Belonging to a team in the broader sense is the result of feeling something larger than you. It has a lot to do with your understanding of the mission or the objectives of your organization. Even if you have a specific job function or belong to a specific department, you need to be unified with other members of the organization in order to make a meaningful contribution to its overall success. Teamwork was a part of my undergraduate degree and I consider myself to be a strong team player when and where necessary. I have also experienced taking a back seat and allowing more capable members to take the leadership role. I was open to criticism and consider it essential to share something which might bring out a better performance. I have worked independently as well as in a team; some jobs match and require a teamwork effort while others fit an individual work. There usually is no team, neither professional or personal that has not faced some problems and disagreement among teammates. However, when working on a team in the workplace, each team member is not only responsible for his or her task but also responsible for the progress of the team goals as a whole. Challenges that I faced during the course of my group project were the various personalities as well as time management issues with team members. I have had some instances where there has been some kind of strong disagreement among my team members. Normally I wouldn’t pay attention to the issue for the first few days because I have faith in the professionalism of my team partners. However; if the problem is not solved over a period of time, I make sure I speak to any and all team members who are involved in the

...A Team Experience While taking the required Business 305 course, I was assigned to a group in order to complete a required project. The subject we decided to write about was the scandal created by AIG Insurance and its effects on the economy. Based on the abundance of information available for this topic, the group believed that we would have no problems completing the project. Everyone in the group seemed to be a team player in the early stages of our brainstorming sessions. The group decided to divide the tasks at hand between the 4 members, and we were confident that each one of us would easily accomplish our portion of the assignment. During our class meetings, we briefly consulted one another about the progress each of us was making. Everyone in the group seemed to be moving along just fine. The group decided to schedule a time to meet, in order to discuss our progress thus far or any questions we might have. At the first meeting, one of the group members did not show up, even though she said she was available. The 3 of us who showed up decided to continue without her. At the next class meeting, the person who did not show apologized for her absence and told us that everything was just fine on her end. ...Introduction: Individual Reflection on Team Experience Today in many industries and organizations group/team work is a tool for effective achievement of organizational goals. Understanding the way groups develop and how they impact organizational success is important to the effective use of groups in organizations. One of the most common models to describe how groups develop was described by Tuckman. Tuckman studied group development as it was seen in group therapy. This was then extrapolated to involve the development of all groups and teams that exist in areas such as those seen in organizations. In 1966, Tucker proposed that group development progressed through four identifiable stages which were named forming, storming, norming and performing. The Tuckman model for the stages of group development is one of the most cited models in the business world. Over the years there were other studies that also agreed that groups go through stages and they had identified that there appeared to be an “ending” stage as well. In 1977 Tuckman with Jensen reviewed who the stages of group development had evolved over the years since his first proposal of the stages of group development and in response to other studies they added a final stage of group development which the called adjourning (Tuckman & Jensen, 1977).
