Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals Analysis

Author Les Brown once said, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you’ll land among the stars.” But what happens when the stars are tied down to a red, white, and blue flag that stamps “alien” on your forehead, and tosses you over a fence? Growing up I never felt different than the other kids. My family was just another family in the suburbs of Baltimore living in a regular home. My sisters and I woke up early in the morning to go to school, and my parents rushed off to work. We had an ordinary routine, just like everyone else I knew. Yet, I was oblivious to the fact that my parents were immigrants struggling to fit into American Society. From birth I was wrapped in the blanket of American law and stamped with the birthright of being a U.S. citizen. My parents dragged …show more content…
They desired to give young immigrants a fair chance to education, work, and, most importantly, the American Dream. As a result, Obama proposed the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), a legislation that would allow minors without legal immigration status to apply for deferred action (“Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals”). According to the department of homeland security, this program would allow them to attend school, apply for a work permit, work towards a driver’s license, and other opportunities. However, this chance to a new life was stripped away by President Trump, who announced the termination of the program in September of 2017. President Trump justified his decision by arguing “that those in the country illegally are lawbreakers who hurt native-born Americans by usurping their jobs and pushing down wages” (Shear and Davis). Contrary to the President’s beliefs, DACA is a program that provides minors with hope and opportunity, and should not be terminated. Terminating DACA dims the stars plastered across the flag and demotes the United States into a state of

A Pathway to Permanency

...Immigration and Immigrants A Pathway to Permanency Immigration and Immigrants: A Pathway to Permanency American culture has been shaped by immigrants from all around the world dating back to the founding of this country. Since the beginning, people have migrated to the United States for relief and opportunity. The United States is currently experiencing a new wave of immigration; namely Latinos. Many of whom are migrating to escape the dangers of their homeland. Others are migrating to move beyond the political chaos and economic deprivation of their countries in hopes of having an opportunity at the American Dream and all of its promises. It can be agreed that immigrants come to the United States for the betterment of themselves and their families. However, their dreams are often shattered by the obstacles of gaining residency and citizenship no matter the length of the time they have resided in the United States. While immigrants are the foundation of our nation, immigration regulations were put into place in the 1700’s and has undergone changes throughout the years. Over the past several decades, there has been an emphasis on immigrants’ impact on our economy. In our current state combined with the vast amount of illegal immigrants entering and residing in the United States, immigration and immigrants are significant to America’s success. Our country’s international stature is dependent upon the advancements we make to enhance the lives of our young immigrant population;...

Immigration Reform

...together. Provding work permits in the US for illegal immigrants is a great benefit to them. In August of 2012 President Obama’s administration approved the Differed Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). “As of May 31, 2013, USCIS has accepted about 520,000 DACA applications. They have approved a little over 365,000 and denied 3,816 applications.” (Leiva, 2013) This was a major accomplishment for the Dreamers who in 2001 introduced the DREAM Act and was denied in several occasions. Although DACA is a temporary solution to immigration reform it’s a great step forward. The majority of the applicants are college graduates with Associates and Bachelor’s degrees who until now weren’t able to work in their graduate field. Even though some states have opposed President Obama’s order for DACA with restricting approved applicants with not being able to have a driver’s license they have overcome it with other means or moving to a DACA friendly state. Immigrants who got approved under the age of 30 are able to work legally in the United States, creating more tax revenue. Approving an immigration reform will help the economy in many ways, how you say? Well let’s start with the federal deficit, by approving the reform it will help reduce the deficit by trillions of dollars. According to Douglas Holtz-Eakn from the American Action Form said, “That growth would produce tax revenue that would reduce, federal...

...high skilled workers to the United States labor force. Another major change is that Obama’s action will end a program called Secure Communities, therefore Immigration and Custom Enforcement as well as other law enforcement agencies will begin to priority their focus on criminals and felons rather than working families and security on the border will be increased. While many Americans think this is a righteous move that should have been done long ago to fix our broken immigration policy, the plan is opposed strongly by the Republicans. President Obama has no option but to use his executive action. House Speaker John Boehner states that the president is acting like a king or emperor with his executive action on the new immigration reform. The plan is also facing lawsuit from many different states, but Obama administration believes that the policies could withstand any lawsuit. Obama says in his speech, “The actions I’m taking are not only lawful; they’re the kind of actions taken by every single Republican President and every Democratic President for the past half century.” Funding is not an issue for the new immigration reform as it is self-funded. As long as if they pass the background check, most of the people will benefit from this are unauthorized immigrants who are the parents of United States citizens. In return, they have to pay taxes if they choose to work. Economic Analysis:...

Influence of Home Video on the Young Adults

...CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1. Background to the Study Films, generally, serve as a tool for national integration and development. Major types of film are home video, which develop, until now, from what is formerly known as cinema or stage play/drama. As part of mass media, home videos play the important roles of informing, educating, entertaining and transmitting social heritage. Through their educational role, however, home videos concern themselves with evolving a better society by exposing societal ill and wrongs. Since the emergence of home videos, at the turn of the twenty-first century the films industries, and both male and female actors in Nigeria, Nollywood, have considerably influenced the habits, belief systems, style of dressing and other behavioural idiosyncrasies on many Nigerian youths. Thus, one can say, however, that the emergence of home videos have helped to promote the Nigerian cultural heritage; aside this, it has awaken in many youths the Nigerian culture that was once lost during the colonial period. There are also negative effects of home videos on audiences. However, there have been cases where home videos are criticized to the cause for some societal ills. Social critics, who believes in this school of thought says that some antisocial behaviours like violence and extravagant life that many films portrays in their content perceptibly affect the behavior of the audience. Nonetheless, all these sum up to mean that home videos have both positive...

Interpretation of Dreams

...The Interpretation of Dreams Sigmund Freud (1900) PREFACE TO THE THIRD EDITION Wheras there was a space of nine years between the first and second editions of this book, the need of a third edition was apparent when little more than a year had elapsed. I ought to be gratified by this change; but if I was unwilling previously to attribute the neglect of my work to its small value, I cannot take the interest which is now making its appearance as proof of its quality. The advance of scientific knowledge has not left The Interpretation of Dreams untouched. When I wrote this book in 1899 there was as yet no "sexual theory," and the analysis of the more complicated forms of the psychoneuroses was still in its infancy. The interpretation of dreams was intended as an expedient to facilitate the psychological analysis of the neuroses; but since then a profounder understanding of the neuroses has contributed towards the comprehension of the dream. The doctrine of dream-interpretation itself has evolved in a direction which was insufficiently emphasized in the first edition of this book. From my own experience, and the works of Stekel and other writers, [1] I have since learned to appreciate more accurately the significance of symbolism in dreams (or rather, in unconscious thought). In the course of years, a mass of data has accumulated which demands consideration. I have endeavored to deal with these innovations by interpolations in the text and footnotes. If these additions do...

...Learning with Cases INTRODUCTION The case study method of teaching used in management education is quite different from most of the methods of teaching used at the school and undergraduate course levels. Unlike traditional lecture-based teaching where student participation in the classroom is minimal, the case method is an active learning method, which requires participation and involvement from the student in the classroom. For students who have been exposed only to the traditional teaching methods, this calls for a major change in their approach to learning. This introduction is intended to provide students with some basic information about the case method, and guidelines about what they must do to gain the maximum benefit from the method. We begin by taking a brief look at what case studies are, and how they are used in the classroom. Then we discuss what the student needs to do to prepare for a class, and what she can expect during the case discussion. We also explain how student performance is evaluated in a case study based course. Finally, we describe the benefits a student of management can expect to gain through the use of the case method. WHAT IS A CASE STUDY? There is no universally accepted definition for a case study, and the case method means different things to different people. Consequently, all case studies are not structured similarly, and variations abound in terms of style, structure and approach. Case material ranges from small caselets (a few paragraphs...
