To Whom It May Concern: I met Kristin Thomas in the Math and Science Program (MSP), which was hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. As her resident advisor in the MSP program, I was able to get to know Kristin in the classroom, in the dorms, and on various trips throughout the program. We also kept in touch after the program was over. Kristin displayed various qualities of a leader. She was quite active in the program in that she was able to make friends with all of the campers. If there was something that needed to be said, she would speak up and stand up for her beliefs. If there was something that needed to be done, she would not hesitate to help out and also encourage others to help as well. She was a team player that looked out for others and definitely helped make the MSP campers feel like a team. She lived in the dorms for about a month and attended all of her classes and other activities on time and without supervision. She worked very well with other campers, resident advisors, and MSP staff. The campers came from various states across the nation and have diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, and she was able to make friends with everyone. She was able to adapt with ease and greatly contributed in making MSP an inclusive community. Kristin’s communication skills are excellent. She engaged with other students in an intense, hands-‐on curriculum in which she analyzed and provided solutions for case studies and developed business plans. In the classroom, she balanced her contributions without dominating the discussion. If she answered a question that built off from another student’s answer, she would give credit to that student. She was quite aware of the etiquette in participating in a classroom. As a part of the program, she was also able to develop her verbal communication skills when she designed and gave a persuasive presentation to employees at the Hershey’s office. Kristin’s was able develop professionally throughout MSP. She was challenged intellectually through various lectures given by professors in accounting, stock trading, strategy, marketing, ethics, and more. She learned about interviewing skills and applied them by interviewing performers at the summer festival. She also developed networking skills and was able to apply those skills with current UPenn students. Kristin was given an opportunity to understand principles of responsible leadership when she went on her corporate site visits. At the office, she was able to learn about corporate social responsibility and was given a chance to make an impact by building a bookcase to be donated. Through her desire to create a team and an inclusive community with the campers from diverse backgrounds, her awareness of her presence in the classroom, her sense of corporate social responsibility, and her intellectual curiosity, I believe she is a very strong candidate and has great potential in succeeding in college. She embodies all the qualities that will make her a great contribution to the college community. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Rhetorical Analysis

...Writing for Business/Industry has been an interesting class throughout the semester. It was a class that I was hesitant on taking because I am now the biggest fan of English classes, however I am glad that I ended up taking the class. Throughout the semester I learned how too successfully write documents that are used in the world of business, these documents include; sales report, a memo, an executive summary, a resume, a proposal, and many more. I had three assignments that were assigned. The three assignments included; a resume, a rhetorical analysis of a popular business article, and a positive and negative business letter. The first assignment that was assigned was to find an available job position and create a resume that would fit to the opening. I felt like I met the goals for the assignment because I followed the rubric and created a resume based on a summer internship position offered by Uline. This assignment taught me how to create a strong resume with the correct format that employers are looking for. At first the assignment was difficult because I wasn’t sure what type of resume to write, but after a little help it slowly started to come together. Peer review helped me with my resume because it...

My Writing Skills

...No matter what someone may tell you, writing is a critical skill in daily life. Whether you’re writing a business email or a text message, it’s important to understand the fundamentals of English. As writers, we all have our strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Nobody is perfect, and that’s okay. English is one of the hardest languages in the world, after all. I think I’ve always been good at allowing my voice to flow in the essays I write. It’s a very tricky skill, but after years of writing for different classes, It’s a skill that kind of develops on its own. The different between an okay essay and a great essay is being able to hear and understand the voice of the writer who wrote that essay. If you allow your voice to come through,...
