...Colie Ballard Musical Clarity As I sit down on the small wooden stool, I take a breath in, hold it for a second, and slowly let it out. I stretch my fingers and place them on the piano’s familiar ivory keys. After I scan my music, I shut my eyes and play the first note or chord. The music takes me on a journey, and allows me to transform from scared and nervous to completely relaxed and confident in the music I am playing. The first sounds of the piano lead me into a place of serenity, and prepare me for the vocals, which I begin shortly after the piano introduction. As I take another breath, I produce my own vibration and begin to sing. As the words and melody of “All of Me” by John Legend resonate through me, I am caressed by an everlasting bliss. At this moment, my brain detaches from reality, as if I am in a dream. Sitting on a chair performing with a piano backing up my voice and expressing myself through music is a place where I am nothing but content. With each note I play and word I sing, I feel enlightened. It is special that I have a place to engulf myself in, my own little haven. I lose myself and all of a sudden it’s the last note. I look up from the music and the keys, and the roaring and clapping from the crowd snap me back to reality. Throughout my childhood I have been brought up with music. It has been something generations of my family have used to cope with any difficulties that came their way, express themselves, and to learn more about who they are as...

...Clarity For Effortless Reading. Date: (07/30/2013) As Enrique Jardiel Poncela notes that “When something can be read without effort, great effort has gone into its writing”, writers should put forth their best effort to make their text readable without effort. Clarity is one of the most important factors that a paper needs to provide to make it readable and to draw attention of readers. To write concisely, in parallel structure, and using active voice are the key points to achieve a clear and engaging paper. It is important to write concisely to keep the reader’s attention and to make sure that the writing is clear. Concise writing does not mean using the fewest words, however, it is to write with the most effective words. As the most effective words are chosen, the writing gets more concise and readable. In general, the more specific words the writers use, the more concise writing is. Prudent word choice helps writers keep the readers’ attention making them engaged and stay on topic. Therefore, using specific words makes writers communicate their thoughts more effectively. If words are heavy burden, they had better be changed with effective ones. On the other hand, some sentences can easily be combined with one another without conceding any of their value, thus giving the text clarity. It is also important to write in parallel structure which means parallelism to add both influence and clarity to the writing. Parallel structure...

...Cynthia Katasi English 103 Mr. Voth 06/20/2013 Charity and Individualism: In the year of 1841, a writer by the name of Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote an essay titled “Self-Reliance” about his philosophy on what it means to be a self-reliant individual through a series of ideas. Emerson’s philosophy is one of optimism and hope, it is based as much on intuition as it is on logic or reason, and it is idealistic in its validation of the inherent worth of each individual form of existence. Two of the ideas that Emerson writes about are “Charity” and “Individualism.” He rejects the idea of charity being an “apology” and wants the individual to live free of shame. According to Emerson, it is better for charitable acts to be genuine rather inconstant. However, he believes that Individualism is important and that people should trust and be true to themselves. Emerson considers charity as an unacceptable institution. According to him, charity is uncharitable and hypocritical. He argues that a man should worry more about his or her own family and community at home than about “black folk a thousand miles off” (4), and he chides people who give money to the poor. “Are they my poor?” he asks. He refuses to support morality through donations to organizations rather than directly to individuals. The concrete act of charity, in other words, is real and superior to abstract or theoretical morality. He sees charity as cloaked with hate and pride, as an untrue institution that serves only our...

...Areas of the directive that lack clarity and conciseness: Inefficient communication constitutes a major problem to any organization. Recently an email stated that the member of the R&D department was to make a presentation demo for discussing new product and send it to intrigued departments. But there was no proper instructions about • How to construct the email with all the new product information clearly • How to identify interested departments and shareholders within the organization • How to identify lay and low tech audience in the organization? So that new technology and unique features of the product can be stated in the email message in any easily understandable way in order to build excitement about the new product in various parts of the company. Other example in recent times is related to request from sales to technical support for “a list of the biggest problems with our hot products”. Sales and marketing team need to communicate and collaborate with technical support team in order to list the problems in the products based on the customer complaints and troubleshooting issues in recent times. But there is no specific instructions from the sales team in the request message to the technical team, without specifying any guidelines in order to identify the problems in the hot selling new products it’s hard to list all the issues efficiently. It would be better to include R&D department in order to filter all the technical issues and to provide a product specified...

...Vagueness, Ambiguity, and Clarity in Writing CRT/205 October 3, 2013 Vagueness, Ambiguity, and Clarity in Writing The two examples I chose to analyze were examples two and three. Both of the writing samples were vague and ambiguous leaving questions and curiosity as to what the author was intending. Without the clarity in the writing, the audience is left to assume what the author’s true meaning is, but not ever really knowing if they are correct. In example two the author states, “I was thrown from my truck as it left the road. I was later found in a ditch by a flock of wild turkeys.” The vagueness in the writing is found in the first sentence. As the audience, we are unsure if the author meant another person in the vehicle physically threw him out of the truck or if author was involved in a car accident and when truck went off the side of the rode the impact ejected him from the vehicle. With this statement being as vague as it is, the possibility could be either. Ambiguity is present in the second sentence, in particularly the word “by”. The way this sentence is worded, it is possible a flock of wild turkeys were the ones who found him in the ditch, or that someone else found him in a ditch near a flock of turkeys. Since the word “by” could be referring to who found him or in relation to where he was found the author could have intended either. The author states in example three, “Next Sunday a collection will be taken to help with the cost of the new altar. Anyone...

...Vagueness, Ambiguity and Clarity Critical Thinking CRT205 In the first example the organization is not named, the type of van is not named, and the conflict going on is not named, to say the least, the entire section is very vague and does not refer or mention any one thing that is going on. The second example does not mention who, how or what was thrown out of the truck, why the truck went off the road. The first example states "this particular case study will reflect an organization with a van that has undergoing internal conflict. It will also analyze the reason for the conflict and offer positive resolutions of this conflict. The project must first understand that conflict among the membership, its leaders, group or anyone attached did not just show up one day. Conflict has been in existence for a very long time. The religious leaders have a great responsibility to the congregation (and others who look for guidance and direction according to the scriptures). It does not matter what title he or she holds, if they are in a leadership role, they bare responsible and accountable." Being vague in the first example influences understanding because not one person that is reading it would know anything about what is going on with the organization. There is no who, what, where or how stated in any part of the example. How would anyone understand what the organization is, what van is being talked about, what the conflict is, and why religious leaders are involved. The second...

...Vagueness, Ambiguity, and Clarity in Writing CRT/205: Critical Thinking December 7, 2012 Gecobie Davis When I looked further into Capital punishment laws I found a very interested story about when it first started. The first established death penalty laws date as far back as the Eighteenth Century B.C. in the Code of King Hammurabi of Babylon, which codified the death penalty for 25 different crimes. The death penalty was also part of the Fourteenth Century B.C.'s Hittite Code; in the Seventh Century B.C.'s Draconian Code of Athens, which made death the only punishment for all crimes, and in the Fifth Century B.C.'s Roman Law of the Twelve Tablets. Death sentences were carried out by such means as crucifixion, drowning, beating to death, burning alive, and impalement. I think the United States should ban using capital punishment because many of them don’t do serious crimes then others. Look at the case of Brian Dugan is one of the people that the United States reconsider to use the capital punishment. I think if a person breaks the law any type of form of fashion they are responsible for their own actions. Brain Dugan execution took more than twice as normal time to do and appeared to some families member that was in a suffering process at the time of crime happen(Chicago tribune, 2011). I feel like the government is doing what they can to put these criminals in jail for killing, murdering, raping, and kidnapping another human being. I think by giving them life in...

...Vagueness, Ambiguity, and Clarity in Writing Denise Cook CRT/205 November 18, 2012 Professor Freda Trujillo The first example in which I chose was Example 2, “I was thrown from my truck as it left the road. I was later found in a ditch by a flock of wild turkeys.” The first sentence is an example of vagueness because it does not tell us if he had an accident but it tells us enough to make the assumption that there was an accident. The second sentence is an example of ambiguity because it could mean that he was found by a flock of wild turkeys or it could mean that someone found him by a flock of wild turkeys in a ditch. The second example in which I chose was Example 3, “Next Sunday a collection will be taken to help with the cost of the new altar. Anyone wanting to help to do something on the new altar can step forward and let the committee know.” The first sentence is an example of vagueness because it does not tell us how much the new altar will cost or how much of a donation in which they need, but it is enough information given for you to make the assumption that they need money for a new altar. The second sentence is an example ambiguity because it could mean that anyone who wants to help with building the altar can step forward or it could mean anyone who wants to give money to help pay for the new altar can step forward. According to Chapter 3, vagueness plays a very important role in much that we do. Vagueness is often intentional, used as a means...

...The examples I chosen are: Example 2 I was thrown from my truck as it left the road. I was later found in a ditch by a flock of wild turkeys. Example 3 Next Sunday a collection will be taken to help with the cost of the new altar. Anyone wanting to help to do something on the new altar can step forward and let the committee know. In example 2, as far as being vague, it is not clear as to what the writer meant by being thrown off his truck. By being thrown off it could probably mean that he was force out from the back end of the truck. It may also mean that he was force out of truck by friend. May that his friend hitting something in the road that may have caused him to be force out from the back of the truck. In the second sentence he says that he was later found by a flock of wild turkeys. To me the novelist may be stipulating that the flock of wild turkeys found him lying in a ditch, or maybe that a man had found him in the ditch lying next to the flock of wild turkeys. In the 3rd example, to me this is vague simply I am not quite certain what is being accumulated. It may be a contribution of pieces of merchandise or ready cash. And in the second sentence it is asking if anybody wants to lend a hand by doing something on the altar to let the board know. It is not clear to anyone who reads this as to what the board is asking what needs to be done to the new altar. These sentences are ambiguous simply since while anyone who is reading each example, there is several...

...Vagueness, Ambiguity, and Clarity in Writing Holly Minor CRT/205 June 15, 2013 Vagueness, Ambiguity, and Clarity in Writing Vague and ambiguous writing results in misinterpretation of the information within the writing. When writing is unclear, a reader may find difficulty in understanding the intent of the writing. On the other hand, a certain level of vagueness is adequate. “When a claim is not too vague to convey appropriately useful information, its level of vagueness is acceptable.” (Moore & Parker, 2012, p. 73). To illustrate the effect vagueness and ambiguousness has on a written work; two writing examples are deconstructed and analyzed. Example 1 [1]This particular case study will reflect an organization with a van that has undergoing internal conflict. [2]It will also analyze the reason for the conflict and offer positive resolutions of this conflict. [3]The project must first understand that conflict among the membership, its leaders, group or anyone attached did not just show up one day. [4]Conflict has been in existence for a very long time. [5]The religious leaders have a great responsibility to the congregation (and others who look for guidance and direction according to the scriptures). [6]It does not matter what title he or she holds, if they are in a leadership role, they bare responsible and accountable. ...My partner and I have produced a script describing the love story of our actor’s known as ‘Jacob’ and ‘Clarity’. We have used the normal conventions to create a script based of sonnet 18. The components we used in the script were: stage direction, dialogue, scene titles, character and character personalities. The reason we used stage directions was to tell the actors where they should be and what actions they should do and how they react to certain things. The reason we used dialogue was to enable our messages to be conveyed threw the actors. The reason we used scene titles was so that the actors knew what scene was in action and to avoid confusion and mix-ups in-between each scene. The reason why we used characters and gave them unique characteristics...

Blood diamonds, also classified as conflict diamonds, are diamonds mined in a war zone and sold for the funding of a rebellion or uprising. ...Elements of a Marketing Plan, Clarity Will Terrill MKT/421 February 22, 2016 Michael Ricco Elements of a Marketing Plan, Clarity Whether a company is just starting out or is trying to generate better results from current marketing techniques and strategies, it all begins with a marketing plan. A marketing plan is a guide for the marketing department of a company for a set time in the future, this could be 2 year or 7 years (Kerin, Hartley, & Rudelius, 2015). While each plan differs from one company to the next, there are some key features that need to be included. A marketing plan should include an analysis of where the business is, who the target market is, what the goals are for the selected time frame, what tactics are going to be used, and how much will it cost. It is important to keep the marketing plan up to date. This paper will be looking at and breaking down the marketing plan of Clarity, a division of Plantronics. Environmental Forces That Create Opportunity In the business world, the environment is always changing. Clarity has seen many changes through the years. All of which has forced Clarity to change how and who they market to. Clarity began 47 years ago as a handset developer and has since transformed into a multifaceted company that develops handsets, telephones, notification systems, and personal TV listeners. Why does this matter? It shows how much Clarity has changed due to the changing technological environment in which this company resides...

WILTERMUTH University of Southern California FRANCIS J. FLYNN Stanford University We propose that power increases how severely people punish transgressors. Further, we argue that this greater severity stems from an increased sense of moral clarity instilled by the psychological experience of power. We investigate the linkages among power, moral clarity, and punishment across multiple studies. Individuals with an increased sense of power advocated more severe punishments for transgressors than did those with a diminished sense of power. Further, moral clarity mediated the link between power and severity of punishment. We discuss the implications of these findings for managers in organizations and researchers interested in punitive reactions to moral transgressions. Ethical standards of professional conduct often are implicit or tacitly held (Flynn & Wiltermuth, 2010; Haidt, 2001; Turiel, 2002), making it difficult for members of organizations to know which types of behavior are permissible and which are not (Treviño, 1986). Although many employees can and do seek guidance on moral matters from colleagues (Treviño, 1990), the advice they receive often varies according to whom they ask. Coworkers can send mixed signals about what constitutes morally appropriate behavior. Indeed, the viewpoints expressed by top...
