1) The first key learning point that I found to be particularly interesting and valuable was “How to start a business”. I found this point to be very interesting for starting a business has and continues to be a dream of mine. Within this category were sub- categories such as: business startup strategy, the right business for you, knowing your industry before you start your business, and estimating realistic startup cost. Although all very intriguing, I found the category on business startup strategies to be the most important for it gave the basics on how to start up a business, something that I didn’t know before The second key learning point that I found to be very interesting was where to start and what to do when “Buying a business”. I found this to be very interesting because if I can’t start a business, buying one would be the next best thing. Categories within this learning point included planning for purchasing a business, questions to ask when buying a business, knowing what you’re getting, and how to figure out what a business is worth. The last key learning point that I found to be very interesting while browsing the website was possibly more important than the first two learning points, “How to write a business plan”. Through the links in this category including: a standard business plan outline, different types of plans for businesses, what a business plan is, what makes a good plan, mistakes that can be made, a simpler plan for starting up a business and how long a business plan should be. I learned that a business plan is any plan that works for a business to look ahead, allocate resources, focus on key points, and prepare for problems and opportunities. I found this to be very useful and interesting because it can be used in other things other than just the business field.

2) After looking deeply into both the Barnes & Noble website and the Amazon website I have concluded that I, personally, would prefer Barnes& Noble opposed to Amazon. There are many reasons for this, the first one being that I am not a huge fan of the amount of products that Amazon carries on one website, it results in a mass amount of clutter whereas the Barnes and Noble website is very organized and contains a few types of products. Also, I’m not a fan at all of how many different distributors Amazon has for their products (listed at the bottom), the Barnes and Noble website goes as far as to provide a link for tracking your border, whereas with the Amazon website you have to track your order through different places. It is also nice that with Barnes & Noble you are able to go into a local store if needed, while Amazon is strictly web based. Barnes & Noble also has a more appealing home page for their website, the colors are bright and welcoming, even with a holiday theme for the season, while Amazon’s is quite dull and lacking in color (mostly white). I feel like overall Barnes & Noble is just a more efficient, reliable company, or it seems this way based on their website.

Part B
1) The Global Competitive Report is a yearly report published based on the Global Competitiveness Index of countries. The first key learning point number that really caught my attention and impressed me about the competitiveness of a country was that the Global Competiveness Index is composed of over 110 variables. They are organized into 12 pillars each considered important in determining competiveness. I found this to be very interesting for it showed me that the level of competiveness a countries economy has is much deeper than what I thought it was, a lot goes in to determining this. The second key learning point that really impressed me was that the United States is actually ranked seventh on the list in 2012-2013 due to the financial crisis of 2007-2010, and its macroeconomic instability. I was impressed by this because of the huge impact those two factors had on the ability of the United States to have a competitive economy knocking them down six whole places from number one in the years prior. The list fluctuates so much that the US has managed to work their way back up to a number five position in just in year. A third key point that I found to be very interesting and impressive goes hand in hand with my second key point. As wages rise with advancing development, countries move into the efficiency-driven stage of development, when they must begin to develop more efficient production processes and increase product quality. Apparently, at this point, competitiveness becomes increasingly driven by higher education and training, efficient goods markets, efficient labor markets, developed financial markets, the ability to harness the benefits of existing technologies, and its market size. These are all a part of the twelve pillars mentioned earlier, I found this to be impressive because it shows how well rounded a country must be in ordered to be considered competitive. If lacking in one of these areas a country very well could fall to their competition. There are many levels to being a competitive force, countries must start from the bottom until all aspects are strong. Something that was demonstrated in the Global Business Project.

Part C
1) The Global Team Business project has greatly improved my way of adapting to different learning techniques. The team project has enhanced my learning experience greatly and has taught me how to apply all of our ideas and opinions into one collaboration. Three key learning points that I took from this project included how to view business matters from an international perspective, how to work together with other team members to achieve a common goal, and how to efficiently conduct business research on a company and relay that information effectively into a complete, satisfactory project . I learned how to view business matter from an international standpoint by looking in to how our company, Nike, performed worldwide and how they did so. Through our research I was able to see how Nike adapted to the needs of customers in different areas of the world and how they performed in turn. In order for our project to be successful we all had to learn to compromise and respect other one another’s views, schedules, time, and also how balance out the work evenly so no one person was doing a majority of the project. So, that is exactly what I learned, personally, how to do all of those things and come out with a satisfactory project to turn in. This is very important for while working your way up no matter if it is in business or medicine, knowing how to work effectively with other people is imperative for success. The third key learning point that I took from this project is how to conduct business research efficiently and relay that information into a complete, satisfactory project. By “business research” I mean the researching of the components of a given company, in this case, Nike. I learned how to search webpages and articles for information on the company and analyze components of that company based on what I had read. Analyzing, thinking outside of the box, and problem solving all came into play here. This is very important once again not only in the business field, nut in all other fields as well. The project as a whole was mainly done collectively, with all group members contributing evenly to all parts. However, personally I conducted research on what countries Nike is currently doing business in and how they alter their company to suit the needs of these countries. I also created a list of potential problems the company may face and how they could go about solving said problems. Lastly, I collected all pieces of the project and put them together in an organized manner, along with designing the cover page and turning it in as a whole. A few things that were nearly impossible to do but would have improved our teamwork for the Global Project included, being able to actually visit a Nike factory as a group and see everything in action from an inside perspective. Also, it would have been nice if our group could have actually spoken with a representative from Nike that is from a different country and could provide us with solid insight on problems faced worldwide. Lastly, I feel like it really would’ve improved our teamwork if we could have presented out project in the form of a presentation to the class so we could include visual aids such as videos and pictures to better illustrate what we had come up with.

Business Final Paper

...Business Final Paper In this paper I will be telling you about my fictional business I have created at the beginning of this class. A few of the things I am going to go over is business organization, potential legal ethic issues, business culture and types of motivation. These are just of few of the things that I will be going over. My business is a small business with a lot of potential for growth. It is a non-incorporated company in which it is entirely owned by me, the company organization is sole-proprietorship. The reason I chose this business organization is mainly because I have always wanted to be my own boss, I don’t want to have to answer to anyone. Every business has to deal with potential legal issues. My legal and ethical stature will be guarded because we will keep our liabilities to a minimum. Our mission is to have a great reputation because the company is expected to grow. All employees will sign a code of conduct and will be trained on rules, regulations, and procedure. My company will abide by the equal opportunity act, my company is also insured incase injuries, theft, vandalism, etc. occurs. My company’s culture is about success and teamwork, which will be displayed how the company is operated. Every business has the possibility of a potential ethical issue. This is something that cannot be avoided 100 percent but you can’t try to minimize these issues. Motivation is one of the most important parts of keeping a company going. My company’s motivation is...

Business Plan Final Project

...I am here with you today to show you how I plan to run a successful business. The name of my business is D and C Café. This restaurant is going to be located in an office building where there are doctors, lawyers, and other businesses that have clients coming in throughout the day. The employees of this office building as well as clients have to travel at least 10 minutes to go somewhere for lunch. There is no other food service in this building. This café would make an exceptional addition to this office building. The café I am starting will be geared for customers that work and visit the BG plaza office building. We will have a menu that is geared more towards food that can be prepared quickly for those in a rush, but we will also have steaks, seafood etc. for those that have the time to sit, relax and eat. This café will be open the same hours that the office building is open, so it will be available to all employees and clients at all business hours of the plaza. This café will be implemented as a corporation. The reason I have chosen a corporation is because shares of stock can be bought. As an investor you will own shares of stock in the café. This will be easier if for any reason you want to sell your stock. “Shares of stock are easy to sell (transfer ownership.)” (Kieso, Kimmel and Weygandt 2003). With the café being a corporation and having stock holders, it will be easier to raise funds if the need arises by selling stock to investors like yourself. Now we will...

Business Strategy Game Final Essay

...1.In the business strategy game one should buy plant upgrades early in the game, because it has an accumulative effect. In the "Plant Capacity" screen you are given four different plant upgrade options per plant. Depending on what your strategy is, one should upgrade their plant in each region with at least two different options. 2. In the "Branded Production" screen you will want to make TQM/sigma six have a value of 2.50 because it helps you achieve a higher SQ rating and set Best Practices at 5000 because it will save you money per pair of shoes produced. Keep these values the same from the start of the game and until the end because they also have an accumulative effect. The business strategy game values more models offered than SQ rating. 3. On should treat the business strategy game like a real corporation and take out loans early on in the game because you have a better credit score starting out. Borrow the maximum amount for the first few years. Use the money from the loans to build more plant capacity in existing plants as well as possibly a new plant in another geographic region such as Latin America. Once your company starts making more and more revenue every year, you can repay your loans early, buy back stock, and pay dividends. 4. After the business strategy game is run, buy excess capacity that all of the other teams sell. The number of excess capacity will be shown on the "Corporate Lobby" screen, and to buy it you just go to the "Plant Capacity" screen...

Business Law Final Paper

...Final Paper – Acme Fireworks As the manager for Acme Fireworks, I have been asked to determine if common law or the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) will govern the contracts entered into by Acme Fireworks. In addition, I am to analyze whether the five essential elements of a contract have been met. Acme Fireworks is currently licensed as a sole proprietorship. As such, I will examine any potential personal liability they may have if a spectator was to get injured during a firework display. Further, I will compare the different employment types available to Acme Fireworks. Lastly, I will analyze and recommend a new business entity that would fit the needs of Acme Fireworks going into the future. Governed by Common Law or UCC Common law “emphasizes the making of rules through court decisions” (Rogers, 2012). The court will base their decisions on prior cases with similar legal issues. The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) is “a summary of traditional common law rules governing commercial transactions” (Rogers, 2012). Since the UCC governs contracts between businesses, I believe that the UCC would be the organization that would enforce the contracts between Acme Fireworks and the other large businesses. Five Essential Elements of a Contract A contract is formed when two or more parties come to a mutual agreement regarding the terms of the sale of goods, services rendered or any other legal transaction (Rogers, 2012). The first required element of the contract is that it is...

Global Essay for Business School Application (2) Final

...Owning and running a business has always been my dream. I always had a strong conviction that I would start my own business and run it successfully. My parents had tried this before but, they had failed due to poor managerial tactics. To overcome those certain pitfalls, I realized the need to find out the best business solution methods and avoid the path that my parents went through. However, I never imagined that I would study business in one of the best business schools in America. The idea of joining an American University occurred to me when I was admitted into the 2012 Harvard College Summit for Young Leaders in China. This event was an eye opener and prompted me through a series of discoveries of the American culture and education system. After a thorough analysis of the American’s way of life and their education, I was convinced that this is where I would perfect my business skills and prepare myself for my career business. The behavioral features that interested me most about the American students is their innovativeness, independence, open-mindedness, and their ability to work as a team. These are some of the skills that really impressed me, and, which, I thought would go a long way in enhancing my chances for starting and running a business. During the HCSYLC event, I invited two Harvard students to choreograph a dance that was quite successful. We related quite well and the experience I had with those two gave me an insight on how intelligent and innovative they were...

...Why Do Operating Systems Differ? “Many people take the way goods and services are provided to them for granted” Why do we as a people not fully appreciated the process in which our goods are provided to us? Some would say it’s due to the convenience in which we can obtain our goods, having almost anything we desire a drive or click of a mouse away. Other’s I believe truly do not know how the very goods they consume or buy on a daily basis get to where they are available for us. Since we will be talking about different goods and services, we will obviously talk about the difference in the process in which these goods are made readily available to the masses. Here we will discuss the production and distribution of your favorite sneaker selling store, Krispy Kreme Donuts, and the Medical Records department of a Hospital. All of us have a neighborhood store in which we favor when looking for a fresh pair of sneakers. I use my neighborhood Sports Lane store for which I worked for a year when I was a teenager. There were several components when it came to its operating system; a system than may not have been perfect sometimes, but was always built for profits. When I started working there the employees were broken up in to three groups. We had our sellers who sold the merchandise, we had our packers and organizers who unloaded and set up the merchandise in our storage; then we had our managerial team who worked the registers as well forever working and critiquing the presentation...
