I'm sure many of us have tried coloring our hair at home and just follow the directions on the box. If you are planning on doing this by yourself, there are many imperfections that you and others might notice: missing patches of the hair, applying the dye unevenly, and dye getting on your skin when washing it out. The first thing you need to do it find the right color fr your hair. If you're dying your hair for the first time, try to find a dye that isn't a drastic change in color. Next, you can start the process of actually dying your hair. Cover up your neck with an old towel and wear the gloves provided. Make sure you are wearing an old piece of clothing that you wouldn't mind throwing away if you got dye on it. You may want to use some petroleum jelly around your hair line, to keep the dye from staning your skin. Now to start dying your hair, take the dye and pour it in the bottle provided and shake it up very well. Clip up the parts that you're not ready to dye. Gradually apply the dye to the hair that isn't clipped up. It's easier to work the dye into your hair of you use a comb. Work from one side to the next, applying the dye with the use of the comb. When finished coloring each section, don't disturb the color in your hair for the amount of time prescribed in the directions. After your hair is put up in some kind of bun, wipe the dye off, if any, that got on you with a damp towel or baby wipe. After the time is up, wash your hair with warm water and shampoo. Repeat twice to remove leftover color. Apply the conditioner that came with the hair coloring kit, let the conditioner sit in your hair for five minutes and then rinse it another two times. Blow dry and style if desired.
