Over 10 percent of the nation’s kindergarten through twelfth grade students are not proficient in the English language and speak other than English at home (Greene, 1998). Bilingual education is practiced in several different forms, in many countries, for years. The defined meaning of this idea, is the use of two languages in schools, used by teachers, students, or both, for a variety of purposes, educational or socially. The bilingual education system was first legally introduced by Ohio in 1839, the first state to adopt the bilingual system, although at this time, it authorized German-English instructions. As time raveled, the
Bilingual Education Act was finally passed during 1968- during an era when educators and political leaders …show more content…
What matters is how the languages are used- simply used as translations or to stimulates a students; cognitive and academic growth. The bilingual program is constructed is several different ways. Some programs provide students a curriculum that simultaneously instructs students all the required classes while teaching them in the English language.
Classrooms are sometimes composed entirely of English Language Learners, or may include native English speakers who are learning Spanish, French, German or some other language. In other courses the student's are taught a full curriculum in their native language and in English. Bilingual educations can be taught in many different forms, increases the students success rate, in the classroom, additionally in the real world.

Numerous goals of bilingual educations are; teaching English, acculturating immigrants to a new society, persevering a minor linguistic and cultural heritage, enabling English speakers to learn a second language, developing national language resources (Smith, 1994) , one could go on and on displaying the infinite benefits that coexist with bilingual education.
