offer, but several things has kept him back and tied him to his childhood, working on the farm his family owns, doing his daily duties. Wil´s mom is presented as a hardworking woman, since we from the very beginning gets introduced to this woman called Edie, who is supposed to assist Wil´s mom with her duties, finally giving her more spare time. Edie and Wil´s relationship later on evolves into love. Edie has done the thing Wil couldn´t. She broke her daily routine, took the step and travelled. Therefore Wil admires what she stands for and immediately falls in love with her. Then he begins to explain to her, how he had intentions of moving out and gone to college as well “I could´ve done my A levels, he said. Could´ve gone to college (…) Left when I was sixteen. When my dad died.” In other words, did Wil because of his father´s death, give up his dreams and his studies and never came back on the horse. Later on Wil talks about the caravan which has become a symbol of his dreams of travelling in the world...

Because Waffletruck.

...Because WAFFLETRUCK. In 1831, there was man named Leopold. Leopold loved to sell waffles, so sell waffles he did! It all started in a little horse-drawn carriage, in the “Grand Place” of Brussels. His waffles were magic, enough so that people adored him, and he was crowned King Leopold I of Belgium. Fast forward to 1964, the World’s Fair, and Maurice Vermeersch’s “Bel-Gem” waffle stand. This is where an American love-affair with the Belgium waffle began. The crispy texture, accompanied by the sweet medley of strawberries and whip cream, were revered by New Yorkers. Unfortunately, the flame of waffle-love dimmed while unattended through the 70’s. Cheap diners began serving mushy excuses for waffles. The ways of the Belgium waffle were nearly forgotten. The King of Belgium got word of the sad state of waffle affairs in the United States, and proclaimed, “These waffles are a disgrace to the culinary heritage of our Flemish and Walloon people. We just cannot let this go on.” That brings us to the waffle-guy himself. Thomas DeGeest, previously an undercover IBM Management Consultant, now “Special Envoy for Wafels” to the USA, was given the task of reviving the quality Belgium waffle. A “waffle-surge” annual budget was allotted by the King to Thomas. “With meager funds but with substantial moral support from the Ministry, his wife Rossanna and waffle lovers everywhere, Thomas bought a 1968 Chevy box truck and hit the hot dog and shish kebab jammed jungle of New York City.” Thus...

Oiler Cas Study

...1) Yes I do believe that Oiler’s employee rights were violated. Oiler was a dedicated employee of twenty years he did an outstanding job, oiler’s personal life for twenty years did not affect the company (Winn-Dixie) or his ability to do a good job. I do not believe that a company should be able to fire anyone for their personal ways. When I say personal ways I mean how someone lives, dresses, or acts outside of their working environment unless it has to do directly with the company itself. If oiler was going around representing Winn-Dixie in any way then yes I could understand why the company would feel a little threatened. I feel that the decision to fire Oiler was based off of someone’s personal feelings towards Oiler being a cross dresser which is very unprofessional, a company should not fire anyone based on personal feelings but instead on how could this effect the company. On the clock Oiler was a very professional employee for twenty years. Not only was Oiler’s employee rights violated but his civil rights also. The seventh Amendment to the civil rights act of 1964 prohibits discrimination in hiring based on sex, religion, and national origin. The Fifth Amendment has an explicit requirement that the federal government not deprive any individual of life, liberty, or property without due process of the law. By firing Oiler for cross dressing is depriving him of living his life in which I do not believe that companies should legally be able to fire employee’s...
