There are a lot of people out there advertising their services for 'Executive Coaching', 'Leadership Coaching' and 'Business Coaching'. Many have coaching certifications from top universities, some work at larger coaching firms and others even have Fortune 500 clients. The problem is that a very vanilla, packaged and unoriginal approach dominates the industry across both individual and larger coaching companies. Most people use the same tools and techniques (360-degree surveys, personality tests, strength finders, etc.) that cause their approaches and results to become stale and predictable, and most importantly, less useful for their clients. After work activities, family, kids and other responsibilities make it very difficult to create time for developing their professional career anywhere outside their office, and hey, all the information they are trying to address is right there too. But in order to increase awareness about a situation, develop new ways of thinking and gain the new perspective that will enable them to break through to the next level, it is necessary to get out of the office! Whether the coach works with you while taking a walk, hanging upside down off monkey bars in a park, talking in a museum in between exhibits or swimming in Lake Michigan, that crucial breakthrough and unique perspective is not going to magically appear while you are in the same setting, doing the same thing, surrounded by the same people in the same …show more content…
Many have excellent resumes, impressive client lists and look great in a suit! However, they almost always use the same, bland approach built on standard methodologies, 360-degree surveys, personality tests (very subjective based on your current mood), coaching tools and techniques that are packaged for everyone, and may only work for a handful of people. They still have the Big 6 consulting mindset of a body shop where the goal is to get as many people facing the client as possible and bill them for as many hours as you can. If you are with them 12 hours, you pay for 12 hours. You pay for their time, not actual results. The 'Packaged Approach' will only go so far in today's quickly-changing and far more dynamic world.

Pay for Results: The new approach is to develop customized coaching programs based on each client's goals and objectives and charge them based on achieving these agreed upon results. You can charge by the hour, the project or on a retainer, but if the client does their part successfully and the goals are not met, the coach receives no payment. After all, if you don't achieve your goals, what are you paying
