The Once Silent Song
There was a smell in the air. A pungent, musty, slightly stale smell that seemed to seep into every single pore in my face. The smell was as if skunk spray had expired many years ago and was overlapped by old milk and mystery meats. I was searching for the cause of this stench, where it is strongest is where I will find what i’m looking for. I need a Beast for the subject in my story and meeting face to face is the only way I can do it justice. I climbed over large rocks on all fours, like a jaguar stalking its prey, only slightly less graceful and fluid. Just as I was placing my hand on the grainy, dusty surface of the next rock I was about to conquer, I saw a foot. He didn’t look as if he understood, but maybe a creature like him had never heard of a human named Blaze. I stopped, desperately wanting communication that didn’t seem to come between us.
