...In my college days, I was associated with Prayaas, a student’s initiative for teaching the under-privileged children of the nearby locality of our college and provide them a better education by providing them stationeries, books and tutoring them. To help with the financial requirement of the Prayaas, we collected newspapers, old books –copies from our batch mates, seniors, juniors in different hostels, which were later sold for making paper bags. We also sold Prayaas T-Shirts among our college mates so that we can generate funds for providing stationeries, books and copies to those children. And on weekend evening, we took out 1-2 hours of time to teach and guided the children. We team members had tough time initially convincing the guardian-parents of the children to make their children attend our classes. So we started with small number of children who were ready and seeing our dedication and sheer effort, other children also stated attending the sessions. because most of them had this notion that they have to pay for this tuition classes and they did not see any reason why they should send their wards to these session when they are already sending them schools. But we explained them that despite they are attending classes, these students must have some doubts, issues regarding their academics so that we can guide them. I would like to recall the college incident again when I was serving as the Joint-Treasurer of the Cultural Society of the college. The Cultural...

My first day at college is an important event of my life. To me it is an unforgettable day. During my school days. I had a glimpse of college life from my elder brothers and sisters. I was most curiously awaiting the day when I would start my college life. I thought that the college life would offer me a free life; here restrictions would be few and threat of teachers would be little. At last the longed for day came in. I was admitted to the Government College of my city. I entered the college premises with new hopes and aspirations. I was glad to see that the college presented a new sight. It was quite different from what I had seen in and around our school. I came across many unknown faces. ...The last day of college, finally I get to spend my summer break with my two best friends Amanda and Bethany. We have planned to travel to three different countries this year, the most exciting part about it is that all the countries we are visiting are islands. With seas and oceans as clear as a pure diamond, so we get to tan and get some Vitamin D. We have organized to travel to the Maldives, Bora Bora, and Bali. We arranged to meet at our local Starbucks to finalize everything for tomorrow. At about Six Am the next day, I woke up to a beautiful sunny morning. The sun poured through the windows as I got ready. I put on my favorite pink hoodie, got my plane carry-on ready, and headed out of my apartment. Our flight was at Nine Am, we all met...

...Imagine working for multiple hours a day, putting in hard work and dedication and not getting paid. This is the life of a college athlete. If going to school isn't already stressful enough, imagine adding practice multiple times a day, working a job (if possible), doing homework, and finding time to relax all into that one 24-hour period. College athletes should get paid because their restricting schedules denies them the opportunity to work. The National Collegiate Athletic Association(NCAA) is a multi-million dollar non-profit association in charge of thousands of athletes. The 460,000 plus athletes compete in 24 sports year-round which are divided into divisions appropriate for the school of their attendance. Of those 460,000 plus athletes, none of them receive any type of payment for their services legally. They can receive things of monetary value illegally, but this would unnecessarily if they got paid for their services. People or even you may wonder why this topic is important. The importance of this topic is that it's been a rising issue for years but there has never been an answer to this issue. Hopefully, I can help with the issue but for now let's discuss why they should get paid. The famous Ball brothers Lonzo (19) and LaMelo (15) were both scouted and drafted from early on in their basketball careers. They...

...Financial Services, 81% of parents with college-bound kids between the ages of 16-18 say attending college “Greatly affects their child's success.” Despite this, 75% of parents say they worry about covering the cost of college. Should such an important step in the life of many young adults be so drastically overpriced? Paying for a college education without taking out loans developed into impractical idea. In effect, most young adults have large amounts of debt in advance to them starting their carrier. Although some people believe college tuition is fairly priced, colleges and universities take advantage of the students feeling that a college education determines their success. On the other hand, supporters of the current college tuition average mostly credit a high inflation rate, a high increase in the demand for a college education and a high increase in the number of professors. For example, an argument...

...How much money do colleges and universities make because of their athletes? It is safe to say, they make millions. The top NCAA executives are paid about 1 million every year and coaches make about $100,000. How much to the college players make $0! Let us really clear up this picture! Being an athlete is a full-time job. On a typical day, a player will wake up before classes, about 5am, get a lift or conditioning session in, go to classes until 3 or 4 p.m., go to practice, go to mandatory study hall, and then finish homework or study for a test. College athletes end their day around 10pm. From an article "Why College Athletes should be Paid" by Tyson Hartnett, he shared a story about a roommate who played while in college. "For a little extra money to see a movie or go out to dinner once a week, my freshman roommate worked a job at the university, earning about $7/hour. He would work his butt off all day, with two or sometimes three basketball training sessions, plus classes and homework, and go to that job for a few hours late at night. He would come back exhausted, but he needed whatever money they would pay him. However, once the season started up, he couldn't work that job anymore. We were on the road all the time, even gone for two straight weeks at one point. The teachers let us do our work from the road, but the job wasn't going to pay you just because you were playing basketball on a road trip. The team gave us meal money (about $7 per meal) so we could get chips and...

It requires a lot more critical thinking than a Bachelors degree program and you have to be prepared to put in the effort. There are some concepts that were discussed in the Lecture and Research Update that will help me to complete my graduate program; three of which are: setting goals and completing tasks, systematically working through the coursework and using the APA (American Psychological Association) format for presenting work completed. The Masters Program at Ashworth College is self-paced with no deadlines but it has a syllabus so it is easy to follow. Having no deadlines may lead to procrastination; therefore it is imperative that I manage my time to complete my studies. I would schedule blocks of regular study time by using a calendar and trying to follow it. As with all plans; occasionally other situations arise that will force me to readjust my schedule. Instead of making up the time lost I will just continue...

...An examination of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the current rules they have in place to see if college athletes need to receive some type of compensation for playing sports. What is the percentage that graduate with sports scholarships compared to without sports scholarships? Additionally, there are a lot of questions that everyone such as media/country is trying to get answers to and a new stance on this whole thing. Just, a couple questions to try to figure out are, “What rules are in place now that prohibit athletes from receiving pay for play?” Also, do college athletes even receive/earn their college degrees when on sport scholarships? There is a statistic out there that most college athletes in fact do not...

...extra hard to make you a better player and you are not making a penny but someone else is. If you are an NCAA athlete this is what happens to you. Being to play any sort of college sport makes you a more elite athlete then most people. Imagine how many people played your sport in high school and now you play in college and they don’t. Now comes the long-term argument; should college athletes get paid? Obviously there are two sides for this argument, yes they should get paid and no they should not. I think college athletes should get paid, I think it would help them financially and it would...

...I want to go to Middle College because: I seek an environment of learners who enjoy learning. At Livermore High School, there is much emphasis on grades, such that it has taken the joy out of learning in most people. At Middle College, being able to choose your classes and arrange your schedules would help people rekindle their passion for learning. Since a class often does not meet every single day, there is more emphasis on learning rather than achieving a certain grade. Only when my environment agrees with me and is more focused on learning and the joy of acquiring knowledge, can I do well. I seek to be with people who are confident in their abilities. I’m tired of people saying “I think,” rather than “I know.” I mean, it is because of this fine distinction that I myself have adopted “I think” to avoid mistaking myself for the person who would be utilized by others, as a tool, for academic help. I am done being in an environment that does not allow me to be confident without making me seem like a tool that can be used....

...Also college sports take up a lot of time which minimizes a chance for internship opportunities, being able to get a job, and an overall college experience. In most jobs you are required a certain amount of hours of experience or an internship. It is impossible for these athletes to get the chance to do those opportunities with their crazy schedules. Also eighty percent of college students work jobs to support themselves with food and clothes, while away from home. Many college athletes have complained of going to bed hungry because they do not have enough money for food. Other students who don’t have a job in college are supported mostly by their parents and family members sending them money for help. Likewise, if these athletes don’t have time for a job and 86% of them are below the poverty line when they...

...Don’t you hate it when you work so hard your whole life for something and get no help at all? That’s how college athletes feel. They work every day to achieve their dream, while participating in classes, and having a job to pay off college fees. As many of you may be wondering, why should we just pay for college athletes if they are already half way to achieving their dream? College students go to school to achieve their dream and they are not going to reach it by having such a large payment. A report from Top college athletes worth 6 figures stated “The average fair market value of top-tier college football and men's basketball players is over $100,000 each, and the athletes are entitled to at least a portion of that, a new report from an advocacy group argues....

...Should College Athletes be Paid? Why should college athletes be paid or not? In this article it says, “Big time college football and basketball programs generate billions a year in TV and marketing contracts, tickets sales, and merchandising.” Why I choose this topic is because If the college players don't bring any money for the TV , tickets, and merchandising then that is wrong. They should, at least, have 10% of what they sell that has the player's last name on it .I am on the pro side why I am is because If a person buys an item that has something to do with them, then they should be paid a little amount of what the regular price is of the item. I am going to tell you a few Pros about college players getting paid. First of all, in the text it says, “ Big time college football and basketball programs generate billions a year.” My question is how does the franchise make billions a year. They make billions a year from the players who, when the games and consistently bowl games and don't even bring a little bit poor because people consider they are amateurs and they will do something poor with the money like use it on things that...

...In our every day routine, we are destined to hear the word College, college, and college. The main drive and goal of many students including myself at this age is getting into a top-notch college virtually guaranteeing future success. However for me, college is a whole new ball game and is not only important for future success, but a broader and bigger bubble. My background actually plays a huge role on why college is important to attend. I come from an immigrant family who has worked day and night to earn money. My mother is both educated and have associate’s degree from India. My dad is educated, but has not gone college. I will be the first one to go to college in America, the country of opportunity. My family’s dearth of education yields that my family background plays an important role in the reason for me to attend college. Attending college is important for me because my parents lacked a phenomenal education, which comes down for me to carry my family pride and attend a rigorous college....
