...Above the Law: An Executive’s Double Standard – Fraudulent Use of Corporate Funds Traditionally, the positive image of a company or a brand is very important in the contemporary world. As a result, the question of morality of each individual working within an organization is of a paramount importance. In such a situation there should be no exceptions from the rule and executives could not be in a privileged position. This is the desirable ideal many companies strive to achieve at least in a public eye. However, the reality turns to be quite different from what is expected and the analyzed case of an executive’s double standard is just another evidence of the fact that the real life is so complicated that the common rules, including moral and ethical ones, cannot fully regulate it and often it is necessary to make very difficult decisions getting through double standards. In fact the case of Jack who revealed the fraudulent use of corporate funds by one of the veterans of BMI, Troy Sozuko, seems to be not an exception and the dilemma he has to solve, being quite complicated, is a typical case of double standards existing not only within the whole company but also on the personal level. It is obvious that Troy Sozuko really violated not only legal but also moral norms since he simply used corporate funds for his personal purposes and his gift was perfectly proved by Jack’s investigation. Moreover, it should be said that the executive’s gift is evident also because a thorough and...

...Student Victoria Pecherska | Case study | “Change of Culture at Westcode Semiconductors” | Case study “Change of Culture at Westcode Semiconductors” This case study reveals corporative culture issues emerged in Westcode Semiconductors, United Kingdom. The company has recently been taken over by the German counterpart. Therefore, Melanie Schmidt was transferred to Westcode Semiconductors from Germany. She was promoted to the position of EMEA Manager for IXYS Semiconductors in charge of research and development. According to German business practice, clear frameworks, bare facts and concrete proof are of highest value for each member of an organization. Melanie Schmidt was trained to follow such corporative culture, and intended to apply the same principles in UK. From the first day she introduced team meetings and brain-storming sessions, which worked effectively in Germany. Thus, Melanie thought her team was setting a good example by living the principles of honesty and respect. However, this was her misconception. Schmidt came across one Facebook group, crated by her UK employee, where he was slating IXYS, the merger and Melanie as a manager. She also found out that all managers from her team subscribed to that group and some of them even left comments. Melanie is willing to defend her reputation. Consequently, a plan of action is needed. First of all, Schmidt has to recognize her strategical mistakes. * Ideally, Melanie should have probed the internal environment...

...International assignments are often the key in developing good managerial teams in the new foreign subsidiary as expatriates can transfer their knowledge on how the company operates overall. In some MNE’s it is considered necessary for the senior managers to spend some time abroad to build the experience of running the company internationally so they can use that knowledge to fulfil the top corporative posts. The costs of sending expatriates abroad is high, in addition to paying expatriates salary organisations have to pay the cost of relocating the person and his/her family, pay for the house, give living allowances, special family benefits etc. Often organisations pay for the locating a job for the spouse and even pay them salary till they find a job, this is known as ‘trailing spouse’ benefits. The research show that many international assignments had failed. Traditionally a failed assignment is when the expatriate come back home before he/she is scheduled to do so. However a ‘failed’ assignment can also be defined in terms of poor quality performance & not meeting the expectations of their supervisors. Research done by Black & Gregerson (1999) show that 10%-20% of expatriates returned home before the scheduled to do so. 30% of expatriates fail to meet the expectations of their supriviours and 25% soon left their jobs after returning home. Why did so many assignments failed? The three main reseasons for the international assignemnts failer is the expatriates...

The test does not allow individual to determine their exact traits unlike other personality tests. We are assumed to have all five traits. Moreover, Myer-Briggs is considered most popular...

...Declaration of Human Rights. After reading this historic document, I realized how important human rights are. I believe most people take human rights for granted, we know they exist, but we don’t even know what they are and what they entail. This made me think a lot about the rights we all have, and how companies, schools and communities around the world incorporate most, if not all these rights into their policies. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1948. This declaration is analyzed as a system of elaborated and coordinated rules and guidelines of the world community. It is actually a code of mutually acceptable, civilized behavior of different countries, nationalities, corporative formations and also given citizens. This document has a universal meaning as it reflects the consolidated will of more than two hundred states of the planet. The XX century has brought a lot of new changes into the life of the nations. These changes include not only the achievements in the sphere of the scientific and technical progress, but also ecological problems and new types and systems of weapon, capable of destroying the human civilization. These influences resulted in the changes in the social, political and spiritual development of the humanity and also the...

...Perspectives 2014 – Spain Forecasting economic perspectives has always been an arduous task, especially since 2008 when the world economy collapsed. The fall of Lehman Brothers created an atmosphere of uncertainty which five years later has still not been completely stabilized. However, as of today, the markets are starting to recover, viewing 2014 as the year of the final recovery. Growth expectations have been predicted in the Eurozone and the recent decrease of the interest rates to a historic low has reinforced the aggressive expansive policy set by Draghi. Spain is one of the countries which has suffered the most from the described events. Nevertheless the austerity policy followed by the government in the last few years seems to be convincing the markets, which are starting to view Spain as one of the potential investments to make in the next few years. In general predictions seem to be quite confident on its recovery, although on the other hand the economy is not reacting as quickly as it was expected. The objective of this essay is to analyze different aspects of the Spanish economy in order to conclude whether we may or may not expect economic growth in Spain for the year to come. Deflation Risk The reduction in the interest rates has confirmed the fears that the ECB may have about a possible deflation in the near future. Although Draghi is trying to convey a message of serenity arguing that deflation is not a possible scenario, the press is waking the ghosts...

This research paper will analyze and review the economic opportunities and threats that VMTECH R&D can expect to encounter as well as other market conditions which will affect the operations of a division located within China. Rather than trying to import goods or services to sell, the company has chosen to establish a research and development division in China. VMTEC Sys will form a corporative joint venture known as VMTEC R&D, which will operate as a division of VMTEC Sys. The parent company will provide capital funds to entice participation of a local owner who will provide labor and manage the research and development division. In a recent article, written by a CPA, there are several reasons for establishing a business in China: Lower labor costs, opportunities for growth, and access to highly motivated and educated workforce (Rowbotham, 2009). By forming a corporative joint venture, the company will be able to enjoy the benefits of lower labor costs, establish a base for growth opportunities, and have direct access to highly motivated and educated workers. The corporate joint venture will be formed according to the legal entity concept where the entity pays corporate taxes in its own name in order to avoid a double taxation event. Foreign Market Environment External factors can influence...

Using the Ansoff Matrix, the proposal to sell bikes in the existing shops is an example of Product Development, A benefit of this would be that it would help them reach there corporative objective which is Growth, in order to do this they are planning to start by converting 50 BnQs stores in the midlands, this will mean they can test out the bike with their existing market, as about 20% of bikes are brought from online and 38% are brought from their biggest competitors Halfords as shown in Appendix A, and only about 28% of that market are willing to definitely go back and buy it from the same outlet which mean there is about 72% of 16-35 year olds who are willing to shop from someone else. Using the Ansoff Matrix, the proposal to sell bikes in a new chain of high streets is an example of Diversification, A benefit of this would be that they will be able to spread the risk so if demand falls in one market the business will not suffer too much because it can still archive profits in its other market with its other products, this will mean they can spend £60millon on this project as the other market is slowly decreasing, but the main problem in this is Halfords plc who has 33% of the share in Britain’s...
