...A Complete Home Network Jorge J. Garcia Strayer University at Palm Beach Gardens, FL CIS106 Dr. Otto June 12, 2015 Abstract It is a daunting task to create a working business network from the ground up when all you are allotted in the budget is $1000 dollars. Every item purchased and configured will need to be the cheapest available in the market, some will even need to be acquired for free in order to meet the requirements. Needless to say labor charges and service or maintenance contracts, aside from ISP monthly charges, will not be part of the equation. As far as my 25+ years of experience goes, there would only be two reasons to accommodate such a ridiculous request: Either my younger brother is begging me to address this because he has no other choice and time is of the essence due to an opportunity which could not be passed up or I am being tasked to be overly creative for a hundred point project due in a college class. Let’s get creative then. A Complete Home Network If we have $1000 dollars to create this project then the first thing to look at is the computers involved as they will be sucking up the most from this budget. There is no explanation for what this office with a minimal budget will do therefore there is no idea as to what type of computing power or software requirements will be needed. In my book minimum budget means minimum requirements. There is no way to make all this work with desktop PCs. The market has made a 180 degree shift from laptops being more...

...Assignment 2: A Complete Home Network Jonathan Scholl Strayer University CIS106 Professor Jamshid Haghighi June 7, 2016 A Complete Home Network Introduction: I believe this is way more than enough money for an entire home network, but it also comes down to what the needs of everyone in the household are. If you have gamers or those with workstations, then you’ll definitely need to take into consideration that you’ll need better than average hardware. But some family members may only need a simple notebook, tablet, or even their smart phone to connect to the internet. Most people enjoy streaming applications such as Hulu, Netflix, and Crunchyroll. Before you start, you need to figure out what the network will be used for and tailor it to the needs of everyone who uses it. For this example, I’m going to use my own family’s network. It’s a simple network that will most likely be sufficient for the average family. Starting out, you need to research the internet service providers (ISPs) in your area. These can range from large companies to small local companies. If you do a lot of video streaming and gaming, then you’ll want a fairly good connection speed. I’d recommend going with at least 20Mbps download and 5Mbps upload. The company we use is a local company called Forsyth CableNet. Hardware: You’re ISP can provide you with rental modems. I believe this to be a great option because modems can be costly to replace if they’re damaged. It usually means adding a...

...TiVo Case Analysis A number of technology-based products have had sterling forecast demands as TiVo had before launching the product with some of them going on to disappoint and others living up to the up when they hit the market. Samsung mobile, in its flagship Galaxy S4Smartphone had initial extremely positive forecast on the demand due to the innovation and efficiency (Costello, 2013). They then went on to experience weakening demand due to supply chain challenges. Apple iPhone in recent years have seen their demand forecast fall short despite investing in landscape-changing innovation compared to its competitors. This is blamed on the saturated high-end smartphone market (Rigby, 2014). During the market research in focus groups conducted by Odyssey Research, consumers were shown how to install and use a TiVo prototype. They were also told the price of the set-top box once it went into the market. Several people in the focus groups raised concerns that TiVo was complicated and time consuming to set up while other felt that the price of the set-top box was too high and that they would wait until the prices fell before buying. The insight on buying process however indicated that husbands would initiate the decision to buy TiVo but they would have to consult the wives with their wives before purchasing a set-top box sue to the high price of TiVo. Participants in the study also showed that the decision to buy the TiVo set-top box would largely depend on references by trusted...

...leading multimedia retailers. Oddly enough, they were not the first company in the multimedia retail. HSN (Home Shopping Network) entered the market two years prior. Embedded in its name, QVC, is quality, value, and convenience. Televising to over 200 million households via cable and satellite services, they have spread throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and recently Italy. Small businesses and entrepreneurs have found they can appeal to a larger audience using QVC's airspace to promote their products to skeptical consumers. QVC has expanded to the Internet and created mobile shopping applications for smartphones and tablets to provide convenience to their customers. They also provided a credit program and a 30-day unconditional money-back guarantee. Their products were not just various, they were unique, and some of them were even exclusive. This advantage allowed them to overtake the other competitors within the industry. "Leading product categories include beauty, electronics, home goods, apparel and accessories, and jewelry." (QVC, 2015) Regularly scheduled programs offer the majority of products for QVC. They found that the idea of sight, sound and motion were the best way to sell a product. They felt that it was more effective than presenting a product in print or just putting the product on the store shelf. The QVC shopping network is available 24 hours a day which broadens the customer base for those who are working different work schedules...

...Case Study: The Business Strategies of QVC Group 2: Michael Kenlan Karen Maxwell Brian McKearney Tara Murphy Zach Smith MIE 480, Spring 2010 Dr. Washington Abstract John Segal founded QVC in West Chester, Pennsylvania in June of 1986, two years behind the launch of its predecessor, the Home Shopping Network. Despite this later emergence onto the cable scene, QVC surpassed its competitor quickly and has maintained a dominant position in the television-retail industry ever since. Never relinquishing its strong commitment to quality, value, and convenience, the company has strategically gained consumer confidence, brand loyalty, and a competitive advantage in the market. Today, QVC has shipped over a billion packages to customers worldwide, and generates an estimated $_________ in annual sales. There are many reasons that led QVC to become the industry leader in televised shopping. Entering the market in the shadow of The Home Shopping Network actually proved to be advantageous to the new company. The founding management of QVC was wise in examining its competitor’s strengths and weaknesses, and learning from these mistakes. QVC set out to break the existing mold and capture a larger audience with quality products. Another wise decision on the part of leadership was to employ experienced TV producers with expertise in the field which resulted in a professional and well-produced...

...Search your Class through Our Product Categories or From Our Search Bar (http://hwguiders.com/ ) Personal Computers on the Internet A personal computer can be connected to LAN (Local Area Network) by using a router. This type of network is a private network that links computers at a single location, such as at a home or office building. A computer with the LAN connection is allowed to different network components like files, software and devices like printers and fax machines with in the private area. A computer can be connected to a router using Ethernet cable, or a router can communicate wirelessly using radio waves. The Internet is wider than the LAN, basically it is network of networks, and it connects the different networks (LANs and/or MANs) available worldwide and makes them public. The internet connection is called WAN (Wide Area Network) that connects millions of smaller networks with over a billion computers connected at any given time. The most basic difference between a LAN and the Internet then, is that a LAN is private and localized, while the Internet is public and worldwide. A LAN is connected to a router using Ethernet cable but the internet links millions of networks through T1 telephone lines, fiber optic cable and other technologies. ...Khalifah Alcutt Professor Shade 1230 Project 1 As a System Administrator of the Home and Hospice Care Complete Inc., the way I will be designing this client server network for this small business /office would be continuing the use of the Windows server 2008 operating system, the Windows 2008 small business server comes with an antivirus and email protection, monitors levels of all software and applications running, can also manage and maintain any large amount of workload/project used on the server. Also I will choose to upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 Professional because Windows XP is more for home use. Windows 7 Professional can be for home and small business use, another great edition of Windows for business would be Windows Enterprise which offers and has the same qualities and needs for a business but more so highly recommended for larger companies/businesses, the Enterprise software cost much more than Windows 7 Professional as well. Windows 7 Professional comes with 64 bit installation, 192 GB of RAM, backup to a network location, EFS (Encryption File System) which is great for any business especially when in the Health Care field because your handling patient information so the EFS would protect all data this would help uphold the HIPPA standards and polices. Windows 7 Professional also includes software restriction polices, the ability to participate in a Windows server domain, and operate as a remote desktop server. So as a System Administrator, my next step would...

...Plain Old Telephone Service Christopher G Bernier Student at ITT Technical Institute Author Note Any questions can be sent to cbernier111@itt-tech.edu Abstract Our building is a Plain Old Telephone Service or POTS. Since this is the oldest form of networks I will do some research on POTS and its different components. Keywords: POTS, Local loop, Central office, Local exchanges, POP, Long distance system, Fixed line, Cellular phones, Telephone network topology, Cable TV, Telecommunications Service, Cloud Computing Plain Old Telephone Service Plain old telephone service, or POTS is the original and oldest means of transferring data available today. POTS is made up of 6 components, Local Loop, the Central Office, the Local Exchange, POP, Long Distance Systems, and Fixed Line. Our system is a POTS and in this report I will explain these components. I will also define and describe the different Telecommunication network components in their relationship to POTS system. Local Loop. The local loop is the two copper wires that connect the telephone to the central office and back to the telephone. Since it makes a complete loop from beginning to end it is referred to as the local loop. The two copper wires are twisted together and are referred to as a twisted pair. Central Office. The central office services a group of people in a given area. With the possibility of servicing up to 10,000 customers at a time. Like zip codes...
