Conflict among economic goals of business and government vs. The social goals of the citizens and government of American society September 28, 2015

There are many conflicting reasons among economic goals of business and government as to the social goals of citizens and government in the American society.
In this assessment, I will go over a few points from both sides and how they would conflict with one another based on moral standards. Thoreau says, “understanding business is crucial to learning how to avoid being crushed by it­­that and education in business allows for maximum utility.” (

potential conflicts and how to resolve the issues. In the meanwhile, uring the first few d class discussions we often discussed motivation and what the real motivator was. When we were asked as a class, “what motivates people?” Many replied, “money.” Then when told, we came to the realization that the real motivator is what money buys. hether it

be a new car, house, new clothes, etc. Whatever it may be, that’s what drives many to the point of discussion.
First, we will start off with economic goals of business and government. An economic goal for a business and government would be efficiency . How well the business/ government is running and if they’re receiving more of an output with the least possible input. A conflict with the idea of efficiency is just that. In a business standpoint, working the least amount possible with “earning” the most possible. In some cases, it can lead to dishonesty and deception having no virtue and integrity. You become selfish and look for ways on how only YOU can benefit than the common good of the society.
Almost consumption in a sense. On the other hand, Rand also talks about the positive effects of capitalism. Stating selfishness encourages voluntary cooperation, greed better

lifts the poor toward ever­increasing standards of living, and cruelty more progressive than any other economic ideology. (

Another economic goal, equity.
Equity is the distribution of income and wealth in fairness. The idea of that is conflicting in itself. For example, we have two people working for the same company with the same job title. One puts in more effort than the other. Who should get paid more? It’s easy. The one who works harder should. Their production should lead to how much they’re getting paid, but also depending on what you do determines the pay as well. A business isn’t going to pay what they’re not getting in return. It’s just not logical.
One last economic goal to distinguish differences would be in the economic freedom. The freedom a person may have to save money, invest, and spend. The freedom one may have to choose and change jobs. People could argue that government regulations limit the freedom of some people to make their own choices.
Others argue that government policies may free some people to take greater advantage of the opportunities provided to them in this economy. In reality, it is freedom to a certain extent. A limited freedom I’d say to help regulate different issues.
Now to start with a couple social goals of citizens and government of American society.
Equality ights
/ r play a big part in our society. Whether it be race, gender, age, etc. A lot of times there are those who feel discriminated and limited due to certain stereotypes and are treated differently and they start to act accordingly. Economically, no one is equal. We have an upper class, middle class, and lower class in our society.

Some could argue the upper class being almost entitled to everything because of where they’re at which gives almost no opportunity for someone of another class to progress.
We live in a competitive society and nation where everything now should be earned through hard work and good moral standards. With no equality, conflict thrives which causes more issues economically for the society and government when trying to resolve the issues.
Happiness
. How is happiness achieved? Many people believe money brings happiness. Well, you can say it does or it doesn’t. There are many arguments to both sides and in reality everyone is different, living in different situations and circumstances, and if money is the factor to that happiness no one could really understand, but oneself. With that being said, we have also discussed the reciprocal, about money being the root of evil. The acts committed to receiving the money and having no conscience or guilt is the evil of money.
Wealth can be a good thing depending on how it is used. Everything to help the progress of society and the government whether it be economically, technical, or however it may be is created for good and the use of man. It’s just us as a society ever changing these ideas, justifying ourselves, that create the evil.
Anything that is good can be turned for the opposite to please desires and wants.
Now tying that in, it discusses Rand’s view of money (Pg. 106). Happiness can also come from earning what you need and seeing the important aspects of life such as family, friends, opportunities, and what you cherish and value in life.

There were a few goals presented on both sides and different conflicts that arose to the different issues. As we can see, there are points to take from to help us progress as we strive to achieve our social and economic goals.
