Using the BIMS Part I data, Team C presents various descriptive statistics in the forms of frequency distribution table, measures of mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and graphical display of data. The first table is a frequency distribution table of one quantitative question in the BIMS data. Team C finds that the majority of the 78 respondents have between 0 to 20 months service with BIMS. The second highest group has between 40 to 60 months service with BIMS. The lowest frequency of one appears in five of the 17 classes. The classes with the lowest frequency of one are 120 < 140, 140 < 160, 240 < 260, 260 < 280, and 320 < 340. After summarizing the months of service per respondents, Team C focuses on the gender, division of employment, and manager/supervisors role questions. Team C completes the statistical summary of the BIMS data using the first 10 questions that represent the ordinal-level data. Frequency Distribution - Quantitative B. ...Using a spot the difference puzzle to find out whether being a lark or an owl affects your alertness in the morning or the evening. Results were then tested on significance using the Wilcoxon T test to decide whether the results found were reliable, or just down to chance. In theory, a lark should be more alert in the morning than in the evening compared to an owl who would be more alert in the evening. To test thins the participants were given two spot the difference puzzles and had to complete one in the morning and one in the evening. This in using the repeated measures method. This was tested on 49 participants who completed an MEQ (morning evening questionnaire) particapnats were tested in their homes at set times and given 1 minute to complete the spot the difference puzzles. Results were then tested on significance using the Wilcoxon T test to decide whether the results found were reliable, or just down to chance. Introduction The aim of the investigation was to find out the answer to the question ‘are people more alert at their preferred time of day?’ To test this, the procedures were based on the theory that A lark should be more alert in the morning and so should be able to score higher in the morning than the evening and an owl should be more alert in the evening than the morning therefore scoring higher than the larks in the evening. This hypothesis is a One-tailed Hypothesis because it is directional, these are the 4 possible hypothesis that can be tested...

Statistics in Psychology

...Statistics in Psychology Team B April 5, 2014 PSY/315 Nancy Walker Many people find the topic of statistics to be very difficult and a world of confusion. If asked, most would simplify statistics to being a breakdown of information using those colorful charts and graphs. This paper will give a brief introduction into the world of statistics by examining the differences between descriptive and inferential statistics, as well as, introduce some key terms that are frequently used. It will also describe the functions of statistics and describe how they are applied in the field of psychology. Having a better understanding of the various statistical functions and definitions, we will have a better opportunity at providing examples and prove that statistics is more than just colorful charts and graphs. Statistics is where a large amount of data is put together in a format that allows the viewer to understand it better. Whenever choosing an experiment that results in statistics, one would start with a hypothesis, or idea. This gives the entire process a purpose. The function of statistics appears for various reasons. When there is a large amount of data, it organizes it so that a viewer and/or a presenter can comprehend or present it easier. A way that it is organized is through charts and graphs, which shows the clarity. Another function is to show comparisons between two or more clumps of data. Statistics helps in forecasting trends and tendencies. Statistical techniques...

Descriptive and Inferential Statistics

...Descriptive and Inferential Statistics PSY/315 Statistical Reasoning in Psychology September 21, 2013 Dr. Nancy Walker Descriptive and Inferential Statistics Statistics is “a branch of mathematics that focuses on the organization, analysis, and interpretation of a group of numbers” (Aron, Aron, & Coups, 2009, p. 2). However, just the mention of statistics makes people nervous, although when properly understood, many of the questions statistics tries to answer are very provocative and challenging. Statistics are a collection of information and, data that helps test the theory something is happening or will happen again. The functions of statistics are there to help researchers have a better understanding of a phenomenon. Statistics can be used when looking for the truth, if you have ever had a hunch about something, was it confirmed? Yes the hunch was confirmed. Statistics help researchers with data by using math and working with a group of numbers. Statistics studies variables, characteristics that have different values, values, possible number that a score can have, and score one person value of a variable (Aron, Aron, & Coups, 2009). Descriptive and inferential statistics are to evaluate results and enable one to make a conclusion. Descriptive statistics are a way to describe data (Laird Statistics, 2013), as well as to “summarize and describe a group of numbers from a research study,” whereas, inferential statistics are used to “draw conclusions and...

...Week 3 Team A BIMS Summarizing and Presenting Data QNT/351 Quantitative Analysis for Business June 2, 2014 Summarizing and Presenting Data In both employee surveys, BIMS used all three levels of measurement to analyze the data collected. In reviewing the findings from the employee survey, the ultimate goal was to get the overall census of the employees on the survey questions. These survey questions were engineered to evaluate the satisfaction level of the employees at BIMS and to reveal the underlying issues and continuous concerns that were causing the high turnover and low morale at BIMS. The interval level of measurement was used to display the employee’s length of employment and a numeric code was used to describe the nominal, ordinal and interval data. Descriptive statistics was used to show the mean, median, mode and central tendency of the data. An analysis of each survey question was broken down, and the interpretation displayed on tables, charts and graphs. These graphs give an overall visual description of the answers to each question. After all the data had been analyzed, displayed, and interpreted, the outcome shows that BIMS was experiencing high turnover due to low pay and lack of communication within the organization. Descriptive Analysis The intention of descriptive analysis is to provide a clear understanding through the use of graphical and numerical visual of the patterns and unique trends in the data set of interest...

...BIMS Data Collection Jesse Gillen, Melroy Hyman, Joseph Boots, Michael Richards, Megan Hudspeth QNT/351 February 10th, 2015 Mohammad Sharifzadeh, Ph.D BIMS Research Analysis Introduction This report and the two studies conducted within it are to determine the reason for the increased turnover rate at Ballard Integrated Management Systems, Inc.. This report contains how the studies were conducted, the information that was gathered, interpretations of the data and recommendations for management. Study I Overview Ballard Integrated Management Systems, Inc. (BIMS) is experiencing an increased turnover rate with no clear answer why this is happening. The purpose of this study is to investigate why the turnover rate at BIMS has increased. The question that the research is attempting to answer is: What are the factors that may be contributing to the increased turnover rate in each region? Hypothesis Our hypothesis is that each region is going to show a spike of negative feedback to a specific problem. For example, employees working in the hospitality division may show more displeasure for their supervisor than the employees working in the food service division. This spike may indicate the reason for the increased turnover rate. BIMS One of the problems BIMS faces at its Douglas Medical Center site is a 4 percent increase in employee turnover. The root cause of the increased turnover rate has not yet been determined, and the exit interviews have been unsuccessful...

...QNT 351 August 27, 2014 Henry Jacobs In this report we will revise, summarize, and present our updated data for BIMS case study review. Analyzing the descriptive statistics helps our team breakdown the basic features of quantitative data results from the survey. However, we do not want to risk the chance of distorting our original findings, but use these statistics to analyze the comparisons of answers from employees and departments. Utilizing the central tendency which are three measures: mean, mode, and median allows us to give senior management raw data to make better decisions with. Measures of Variability findings enables us to differentiate results from BIMS surveys which differs from their mean. Our overall recommendation and analysis will be given to senior management within this paper off the current raw data. Data Collected The type of data collected in the survey conducted was quantitative as the data collected in the surveys was expressed numerically. Some of the questions were qualitative however the responses given were provided based on a numerical response. The survey had employees’ answer the question provided based on a scale 1-5, one being very negative and five being very positive. The data collected was later coded and entered into a spreadsheet by Debbie’s office support staff however; some errors existed when keying in the wrong number for the response provided and inputting zeros when the option was not available to employees, zero indicated no...

Ballard Integrated Managed Service Week 5

...Ballard Integrated Managed Service QNT/351 - Quantitative Analysis for Business January 27, 2014 Ryan Wahlstrom The recommendations that should be suggested to Debbie are to not make the questions sounding as if they have already been answered. Debbie has some of the questions set up like they are correct not for an honest answer. The questions need to ask the employee for an honest answer. In questions one through ten Debbie has laid the questions out like they have already been answer when the questions have not been answered. The questions Debbie has chosen to put on the survey indicate that the employees already like their jobs, feel secure in their jobs, they feel the company communicates well, the company is easy to drive to, that all supervisors are treating the employees fairly, and the questions indicate that the employees are paid well and train for their jobs. Question eleven was a good question because it asked why the employee quite it did not state why the employee quite. Most all of the questions that were on the survey for the employees to answer were worded in a way that was very difficult to comprehend and answer accurately. This may have been the main reason as to why the reply rate on the survey came back so low. Also it was stated that there was a huge sum of employees that never turned in a completed survey so that their results could be tallied as well. This may have also been due to the way that the questions were worded on the survey...
