Common Core is Common Snore
Common Core are national standards of education. Educators think the are a curse but some believe they are a blessing. Teachers in states that have adopted this are unhappy about the amount of tests that the students have to take. While some believe that Common Core will refresh the United States’ Education System. “Common Core State Standards are a set of uniform expectations for American students in English language arts and mathematics.” (Callejo Pérez). The issue of Common Core is important today society because it has just been implemented into the state of Ohio.

Picus he explains how prior attempts at a national educational standards have failed. In the article he says, “The No Child Left Behind Act has stirred controversy. Most educators and teachers organizations support the goals of the act. But many say that the federal government has failed to provide adequate funding to carry out testing, provide extra tutoring, and meet other requirements of the law. Critics charge that too many schools will unfairly face punishments. To respond to this criticism, in 2008 the U.S. secretary of education announced a program that would allow up to 10 states to ease penalties for schools that did well overall but had low test scores for certain groups of students. By 2014, 43 states and Washington, D.C., had been granted waivers. The waivers freed the schools in those states from meeting the 2014 deadline of NCLB requirements for math and reading. In return, the states agreed to adopt other measures to aid student and teacher performance.” (Picus). What this means is that the No Child Left Behind was a big flop and that it was not well regulated. How this relates to common core is that common core is NCLB, but much more strict on teachers, and also …show more content…
The reason teachers started to do this was because there jobs and livelihood depended on students knowing how to take the test. What this meant was that teachers were frightened by The new education act. Most teachers were afraid that if there students didn't do well on the standardized tests that they would lose their jobs. If teachers are afraid of losing their jobs over a simple standardized test then they may start teaching kids how to test instead of actually teaching the
