...MiA MOODY Introduction Rapper Roxanne Shanté's 1989 rendition of "Independent Woman," explored relationships and admonished women not to dote on partners who do not reciprocate or to buy into the fairytale dream that a man would always take care of them. The definition of an "Independent Woman" in the Urban Dictionary, a predominantly African American written and defined Web site, is "A woman who pays her own bills, buys her own things, and does not allow a man to affect her stability or self-confidence. She supports herself on her own entirely and is proud to be able to do so." Another depiction of independence is found in Tina Portis' video clip titled the "Deception of the Independent Woman" posted to YouTube in 2010. Portis, an entrepreneur and former single mother, offers her opinion on statistics showing 42% of U.S. black women have never been married and are "independent" because they focus on achievement, often waiting too long to compete for the small number of black men who are equal in status (Johnson, 2010). In the video, she asserts that independent women do not need a pat on the back for doing what grownups are supposed to do: pay their bills, buy houses and cars, etc. She adds that independence discourages relationships as people begin to believe they can do everything alone, so they do not need a mate. She was a proud, stubborn girl with many fixed ideas and she even admonished me: “Justbecause you gave will be accepted.” It was until after...

If you had to read one again, which one would you pick? S: I can’t pick! T; Would you read both of them again? S; Let me check …. yes, for one dollar. T: A dollar? Why would you need a dollar? S: Cookie, to buy at lunch I utilized Jericho’s enthusiasm of this series to push him into higher types of thinking (‘Analysis’ from Bloom’s Taxonomy) – Specifically, by asking him to compare the two books we had just read. However, when this conversation was not successful and got off topic, I quickly changed the conversation to stay on topic. T: So, what was Biscuit Loves the Library about? S: Books! T: Pretend I didn’t read it with you, and you have to tell me what it’s about. S: [Gets book to flip through pictures] First, they were going to the library. ...quality products and services and selling them at a price that gives consumers want and how much they are willing to pay for a product and then design, produce and market the best quality products they can for the price consumers are willing to pay. To sum it all, many successful companies have recognized the importance of consumers and have sophisticated approaches and detailed data from which to develop organizational and marketing strategy. 2. Do you think marketing is a powerful force in society? Why or why not? Yes! Marketing is a powerful force in the society. I can say this because in the meaning of marketing from Josiah Go’s book of Principles of marketing, it clearly states that marketing is the process of continuously and profitably satisfying the target customer’s needs, wants and expectations superior to competition. Thus from this meaning I derive my answer as” Marketing, particularly as developed and implemented by successful companies, have a powerful force on consumers and society at large. I believe that marketing not only adapt to consumers needs and wants but also change what consumer think and feel about themselves, about various marketing offerings and about reasons and situations for purchase and use.” 3. What is the role of consumer analysis in developing marketing strategies? Marketing strategies are typically designed to increase the chances that consumers will have favourable thoughts and...

...To Build or Buy Strayer University Course: BUS 402 January 29, 2012 My business strategy is to purchase an existing tea and coffee shop which is located a mile away from where I work in Ashburn, Virginia, the business is call Sakasa tea and coffee. Sakasa is located next door to George Washington University and directly across is a chick fil a and a small hotel also it is right off a major highway so it has a great location. The reason the owner is selling is because of health issue and as a result, he cannot run the business the way it should. The business is making a profit of $2000.00 dollars a month on average after paying all expense. But I feel he can generate $5000.00 a month on average if he markets the business. The current owner never advertises Sakasa tea and coffee in the area. Therefore, I assume since he is located next to a major University he did not have to do any advertising and it was all word of mouth by the students which is a great. Sakasa serve a variety of hot and cold tea and coffee, they use only 100% organic Fair Trade coffee and espresso beans (Sakasa tea & coffee, 2008) . They also freshly roast all coffee beans locally, so you get the true magical flavor of every bean. It is truly amazing. Also Sakasa feature a huge selection of loose leaf teas, they also has a variety of savory tea sandwiches, assorted sweets, and freshly baked scones which served with different types of jam and English Devonshire cream(Sakasa tea & coffee, 2008)...

...and make such an impact that they become part of our everyday world. (Czubek et al. 442) Jk Rowling’s Potter book series is by far one of the most loved series by adults and children for over sixteen years. First published in 1997, the world has fallen in love with Harry Potter and the magical world that he saved from destruction several times over. For me, growing up and being forced to read was always a problem until my father bought me the first book and I have been hooked ever since. A proud owner of all the books in hardback, audio books and all the movies, some would say I’m a bit of a Harry Potter nerd. For me, Harry Potter has become an everyday part of my world. In this review of rhetoric, three main components will be examined. The will be the examination of identities. Secondly, an examination of the commodity culture in the Potter books. Lastly, Christian undertones will be looked at. Identity Harry spent 11 years of his life not knowing who he was or where he belonged. He thought he belonged to his horrible Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia. Todd A. Czubek and Janey Greenwald have written an article that explains the parallels between Harry Potter and the Deaf world. Using a “deaf lens” we can gain insight into social arrangements in the same way that fields like Women’s Studies and Black Studies have brought gender and race issues to a level of awareness we never imagined years ago. (Czubeck et al. 442) A related development in the field of literature...

...have to borrow. The exray of the business a reflected on two documents balance sheet income table Balancesheet vs. Financing needs Balance sheet is a table, with two sides, with two colums, on the left you have the assets, and at the other side you have the liablility ( this is the money you borrow from others), and as well owner equity (this is the money you put in your business out of your pocket). Assets fall into two main categories, you have current assets and fixed assets. Fixed assets, are land, building, machinery, eguipments, vehicles, fax machines etc. If you are a manufacturer, you need to buy alot of equipments, but if you are a trader buy and sell, you may not need alot of items. At least some items should be in the fixed assets. How do you finance them You may wish to buy a place where you do business or you can simply rent it, and you need to put machinery in the office. For this you need money. Not all does come out of your pockets, financing needs are even for the richest corporations. In each business there are ownersmoney, or the money that the entrepreneur had borrowed. The golden rule: debt to equity should bet two times. The total debt and owners equity. The total debt has to be maximum two and the owerers equity has to be 1. If the total debts are twice as much as the owners equity, that business regarded as an optimum business. Debt to equity should be 2/1 = 200% , two times. If you have this on your report, the...

...The Change i The Change from Size 0 to Plus Size Models in Magazines Women, Girls, and the Media Professor Black December 17, 2011 The Change 1 The fashion industry has been making changes towards a more plus size friendly atmosphere when it comes to magazine covers and articles. According to Lillith Ezine.com “A year ago, a frail, washed-out creature called the waif almost did fashion in. And in what may give conspiracy theorists a sense of satisfaction, magazine editors, certain designers and retailers joined forces like characters in an Agatha Christie novel to deal a death blow to the waif, whom most magazine readers and store customers had rejected” ("Fashion Waifs Disappearing The Fashion eZine-Anorexia,"). I believe a world filled with women and men displaying all shapes and sizes will only inspire consumers to purchase more magazines and media in general. According to Boyd after conducting their research “Preliminary examination suggests that more than half of young women's magazines are upholding elements of the voluntary Code of Conduct for Body Image, through representation of diverse-sized women in their swimsuit issues”(Boyd, 2011). The research they conducted “reviews the promotion of healthy body image to young Australian women, following the 2009 introduction of the voluntary Industry Code...
