Dani bilang malu

Is This War?

...In the Baliem Valley on the island of New Guinea, there are a group of people called the Dani. Aside from the basic necessities required for them to survive, there is one thing the Dani people do all day, every day, and that is fight. Some have called the endless battles in which the different Dani tribes participate a war, but it is not. What the Dani have would be considered a feud, or a never-ending stream of revenge killings. The Marine Corps defines war as “A violent clash of interests between or among organized groups characterized by the use of military force,” and continues to define the essence of war as “A violent struggle between two hostile, independent, and irreconcilable wills, each trying to impose itself on another.” In the case of the Dani, their battles are occurring purely for revenge, either for the death of a fellow Dani in a previous battle, or the death of one in a raid on a village or settlement. Thus neither side is trying to push their beliefs or way of life onto one another. A feud is defined as “A state of prolonged mutual hostility, typically between two families or communities, characterized by murderous assaults in revenge for previous injuries.” This spells out what occurs between the Dani tribes to a T. Each battle occurs entirely because in a previous battle someone was wounded or killed. In conclusion, the frequent, and almost daily battles that take place within the Baliem Valley is not war, or warfare. It is a simple feud, one that takes...

Dani's Case Study

...Due to the severe neglect as a child, Dani experienced a developmental delay (“Special Report”, n.d.). Once the Plant City police found Dani, they brought her to the hospital due to the filthy, roach-infested house she was found in (Calahan, 2011). According to Calahan’s (2011,p.17) article, “doctors said she was akin to a newborn, communicating on the level of a two month old.” Like a two month old, Dani’s communication was restricted to crying (Kail & Cavanaugh, 2014, p.156). Dani is unable to speak like other children her age because she had a parent who neglected to teach her how to talk, walk, etc. Typically “parents encourage turn-taking even before infants begin to talk, and later, they demonstrate both the speaker and listener roles for their children” (Kail & Cavanaugh, 2014, p.157)....

Child Rearing Interview Paper

...lab report, I interviewed my roommate Dani Lyra. He grew up in Brazil, so I was expecting the child rearing practices to be very different than that of my own. However, I was surprised to find out that his childhood was a lot like mine. Brazil is among the most culturally and racially diverse country in the world, with over 195 million people living there and a variety of child rearing practices. There is a huge margin for diversity in parenting styles among many other this, as is the common trend of this quarters class. Most Brazilians live in urban areas and tend to have diverse historical and cultural backgrounds. Through this interview, I discovered that the way Dani grew up was quite similar to those being raised in a middle-class European American family....

Canada Goose

...Executive Summary Dani Reiss is at a point in Canada Goose where the time for growth is now. Over the report we will be discussing what is the best way for Canada Goose to best combat their strengths and weaknesses to sell their product at full potential. Reiss must choose from Levine’s Menswear and Asmuns place. At these two locations Canada Goose will be able to better target men’s and women’s fashion segment. They will also get a more dominant position in upper scale mall, which is where we will find people who will be willing to pay our high price in order to get a quality coat. If our coat is seen in upper scale stores, this will also help to improve our brand image, to build a foundation in peoples minds as Canada Goose as a luxury coat. With added sales we should be able to improve our product line to offer an even wider range of coats and accessories. Our major issue with dealing with these types of retailers is there is no guarantee of our coat not being used as a loss-leader, which will highly decrease brand prestige. We will also face the possibility of losing a few key independent retailers when they fail to keep up with the upper scale larger stores such as Levine’s Menswear and Asmuns place. Ultimately, our company faces little risk, as higher-income people will always be willing to spend, to them, a small chunk of money on a coat that is of highest quality and extremely fashionable. Problem Statement How can Dani Reiss, the president and owner of Canada...

Beach-Nut Descriptive Writing

...Peering at the pasty white walls of the infirmary’s endless narrow hallway ahead of me, I recognized the importance of my job as a counselor. A camper’s safety should always be my number one priority, so at a time like this my full attention was crucial. I twisted the chilling metal knob of the towering bleached door before me, and pulled it open. I examined Laura’s wiry brittle figure, while her dazed expression caught my eye and I turned to Dani, the camp’s social worker. My worried façade must have clued her in because just then Dani said, “Lauren, you did everything right. She is going to be fine; we just need to keep her here to monitor her.” I thanked her as my attention drifted to the instants that brought me to the infirmary. --- My...

The Man in the Moon

...latest film unfolds gently and gracefully, in a climate where the warmth isn't merely a matter of weather. Until its final reel, when it strains badly to accommodate an almost biblical stroke of retribution, "The Man in the Moon" is a small, fond film that achieves a kind of quiet perfection. The story concerns two sisters, and Mr. Mulligan can find something evocative even in the way the elder braids the younger one's hair. The latter, 14-year-old Dani (Reese Witherspoon), is just on the verge of real beauty, while the slightly older Maureen (Emily Warfield) has already gotten there. The girls' family, which is beautifully evoked, exists at all different stages of development, from their toddler sister to their pregnant mother (Tess Harper) and the father (Sam Waterston) who is wary of his daughters' prospective suitors. In his or her own way, each member of this family longs for a boy. When one arrives, in the form of a handsome teen-age neighbor named Court (Jason London), he affects the girls' family in powerful ways. The coltish Dani becomes smitten with Court, even though he thinks himself too grown up for her. Their meetings at a rustic swimming hole have the makings of adolescent girls' fiction at its most saccharine, but in fact these scenes have an authentic wholesomeness that's very sweet. Also remarkable is what's missing here: the sexual precocity that is the sine qua non of most current films about teen-agers. There's something...

Your tutor has also embedded comments [in bold and in brackets] throughout your essay. Thank you for choosing Smarthinking's OWL; best wishes with revising your paper! Hi Denise! My name is Keren H., and I will be reviewing your submission today. Thank you for an interesting piece of research on Background Checks. In today’s review, we will revise sentence structure, word choice, and documentation. Strengths of the essay: Denise, “References” is the correct name for the heading of your page of sources. Good job! Sentence Structure: One or two of your sentences are “run-ons”. This means that two ideas “run on” into each other with no punctuation or links to separate them. Let’s see an example, and discuss how to correct the run-on:  A background check is a must in today’s business world. You never know what you may find on the applicant. What two ideas do you see here? “A background check is a must in today’s business world” is one; the rest makes up another idea. The easiest way to separate two ideas (two main clauses) is to put each in a sentence of its own. What punctuation (such as a capital letter and period) will you add, so that you have TWO sentences instead of the run-on? Visit Run-ons and Comma Splices to find more ways to revise run-ons. Globalization

...is called “the Golden Straightjacket”, which is a set of guidelines that governments and businesses must follow to be successful in a unified market. Many economists, politicians, authors, and businesspeople have differing views on the costs and benefits of putting on the Golden Straightjacket. Tom Friedman, an economist and author, argues that the Golden Straightjacket is a good thing for the world economy, while Naomi Klein, author of The Shock Doctrine, argues that free trade is a technique used to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Other ideas that have been argued are the effect globalization has on the spread of democracy. Tom Friedman argues that globalization is used to revolutionize governments to conform to democracy while Dani Rodrik, author of The Globalization Paradox, says that globalization actually hinders the spread of democracy. Klein, Rodrik, and Friedman offer differing views that reveal the various costs and benefits of globalization. Globalization usually refers to the global distribution of goods and services though reduction of barriers to trade. Globalization has existed for as long as there has been international trade. Our ancestors used trade routes such as the Silk Road and the triangular trade route, where goods such as cotton, silk, sugar, and other goods were produced through specialization and traded to obtain low cost...

(Donely and Danis, 184) Patients start to feel like a burden to their caregivers because insurance companies only cover a certain amount of their bills. Economically taking care of a terminal ill person is very costly. According to Greer Donley and Marion Danis “ One study noted that 10-16% of terminally ill patients and/or their families had to take out a loan or mortgage, spend their savings, or obtain an additional job to cover medical care costs” (184). Some terminal ill patients fill guilty for having their family pay medical bills, instead of spending the money on other expenses to take care of the...
