...Communication and Crisis Janelle Ovunda HCS/320 January 28, 2013 Kimberly Foster Introduction Being the director of a regional Emergency Management Office during a crisis I will have to have control. Without control the crisis will turn into a catastrophe. With an effective contingency plan in place this will help me to stay in control of the situation. I will also have alternate plans put in place just in case my key plans do not happen as expected. It will take everyone involved inside and outside of the Emergency Management Office working together to make sure the crisis is worked through and that the public remains calm. Individuals or Groups That Will Be Communicating Inside and Outside the Organization during the Crisis Anyone who communicates inside and outside the organization should be key to the crisis. There should be one person assigned to each role in my crisis communication team. In a large crisis there might be a need to go outside of my main office for support from volunteers or a nearby college [ (Services, 2006) ]. The people inside the communication team will consist of the public information officer, content and messages coordinator, media coordinator, direct public outreach coordinator, partner coordinator, and the rumor control coordinator. Each one on these will have a role to follow. The public information officer will activate the risk communication plan and direct the work related to the release of information [ (Services, 2006)...

...Vehicle Accident Prevention Using eye Blink Sensor Abstract: Now a day’s accidents are increasing at a large pace, and various technologies are being introduced to reduce the accidents. In this project we provide means of accident prevention using eye blink wherein the vehicle is stopped immediately and intimated wherever needed. In this project we have two sections. One is transmitter section which is located in the vehicle and another one is Receiver section located in remote place (Police station, near ones, etc). In the transmitter section the eye blink sensor is placed near the eye to sense the blink count and this information is transmitted in the form of pulses and is given to the Microcontroller. The Microcontroller uses this information to compare with the normal eye blink programmed in the chip and if any abnormal situation arises the vehicle is stopped with an alarm indication, this operation is enabled by means of the driver circuit connected to the vehicle motor and the signal is transmitted via RF-transmitter at the frequency of 433.92 MHz. In the Receiver side the transmitted signal is received and the signal is decoded and given to the Microcontroller, which uses this information for displaying the alert message in the LCD as programmed, simultaneously a buzzer alert is given. ...Business Communication Trends Paper LaTonya Beeler COM 285 November 21, 2010 Annie Moats Communication is the foundation of a successful business. High-quality communication is the quintessence of a business because organizations involve people. The people in organizations need to communicate to hire, manage, train, and promote products. Lack of communication can be very costly and time consuming to an organization. The communication of a business can determine the success or failure of a business. The current trends in the workplace are changing allowing employees to gain easy access to improve work performance. The following paper will explain the role business communication play in my daily work activities, the trends in the workplace and what message types are results of these trends. “Communication takes many forms: face-to-face or phone conversations, informal meetings, presentations, e-mail messages, letters, memos, reports, blogs, text messaging and Web sites” (Locker & Kienzler, 2008, p. 5). I work in the local school district in the city I live in. I am a substitute, so I work when the schools in the district need an extra body in the classroom. I do not have to do much written communication however; I do have to communicate orally with the teacher, students, and human resources at the district office. Whenever there is an assignment open either someone at the district will call to ask if I want to accept the assignment or someone at the district will input...

...Kelsey Vanwey Jim Tanoos Consumer Behavior Saturday March 7, 2015 Chapter 9 8. Discuss the role of headlines in a print advertisement. What is the difference between a direct headline and an indirect headline and when might each type be used? “A headline has 5-7 seconds to get the attention of a reader. Not only that, but statistics show that only 2 out of 10 readers will read past your headline. That means if you’re going to hook your reader, you need to do it right away” (8 Types of Headlines that Compel Your Readers to Action, 2009). In addition to grabbing the reader’s attention, the headline must offer some type of value to the reader in exchange for them taking the time to read your piece. “Direct headlines are straightforward and informative in terms of the message they are presenting and the target audience they are directed toward. A direct headline may be used when someone or somewhere is offering a specific benefit, making a promise, or announcing a reason the reader should be interested in the product or service” (George E. Belch, 2014). For example, an ad “LandlordMax – 30% off today only” (8 Types of Headlines that Compel Your Readers to Action, 2009). “An indirect headline is not straightforward about identifying the product or service or getting to the point. However, they are often more effective at attracting readers’ attention and interest because they provoke curiosity and lure readers into the body copy to learn an answer or get an explanation...

...technology business are often most successful when their products become industrywide platforms. The term “platform,” though, is used in many different contexts and can be difficult to understand. I am currently finishing a book on best-practice ideas in strategy and innovation, and include a chapter on how platform thinking has evolved.1 This column summarizes some of my findings. Most readers have probably heard the term platform used with reference to a foundation or base of common components around which a company might build a series of related products. This kind of in-house “product platform” became a popular topic in the 1990s for researchers exploring the costs and benefits of modular product architectures and component reuse.2 32 communicATio ns o f TH e Acm I was among this group, having studied reusable components and design frameworks in Japanese software factories, reusable objects at Microsoft, and reusable underbody platforms at automobile manufacturers.3 Product versus industry Platforms In the mid- and late 1990s, various researchers and industry observers, including myself, also began discussing technologies such as Microsoft Windows and the personal computer, as well as the browser and the Internet, as “industrywide platforms” for information technology. Most of us saw the PC as competing with an older industry platform—the IBM System 360 family of mainframes. It took a few more years to devise frameworks to help managers use the concept of an industry...

General Motors and other automobile makers that cannot efficiently operate at low production volumes and make money with small, fuel-efficient vehicles with tiny profit margins will face the same fate as vacuum tube producers that could not adapt to transistors. Let me say up front that I do not completely agree with the population ecologist view. I have worked with many companies since the 1980s and believe the actions of managers had an important impact on performance and survival. I also teach in a business school where, we presume, it is worthwhile teaching h a rle S d a rW in h aS had considerable impact not only on the field of biology but also on theories of industry evolution and management. Within sociology departments and business schools, for example, during the 1970s and 1980s there emerged a strain of “population ecologists” that continues to influence much of the research on organizations and industries today. These scholars see a Darwinian process of survival that occurs at the “population” (the industry) level and has little to do with the actions (or inactions) of individual managers and firms. The argument, in simple form, is that most companies are unable to adapt to major change and...

A true social group exhibits some degree of social cohesion and is more than a simple collection or aggregate of individuals, such as people waiting at a bus stop, or people waiting in a line. Characteristics shared by members of a group may include interests, values, representations, ethnic or social background, and kinship ties. Paul Hare regards the defining characteristic of a group as social interaction.[2] The members of the groups contact each other which Ackeema Johnson calls a "regular interaction." This group also should have, a common identity, rules, structure, etc Most researchers define a small group as having at least three and no more than twelve or fifteen members. A group needs to have at least three members, otherwise it would simply be a dyad. With three members, coalitions can be formed and...
