The communiqués from week four learning team assignment included short reports such as email, formal short report, and memo. The communication within all reports conveyed the results of JJJ financials, instability of JJJ and recommending not moving forward with the acquisition. Also conveyed the status of due diligence investigation of JJJ Company. A more appropriate type of communication would be a report with graphs showing William, CEO of Riordan, the profits Riordan would gain or loss by investing with JJJ Company. Another graph showing stockholders dividend. William wanted John’s advise for accounting oversight details and by using graphs, the CEO would see where JJJ’s financials stand. William, CEO, would be able to make a better choice of moving forward with the acquisition or not. Week four learning team communiqués were written to the appropriate audience. John, Accounting Manager, communicated JJJ Company’s instability and advised William that moving forward on the acquisition with JJJ could burden Riordan Manufacturing. Beth advised Mark, Sales Manager, that Riordan could increase their sale goals by joining JJJ, which is what Mark, was focused on accomplishing. When it came to communicating to Dana, Marketing Manager, Beth did very well with pointing out that JJJ was not financially stable at that time. However, Beth and John would reconsider merging with JJJ if they collect on the sales that are pending. Beth also suggested having Dana work with JJJ on increasing their sales and progress. Beth communicated very well with her accounting peers on the status of the JJJ investigation. Beth’s leadership style seemed to be the least affective by allowing everyone else to make the decision. When she wrote to her accounting peers, she mentioned that she would support their decision on moving forward with the acquisition or not. Depending on how much knowledge her peers have on the investigation, Beth’s peers could make a poor decision. On the other hand, Beth was open and available to give feedback and consultation when communicating to Mark. The communiqués were informative. Each report conveyed just the right amount of information to the intended audience. The ethical implications being shared throughout the communiqués gave strategies for improving JJJ’s impact on Riordan and help lead JJJ and Riordan to more positive outcomes for current or future customers and stockholders.

...MEMORANDUM TO: Chief Executive Officer FROM: Accounting Team DATE: July 19, 2011 SUBJECT: Acquisition Undertaking an acquisition is one of the ways through which a firm can attain an optimal market position (Ross, 2011, para. 1). The resultant effect is that the firm’s competitive advantage is enhanced. In undertaking an acquisition, a significant amount of money is required for the acquisition to be successful. Prior to implementing an acquisition decision, a firm’s management team should conduct a comprehensive analysis to determine whether it is prepared to undertake the acquisition. One of the ways through which a firm can attain this is by evaluating its financial stability. The aim of conducting a financial analysis is to determine whether the acquisition will result into attainment of the desired synergy. In most cases, acquisitions are characterized by a 50-50 probability of succeeding. In the event of financial instability, the probability of attaining the desired synergy is limited. Upon conducting a financial analysis of the firm’s financial statements, it was evident that the firm was facing a serious financial instability. Firstly, the share price of the company was relatively low. This means that the acquisition would not lead into value addition through improvement in the share price of the acquiring company. In this case, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Riordan Company intends to improve the price of the firm’s share through the acquisition...

Communique Review Memo

...Communique Review Memo To: Herber Howard From: Nicolle Pack Subject: Communique Review Date: 03/03/14 The communications for Team B were to the Marketing manager, the Sales manager and the Accountant-Peer. These were all written as formal memos. After a review of these communications, I think that the information was presented in the correct communicational format. However, I do feel that some of the communiques could have included more information specific to the information they were to be presenting. The memo to the Marketing manager did not covey the intended message. I think that the information provided was too vague. The writer should have included more information related to the marketing aspect of the business and what would have to be done in order to successfully promote the business, if acquired, in these current market areas. For the purpose of this assignment I do not feel that another form of communication would have been better. If the Marketing manager was to base his decision, to acquire JJJ Company or not, solely upon the information in the memo, I think would be ethically incorrect. The information provided in this memo is not sufficient to derive any decisions as to the acquisition of JJJ Company. The memo to the Sales manager was written more clearly and effectively. The information presented was more related to the sales side of the business. However, I still feel that more sales specific information could have been presented. The writer did not...

Evaluating Business Communication

...different types of communiqués in business situations; formal and informal based on the context of the communiqué and the intended audience. I recently participated in a team project where we were instructed to send communiqués to four audiences based on the purpose of the communiqué and the receiving audience while projecting the senders leadership style; for the following I will be evaluating the four communiqués my team submitted. In the communiqué sent to the CEO of Riordan Manufacturing, John, the accounting manager, was to advise the CEO of the financial instability of JJJ Company and recommend not moving forward with the acquisition. For this communiqué our team collectively agreed that a formal memo would be the best communication for the audience and purpose, I stand by this decision. The memo was a more formal approach as it was intended for the CEO, which showcased his leadership style more direct and to the point. The structure and layout of the memo was assembled with less of a personal feel as is seen common in e-mails or text to a coworker. The information conveyed in the memo was factual pertaining to the purpose of the memo in regard to the financial instability of JJJ Company. I do not think this memo shared too much or too little information. There was no question of ethics present in the memo as it was examining the instability of the company and it was specifically sent to the CEO. Emails were chosen as the communiqués for the other...

...Business Communication Sarah Schondel XBCOM/230 Jere Wilson 03/16/2014 Evaluating Business Communication The First Communique (Angela McMullen) The communication conveyed the intended message very well. I feel that it was the appropriate communique used and no other type of communication would have been appropriate. The reason is that with the situation being used better illustrates what is going on. I feel that it was at the appropriate level for the intended audience. The leadership styles in the scenario affected the communication in the group by allowing the group to know certain information. Only the information that they need to know. Honestly, there would be no changes that I would recommend to improve this type of communique. The ethical implications of the information being shared is whether or not to merge the companies. Some concerns that they might have. The communication does not share too much information and may share a little less information. I wouldn’t say it was too little information. It was just enough information that is needed until the other responds. Considering the ethical implications affected my evaluation by allowing me to see what information is really important and whether or not it should be more formal or informal. Second Communique (Angela McMullen) The communication conveyed the intended message well but could have been more elaborate. No other type of communication...

...Central (AQC) and the group's strongest, most unruly franchise was strained," Barack Mendelsohn, a political scientist at Haverford College, writes. Their relationship "had always been more a matter of mutual interests than of shared ideology." According to Mendelsohn, Syria pushed that relationship to the breaking point. ISIS claimed that it controlled Jabhat al-Nusra, the official al-Qaeda splinter in Syria, and defied orders from al-Qaeda's leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, to back off. "This was the first time a leader of an al-Qaeda franchise had publicly disobeyed" a movement leader, he says. ISIS also defied repeated orders to kill fewer civilians in Syria, and the tensions led to al-Qaeda disavowing any connection with ISIS in a February communiqué. Today, ISIS and al-Qaeda compete for influence over Islamist extremist groups around the world. Some experts believe ISIS may overtake al-Qaeda as the most influential group in this area globally. 1. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) used to have a different name: al Qaeda in Iraq. US troops and allied Sunni militias defeated al Qaeda in Iraq during the post-2006 "surge" — but it didn't destroy them. The US commander in Iraq, General Ray Odierno, described the group in 2010 as down but...

Evaluating Business Communication

...In this course we have learned about different types of business communiques that are used formally with communicated with other business partners. The communiques that we learned about are email, memo, powerpoint presentation and report. First let’s talk about emails and how effective they are within the business. When it comes to how well it conveyed the message well the status of how the due diligence is was not clearly the focal point of the message and the recommendation overshadows the message that is trying to be conveyed. It was the right type communication to be used. Emails are best for when talking between peers because is not a formal message. The ethical implications are the sharing of information over an email can be seen by others if the email is hacked or if your peer decides to show someone that they shouldn’t have. The information could be that shouldn’t be seen by any other person other than your peer. Then we have a formal written memo to the Chief Executive Officer. The message was very forward about not moving on with the investment. A formal memo is the best way to talk to such a high authority within your company. It shows the professionalism within yourself to your higher making it look like you know exactly what you are talking about and believing in what you are saying to them. Next there is the powerpoint presentation. With the powerpoint presentation it is very easy to read and understand with the slides and animations. It flows very well making...

Nixon and China

...Nixon and the U.S. Rapprochement with the People’s Republic of China When Nixon began his presidency, the relations between the United States and China had been fraught ever since Mao Zedong’s Communist Party achieved power and established the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 1949. Less than a year later in 1950, the Korean War, in which American troops died at the hands of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, further exacerbated the situation. The next twenty years were characterized by American opposition to UN membership for Mainland China, three crises between the two nations in the Taiwan Straits, threats of nuclear attack, and the fighting of a proxy war in Vietnam. But the two decades of hostility and nonrecognition of the People’s Republic of China was brought to an end during President Richard Nixon’s administration, marked most prominently by Nixon’s historic visit to Mainland China in 1972. In ending this hostile estrangement, Nixon thus executed the first stage of a momentous diplomatic revolution in U.S. policy towards Communist China. This turning point, as Nixon and his National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger suggested, also “changed the world” by transforming a Cold War U.S.-Soviet bilateral international system into a tripolar one, in which powers are balanced and national interests are secured. In the process of the rapprochement, President Nixon, managed to show the world his sound judgment, pragmatic perspective, and negotiation strategy in the field...
