Saturday, February 28, 2014, I attended the Albany Civil Rights Institute located in Albany, Georgia. I attended the museum alone so that I would be able to observe the exhibits quietly without being distracted. Regrettably, I have lived near Albany, Georgia for almost three years and had not visited any of its museums. Therefore, on this day I was eager and excited that I had a reason and purpose to attend. The Albany Civil Rights Institute captures the fight for civil rights not only in Albany but throughout the United States. Two artifacts that were intriguing to me were Shiloh Baptist Church, and Quilt Code Patterns.

Shiloh Baptist church was founded in the late 1800s. The church has been memorialized and is a part of the Albany Civil Rights institute. The most intriguing information that I found out about Shiloh Baptist Church is that the “Freedom Walk” started there. The Freedom Walk or Freedom March took place during the Albany Movement where protesters marched from the church to City Hall with hopes of ending segregation. The footprints of the march have been memorialized in the concrete of the sidewalk for the trail that was walked. The footprints fascinate me; of the people marching it is said that Martin Luther King Jr. was among the people. The locals of Albany believe that Albany paved the way for Martin Luther King’s speech and movement that took place shortly after he left Albany, Georgia in Birmingham, Alabama

Another, amazing artifact futured in the museum was a quilt formerly owned by a slave. It is believed that the quilts owned by slaves had patterns on them as a means of communication between the slaves to take particular actions when trying to escape. It was

...Week 10 Assignment 3: Cultural Activity Report John Smith  Dr. Justyna Japola-DesVergnes HUM 112 September 6, 2015 For the Week 10, Assignment 3, I chose to attend the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, located in the “Museum District” of Richmond, Virginia. The museum was opened on January 16, 1936, which was during the great depression. I attended the museum with my Fiancé on September 5, 2015 and was the first time attending, for the both of us. It is currently open 365 days a year, and offers free admission other than to any of the special exhibits. Upon researching different museums and events to attend in the area, I decided that this museum would be most appropriate because it has a very extensive American art collection, housing items from the late 17th through the mid-20th century. It is currently hosting the exhibition Spotlight Loan: Eastman Johnson’s Views of Mount Vernon, which I found to be the highlight of my trip. In the text, I noted that there are numerous paintings by Eastman Johnson, an American painter, as well. One that particularly stood out to me was Negro Life in the South, 1959. The painting was of his father’s household slaves in Washington, DC. The slaves were portrayed as content, while playing music, dancing and conversing outside of their quarters. While some saw them as cheerful, abolitionists noted the crumbling architecture of the quarters in comparison to the house beside them, and also their tattered clothing (Sayre, 2015, p.967). In contrast...

Cultural Activity Report

...Assignment 3: Cultural Activity Report Student: Danny Franco Professor: Dr. Caren Stayer HUM 111 December 12, 2014 For my cultural event, I visited the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, California on Thursday, December 11, 2014. I had originally planned to visit the National Museum of Art and History in Washington D.C., but I found myself in Los Angeles due to the birth of my Grandson. I attended the museum by myself. The Getty Museum was originally started in 1954 in J. Paul Getty’s home in Pacific Palisades. After Getty’s death, the Getty Trust took over the museum. The collection eventually outgrew the site and the Getty Center was built in the Santa Monica Mountains above interstate 405. After inputting the museum’s address I into my phone, Google Maps routed me through the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. The area seems very affluent as I passed several large homes with private gates. I followed the directions and eventually arrived at the Getty Center parking garage. There is a tram that runs from the parking garage to the museum. The tram was very clean and had a very modern feel. The tram ride is very scenic and the views of Los Angeles are incredible as you climb the mountain towards the museum. Upon arrival at the Getty Center, the first thing I noticed was that the floor, steps and all of the walls were constructed of travertine. Upon closer inspection, I noticed small fossils encrusted in the travertine. It seemed like a very appropriate...

Is there a "typical" social background of the offender(s)? Are there any current trends . . . data issues? The typical money launderer is usually wealthy since the person or organization has a large, steady amount of excess money that needs to be “washed” of its illicit origin. However, the “social” characteristics, including the race, college education, vocation, and social position of the person or organization is more diverse. Typical money launderers are criminal organizations, such as the American Mafia or Chinese Triads, which are engaged in black market activities such as controlled substances, gambling, and...

...Spector 360 Recon. This software tracks employee’s every internet activity such as email, websites, online searches, chat/IM, keystroke activity, application usage, network activity, file transfers, document tracking, snapshot recording, user activity, and keystroke detection. Business can benefit from this software by early detecting on insider threat. Laudon and Laudon (2013) stated, “Companies also fear leakage of confidential information and trade secrets through e-mail or social networks” (p. 197). Fraud and Money Laundering

...and Money Laundering Definition Money laundering is defined as: ‘The funnelling of cash or other funds generated from illegal activities through legitimate financial institutions and businesses to conceal the source of the funds.’ Anti-Money Laundering, 2nd ed., IFAC, 2004 Fraud is a general term for deliberate misrepresentation and may include money laundering. The problems of fraud and especially money laundering are increasing at an unprecedented rate. Governments worldwide are introducing new legislation and penalties for such white collar crimes. However, the huge amounts of money involved in these illegal activities ensure that criminals continue to exploit ways of increasing their activities. They clearly weigh up the potentially vast profits against their chances of being caught and the subsequent penalties. Context It is a fact that legitimate financial institutions and businesses may be involved in fraud and money laundering. It is therefore crucial that CIMA members, whether in practice or in business, are fully aware of this possibility and are alert to the signs of money laundering which can affect their business. Examination candidates should be aware of the risks involved, especially at strategic and TOPCIMA level. They should ensure that they know the signs of possible money laundering and the steps they must take to report it. 3 Topic Gateway Series Fraud and Money Laundering Overview There are a number of ways in which criminals commit financial...

...long way off. A global crisis faces humanity at the dawn of the 21st century, marked by increasing poverty in our asymmetrical world, environmental degradation and short-sightedness in policy-making. Culture is a crucial key to solving this crisis. Source: Preface, World Culture Report, UNESCO Publishing, Paris, 1999. Our cultural values, which often include particular religious beliefs, shape our way of living and acting in the world. Module 11 on Indigenous Knowledge and Sustainability explores the importance of indigenous values and spirituality in providing guidance for sustainable living. Such principles and values encourage a spirit of harmony between people, their natural environments and their spiritual identities. The principles for living sustainably that flow from these and other cultural and religious beliefs vary between groups and countries. They have also changed over time as circumstances demand. Despite this diversity, many principles for living sustainably are shared, not only among indigenous peoples, but also between different religious traditions. This module explores the role of culture and religion in providing guidance on ways of living sustainably. It also provides activities which analyse the place of these themes in the school curriculum. Objectives * To develop an understanding of the relationship between culture, religion and sustainable living; * To explore the principles for sustainable living encouraged in a chosen religion and in a...

Cmn279 Final Report

...granting funding to non-profit organizations. Successful bidders will receive up to a $50,000 grant to offset costs from their operations and expenditures. This report serves to critically evaluate the Toronto Arts Council and determine whether it is worthy of receiving funding from the new Ford City Grants Fund. It will begin by providing a brief overview of the Toronto Arts Council and its activities, followed by evaluating how the Toronto Arts Council impacts Toronto's society and the need for the organization’s services. Lastly, the memo will conclude by deciding whether to grant the Ford City Grants Fund to the organization. This report is important as the Ford City Grants Fund has limited funds available and up to $50,000 may be granted to the organization, which is a hefty sum considering that money is tight. Furthermore, many organizations are applying for grants due to recent cuts in funding. It is therefore important that only the organizations most deserving of the grant should receive it. A. Overview of Toronto Arts Council 1. Background The Toronto Arts Council is mainly a volunteer-run organization with a small group of professional full-time staff. It's primary goal is to support the development, accessibility and excellence of the arts in Toronto. The Toronto Arts Council's activities consists of reviewing grant applications for funding made by various artists and organizations. ...40% over the last year. Under ‘related posts’ on the website, there are links to a July article warning of a 90% cut in local authority expenditure on the arts by the year 2020 (Smith, 2012); one reporting a 40% cut since 2008 (Smith, 2011); one reporting the withdrawal of funding by London councils (Woolman, 2011); and one reporting a rather flaccid warning against such cuts, issued by the Arts Council of England in 2010 (Woolman, 2010). Clearly the present economic climate is not favourable for arts and cultural activities in the UK, or elsewhere in the developed world, where the effects of the 2008 global banking crisis continue to be deeply felt. The stories published by The Stage suggest that, at a local level, public authorities do not regard such activities as a priority to be defended at all costs. Nevertheless, in recent years, arts organizations have become more effective in arguing the economic case for continued commitment to public investment in cultural activity. The Edinburgh Festivals Impact Study published in 2011 (Choughley, U. et al., 2011) builds on previous studies (AEA...
