In this document I will assess my design against my specification to see which of my designs are the most suitable. |

This design fits this specification because of the materials it is made of; wood and metal which both last for a longer amount of time as supposed to a piece of paper due to its solidity .
Main Award
This award meets the function of the specification as the award can be used for both criteria’; progress and achievement depending on the colour used. By this I mean, if it were to be awarded in the colour brass it would function as an achievement award and if it was for progress award it would be in the colour Nickel silver. I have used these two colours because they are identical to the colours used in any competition: gold and silver, so that the students will appreciate it more. This award also functions as a picture in the spherical acrylic so that when the picture is taken of the student receiving the award they can print at a size of 3x4. And including this picture frame enables the award winner to remember the time in which they won it. Also according to my design influences it does not offend anyone because there are no crosses on it referencing a religion that can offend other people with different ethnicities. The colours I have used enable the design to function in a living room environment as they are not bright colours which in short fulfils the end users needs and requirements.
After taking in account the size and weight of the award this design fulfils this specification point in order to make it comfortable for the user to handle and less strain needed signifying it as an ergonomic award also the curves on the rise of the award makes the award easier for the person receiving it easy to hold
This design fits this specification point because it is 3D and is better than a piece of paper and also it lasts longer and it’s something the end will user will be more appreciative of.
This design fits the point because the material it is made out of does not cost a lot
This design partially fits this point in the specification because the surface of this design will be smoothen and but not all the edges are smooth which could be a hazard to the end user so as an improvement I could smoothen the edges and make it more safe the end user.
This design fits this point in the specification because I use a range of materials in this design; metal, wood and acrylic. It also fits the point because although there are two parts in my design I have made a groove for were the second part would fit so the material can both work together.
This design has achieved this point because it is like a real award that is unique and also aesthetically pleasing because of its form and shape ad also it acts as an award
This design fits the specification because the colours I will use are not biased to one sex but appeals both, also the design does not have any childish references so it can function for a 16-17 year old. Lastly in this design I have not made any reference t St Pauls so therefore it can function for different schools. In this design there is a compartment on where the logo of any school will stay there for so it’s not biased to any school.
Once I have designed this award I will make it meet the specification so that although it maybe medium size it shouldn’t be too heavy in order for the award to be comfortable for the user to hold for a substantial amount of time. Also I won’t make it too light because most products that are of a light material are sometimes classified as fake and in order to prevent this it needs to be a substantial weight in order for the end user to appreciate it.
The size of my design meets the specification because it is no bigger than 60cm and no smaller than 10cm. This good so there will not be any trouble when it comes handling the award and carrying a mass amount of it. Aside from this it also satisfies the target audience as it is no bigger than 60cm and no less than 30com and also according to my design influences it is ergonomic.

This design meets the specification point as it does function as an award that can function as a progress or achievement award. However it does not function as a picture frame and as an improvement to this I could make a section of the plaque that holds a picture
Rectangle Plaque
This design fits in with the specification point because its neutral colour allows it to blend into a living room environment
This design fits this specification point because from its dull back ground of the wood the metal on top of it making it pleasing to the eye which contributes to my design influence of aesthetics.
Due to the fact that it is predominantly made out of wood it would last longer that the certificate the previous student received, so all in all this design fits the specification point.

Due to the only two materials I am using the cost of this design will be a low price so it would be cheap for schools to order a large amount.

This design does not meet this specification as it has unsmooth edges that can be a cause of injury to the end user. So in order to make it safe I will make the edges smoothers
This does meet the specification as it does contain two materials that work together and both work as one in durability and also can be made of brass or metal.
This design does not meet this specification requirement because it won’t be smooth because it will be two different materials on another so it will be a bit bumpy. Also the edges are not smoothen out, in this case this could cause injury to the end user and hard to handle. Although the surface of the two materials would be smooth in order to give it a professional look. So as an improvement I will strive to make the design smother making it comfortable to hold.
This design has met this specification point as it is a plaque and since has a metal hole sticking out behinds it allows the target audience to hang it on the wall and an away from it damaging. So all in all its life in service will be long because it would just be hanging on the wall.
This design does meet this specification point as I have not used any colours or shapes to insinuate a certain gender. Also the design can apply to different schools as there is no one features that shows an aspect of a certain school so the award could be applicable to different schools.
In terms of weight this design did meet the specification point because the weight of the design will be light as it will still be comfortable for the end user to handle for a long period of time.
Its size does not fit the specification because it’s smaller than the requirements. However this can be justified because if it were to have a small length and width it would not look aesthetically pleasing. Although, due to the size of the design it fulfils the specification point because as it will not cause a problem for the way it will be stored if it was ever to be mass produced and sent to a school. So as an improvement I will make it bigger once it is being made.

This does not meet this specification point because one of the edges is not smooth which is the figures hand. This could cause and injury. So as a development I will need to make the edges smoother thus making the award safe to the end user.

This design only fits this specification point as it is a type of award that awards people for their progress in sports due to the figure with a ball. It also functions as picture frame of the face of the designated winner so that it reminds them of the moment they won the award and also the award does not offend any ethnicity.

Running Man
This design achieved this specification because the award can function in a living room background because of its neutral colour.
Since product will be stored on a flat table or structure and with the fact that it is a non interactive award no danger would come to it meaning it would last a long time.
This design achieved this specification point because the award shows what the pupil has been working hard on over the years and it is an improved standard in the reward system
With the fact that this design only consists of two materials, it production would be relatively cheap. This makes it meet my specification point.
This does not fit this specification because of the unsmooth edges of the figure that could cause harm to the user. So to avoid harm to the user I will need to make the edges of the award smooth.
This fits this specification point as it is made up of two different materials. These two materials work together and are durable, which provides a varied range texture to design making it look aesthetically pleasing.
This design fits in with this point because it has base that makes it able to stand, so it would not be needed to be handled all the time but would be kept in a safe place where it would not be damaged.
This design does not really meet this specification point because it is meant to apply for both sexes but figure used is of a male figure therefore intending it for a male not female. Although it meets it because it doesn’t make reference to a school but still allow individual to put their logo on the figure ball. So in further development I’ll make the award appeal to both sexes

This does fit the specification point because the weight of the award would be relatively light making the user us less strength to handle it.

This design fits this specification point because it will be longer than 10cm, which will be enough for the end user to hold it comfortably however packaging the award would create problems because of how sharp the edges are which might scratch other award or punch holes through their containments. In order to solve this problem when I develop my design I’ll make the edges smoother

Progress award
This design does not fit this point because of it bright colours. Due to this it would stand out in a living room and would fit its environment. So as an improvement I will make the award have dull colours.
This design has reached this specification point as it consists of more than one material; metal, wood and acrylic. The all work together well and are durable.
My product also fills this point as it performs as an award, and the bright colours used give out a happy vibe and then the name of the student on the award makes them feel proud of what they have.
This design meets this point because it allow is better that piece of paper students receive and it is also more rewarding and will last a long time.
This design does not fit this specification point because the edges aren’t blunt and could cause harm to the user whilst handling the award, so in order to develop it I’ll make the edges smoother.
In this specification point my design did not meet it as the different colours of the acrylic could make the cost slightly pricey which might cause a mass order of this design to cost quite a lot. So as a development I might just use one colour
According to weight and size of the award this award has met this specification point because it will be comfortable for the end user to hold and light enough for the award not to cause any strain on the end user.
This design fits this specification point because the flat base allows it to balance on a flat surface and if it is left alone it is like to have a long time in service
This design meets this specification because it can be given to both sexes since there are no biased references. It also can function in other schools as the design doesn’t feature any specific school reference.
I have made sure that this award will be neither too light nor heavy so just in the middle so it meets the specification point and so it is also comfortable for the end user to hold for a long amount time and in turn this fulfils my design influence on ergonomics

This design meets this specification point because this award will be a height of roughly 25cm and with this there will be no problem carrying a mass production of this award.

This design meets this specification point because it’s an award that is given for progress, although it does not have a place for a picture, so it only functions as an award and in order to change it in my development I will make a compartment for a picture so that the end user can reference a happy moment in their life.

Function- This design does fit the specification because it is an award that can be appreciated by a student. It also functions as a picture frame to capture the moment of receiving the award. It also has a function of its own which is its ability to spin in an axis to show the school logo and school name on one side and the name of student on the other side, In order to make the award more interactive and appealing. However it does not function as a picture frame.
Spinney award
This design meets this specification point as it does improve the rewarding system by it lasting a long amount of time.
This design does meet this specification point because it will not cost a lot due to the materials that are used to make it. This is good so schools will not pay large sums of money to order a large amount of this award.
This design fits this specification point because it is better than a piece of paper and is a 3D object, which would make the end user feel appreciated and proud. It is also aesthetically pleasing.
This design does consist of any primary colour so it does fit in the environment of a living room, thus meeting the specification point.
This design does not meet this specification point because it does have blunted edges but rather sharp edges which could cause injury if the end user is not careful. So I will make the edges smoother
This meets this speciation point because this design does consist of more than one material; wood and transparent acrylic. By the looks of the design it meets the specification because it shows that the materials are working together and are durable.
This design fills this specification point because its size will in-between the measurements 60cm and 10cm to make sure the end user appreciates the award and also to avoid any handling difficulties.
This design does meet this specification point because it still has sharp edges on its base which could be uncomfortable to the end user.
This design meets this specification because it has a stand that makes the design stable when it’s on a flat surface. So this means the end user could place it on a table or a in a cupboard where no harm can come to it, meaning that it will have a long life of service
This design fulfils this specification point because it appeals to both sexes as there are no biased colours. Also it meets this point because it appeals to different schools as there are no visually references that implicate it is made for a particular school.
The weight of this design should be substantially heavy due to the fact that the base is completely made out of wood so it would meet this specification point because it is not too heavy and will cause comfort for the end user when handling it.

-------------------------------------------------
This design meets this specification point because since the majority of the end users want to place their award in their living room there are no primary colours so it does not stand out.
This fulfils this specification point because it is an award and has the features of one and it also aesthetically pleasing with the brass material as it looks like gold.
This fits this specification point as it is better than the previous award due to the fact that it a 3d object rather than a flat piece of paper and also will last longer
This meets this specification point because it will not cost much due to the materials used in making products. This is good so the schools won’t have trouble ordering a mass amount of this award.
This design meets the specification point because there are no sharp edges that could cause harm to the end user whilst handling the award.
This design meets this specification point because the design is constructed with more than one material; brass, wood and acrylic. Also by the looks of the material work together and are durable.
Achievement Award
-------------------------------------------------
This design fits this specification point because this design consists of smoothened edges and also smooth edges so the appearance is more pleasing and so it is more comfortable for the use to handle.
This design meets this specification point because of its base that makes it stable on flat surfaces so the end user can place the award somewhere with a flat surface for a long amount of time without it falling and thus having a long life of service.
This design meets this specification as it is an award that is given to a student for great achievement in a subject. It also meets this specification because it has an empty see through compartment, which can function as a picture frame in order for the end user to use the picture where they’ve received the award with to capture the moment.
This design meets this specification point because it size will be relatively big but not up to 60cm so that there is not an issue with packaging and handling. Seeing as it is bigger than 10cm it would meet the target user needs and requirements
The weight of this award will be relatively light so that will not become uncomfortable for the user to hold for a long period of time, due to the fact that they are proud of it.

This design only meets with some parts of this specification point, which the fact that the award is meant to be unique and that it must appeal to other schools. However it does not meet the specification point of appealing to both genders as the figure used is of a manly figure, thus suggesting the award is purposed for males. So in my development I could avoid using shapes like these

This design meets the function as the design acts as an award for the subject art. However it does not function as a picture frame. And as a development to this I should add a space for where the picture would be as well as the school logo and the school name.
This design meets this specification point because the design consists of more than one material; acrylic, wood and metal. The material all work together and make the award durable.
Art Award
This design only includes neutral colours so it can blend in with its environment.

This does perform as an award given to some who has achieved or made progress and is aesthetically pleasing to the end user.

This design meets this specification point because it the design upstages the piece of paper ex pupil receive and lasts longer.
This design does meet this as the material used in the product. Aren’t expensive so costing for manufacturing them will not cost a lot neither would postage and packaging
This design does meat the size specification as it will be in-between the ranges of 10cm-60cm so that it is big enough for the end user to hold and appreciate but yet small enough so that it does not cause trouble with carrying and packaging.
The weight of this design would be relatively small to ensure the user is comfortable whilst using holding it for a long period of time
This design does fit this specification point as I have made sure that the weight and size of this design have met the specification which means that it would be comfortable for the user.
This design does meet this specification point because the award consist of a base, meaning that the award would not need support to stand up, leading up to the fact the at it can be kept in a place and without interference and due to this it will have a long life of service.
This design may not appeal to both sexes because the figure carved out if wood is of a male sex which could be biased to one sex. Although the award does appeal to other schools due to the fact that the design does not bear any reference to a particular school.
This design meets this design specification as there are no sharp edges or rough surfaces to cause harm to the end user.

This design function as an award and also a picture frame so that the student will fulfil its purpose and picture can remind them of the day and also looking outside this society it does not offend any ethnicity or religion
MATHS AWARD
This does not meet this specification point because it is only made out of one material.

This design doesn’t meet the specification point because there are sharp edges that could cause harm to the end user whilst handling the award. And in order for the award to safe the edges will need to become smoother.

This design doesn’t meet the specification point because there are sharp edges that could cause harm to the end user whilst handling the award. And in order for the award to safe the edges will need to become smoother.

This design will meet this specification point because it will be of a medium size no smaller than 10 cm and no bigger than 60cm. This will ensure that there will be no problems transporting a mass amount of the award.

This meets this specification point because it will not cost much due to the material used in making products. This is good so the schools won’t have trouble ordering a mass amount of this award.

This meets this specification point because it will not cost much due to the material used in making products. This is good so the schools won’t have trouble ordering a mass amount of this award.

This design meets this specification point because the award is made up of wood; light weight wood. This is good so that the end user can hold the award for a long amount of time.

This design meets this specification point because it the design upstages the piece of paper ex pupil receive and lasts longer.

This design fits the specification as it appeals to both genders and ex pupils at the age of 16-17. I know this because I have interviewed several people and the have said that fit the end user and they said they really liked it

This does perform as an award given to some who has achieved or made progress and is aesthetically pleasing to the end user.

This design meets this specification point because of its base that makes it stable on flat surfaces so the end user can place the award somewhere with a flat surface for a long amount of time without it falling and thus having a long life of service.

This design only includes dark colours so it can blend in with its environment which due to my result on the user needs and requirement is the Living room.

This design does fit this specification point as I have made sure that the weight and size of this design have met the specification which means that it would be comfortable for the user.

This design fits this specification point because it is comfortable because the weight and the length and height of the award has been taken into consideration so that the award is not too heavy to cause strain from holding for a long amount of time and nor is it too light for it to resemble the past awarding system. I have made sure the height is underneath 60cm to prevent problems with packaging and this also is part of my user needs and requirement.
Function- This design fulfils the function because it is an award for one for pupils who’ve attended school for 5 years and have excelled in their ICT work. It also functions as a picture frame as well as an award in order to make the end user proud of the award although the problem is that the place where the image is place will distort the image. The good about this design is that no part of its shape or form offends anyone and also it is aesthetically pleasing because of the different affects the form and colours have on the eyes because of the bright colours on the dark background.

PAC MAN AWARD

This design fulfils this specification point because there is more than one type of material for example the base and circular parts are made out of the wood but the red parts of the award and the black eye are made of acrylic. The Pac man shape is durable but the cylinder will be hard attached to the base because it does not have a flat surface.

Size- This fits this specification point because the size of the award will be underneath 60cm but over 10cm and with this it will be relatively light and won’t cause strain on the end user holding it. Now since my design is affected by the ergonomics and in this particular design since there are no handles the base of my design must be the average size of my end users palm or even bigger in order for them to hold the award.

This design partially fits this specification Point because it base is too thin and the edges are sharp so they can cause harm if the end user is not careful and also the red acrylics can cause harm because of their sharp edges. Now because it doesn’t fit this specification point it means it also doesn’t fit my design influences because the award is meant to cause no harm whatsoever. So in order to make it fulfil the specification I will need to make the ends smoother.

Weight- Due to the size of the award it doesn’t consist of much weight which means the award will be comfortable for the end user to hold for a long period of time which contributes to the Ergonomics of the award and as well as this it fulfils the user needs and requirements.

This product meets this specification point because it appeals to both sexes and ex students age 16-17 because the actual design is a themed as a popular game this age group would have played at an earlier age which will bring back memories and even appreciate the award more and also the colours and the aesthetics of the design makes it more attractive and more appealing to the end user.

This only partially meets the specification point because the cost of a mass production of this award will not cost too much but because of how fragile the award is packaging each award will cost extra.

This design does fulfil this purpose because it is a much step higher than the old rewarding system as there is much to be proud of rather than a piece of certificate that can easily ripped if not looked after carefully
This design fits the specification point because the award is not design to be interacted with so there are hardly any chances of it going to get broken and also it has a flat base so it won’t fall without force being used so with this it should have a long life in service. This design fulfils this specification point because it makes the end user appreciate the reward and proud about what they have achieved, another feeling is giving because the award takes the end user to an early point in their life.
This design doesn’t fit this specification point because of its bright colours dis enabling the award from blending in a living room environment which consists of neutral and dull colours.

Improvements

IMPROVEMENT OF MAIN AWARD

This design fits this point in the specification because the surface of this design will be smoothen and all the edges are smooth which means the award will be no hazard to the end user.

Things Changed:
Edges are now curved making it safer for the end user.
Improvement of Spinney Award (2)

Function- This design does fit the specification because it is an award that can be appreciated by a student. It also functions as a picture frame to capture the moment of receiving the award. It also has a function of its own which is its ability to spin in an axis to show the school logo and school name on one side and the name of and picture of student on the other side, In order to make the award more interactive and appealing.

Things changed:
THIS NOW FUNCTIONS AS A PICTURE FRAME SO THE END USER CAN REMEMBER WHEN THEY WON THE AWARD.

PAC MAN AWARD IMPROVEMENT

Things changed:
The edges are now curved making it less of a danger
The picture frame has changed so the picture will be straight rather than distorted

Final design.
In this analysis I will be assessing my final design against my specification point to see if it has improved.
In my opinion my final design does not meet all my specification points because of the changes I made to the design.
First of all with the function this design does meet this specification point because it functions as an award as well as a picture frame that the pupils can use to commemorate and remember the happiness they felt receiving the award, although as a further development due to the unfinished design I will need to add a special compartment to actually hold the picture frame. After I explained my design to one of the end users they said “I really like and would be proud to receive an award like this” now this gives me confidence that my design fulfils this specification point.
According to the size of the award it meets my size specification point because it is bigger than 10cm but yet smaller than 60cm as well as fulfilling the specification point it also fulfils the end users need and requirements. This final design fits this specification point because the design is relatively light so if the user held it for a long amount of time their arms wouldn’t ache.
This does not fulfil this specification point because it will be an interactive design because it comes in two parts, which are the rise and the plaque and if the end user is not careful they could lose one of them.
This design does not meet this specification point because in order to hold the design it will be uncomfortable for the end user because us the edges sticking out. And to improve this I will make the riser smoother.
This design fits this point in the specification because I use a range of materials in this design; metal, wood and acrylic. It also fits the point because although there are two parts in my design I have made a groove for were the second part would fit so the material can both work together.
This design partially fits this point in the specification because the surface of this design will be smoothen and but not all the edges are smooth which could be a hazard to the end user so as an improvement I could smoothen the edges and make it more safe the end user.
This design fits the point because the material it is made out of does not cost a lot this design fits this specification point because it is 3D and is better than a piece of paper and also it lasts longer and it’s something the end will user will be more appreciative of.
This design has achieved this point because it is like a real award that is unique and also aesthetically pleasing because of its form and shape ad also it acts as an award
The colours I have used enable the design to function in a living room environment as they are not bright colours which in short fulfils the end users needs and requirements.

Modeling, Visualization, and Assessment

...Modeling, Visualization, and Assessment Modeling, visualization, and assessment are three tools that when incorporated properly, can make any classroom successful. Visualization is now being used in several careers. Disciplines such as mechanical design and architecture have traditional utilized drawings such as plans, sections, and elevations as the primary medium for design communication as well as documentation (Guidera, 2010). Highway design engineers now use visualization as an opportunity to improve the entire planning, design, and construction process for all types of projects, big and small, and from start to finish (Taylor, & Moler, 2010). The following sections will discuss incorporating modeling activities, creative ways to use visualization tools, technologies for assessing student progress, and difficulties expected with the incorporation of modeling, visualization, and assessment. Incorporating Modeling Activities Modeling activities can be tailored to fit any classroom situation. There are several things to keep in mind when using or creating modeling activities for instruction. One thing to keep in mind is that the activity is should be interactive. The modeling should also provide opportunities for them to experiment with the model or modify. The second thing to keep in mind is that the purpose of using a model is to help bridge the gap between observations and the real world. The final thing to keep in mind is that modeling can introduce students...

Managing People

...1 ORGANISING PRINCIPLES 1.1 Background to Assessment Centres An assessment centre (AC) ‘is a process by which an individual, or group, is assessed by a team of judges using a comprehensive and integrative set of techniques’ (Feltham, 1989). The design and implementation of the AC must be carefully planned with contemporary literature in mind to derive a clear and unbiased assessment of the participants and their ability to meet agreed competencies. Marchington (2000) outlined several principles of AC design, that were applied throughout the design process: • Sensitivity • Validity • Reliability • Sufficiency • Cross-referenced • Currency • Ownership • Cost Effectiveness The application of these principles will be adhered to as far as relevant, to guarantee the success of the assessment centre. 1.2 Competency-based Assessment The recognition and application of competencies facilitate the assessment centre. A competency can be defined as ‘the ability to perform in a range of work-related activities with the knowledge and understanding required for performance’ (Rogers, 1973). The fundamental driver of a successful AC is in the designer’s ability to draw out the necessary competencies from the job description and person specification to apply them to the task design. 2 ASSESSMENT CENTRE DESIGN 2.1 Job Description 2.2 Person Specification 2.3 Developing Competencies 2.3.1 Stage One: Brainstorming Several...

Informal Assessment of a Student

...Running Title: Informal Assessment Informal Assessment of a Student Barbara Brown Grand Canyon University: SPE-536 Professor Haynes October 31, 2012 Informal Assessment of a Student In the process of developing an informal assessment I have discovered how important it is to effectively develop an assessment that matches the criteria that I want to assess my students’ progress. To do an informal assessment on my students, I chose the unit that we are working on in Biology. At the moment we are learning about the parts of the cells and how the cell works to maintain life. As I did an informal observation on different students in the classroom, I observed that several of the students were having difficulties remembering the parts of the cell and their functions. To solve this problem, I developed an informal assessment that would allow students to learn the cell parts and its functions. The informal assessment that I developed is a game of battle ship on Quia. Quia is a learning tool that I have had the opportunity to use and observe other educators use to help educate and enhance their students learning. The game consists of the game battleship. Like the game, the player is looking for the ships of the enemy. When the student picks a spot that the enemy ship is located on, a question pops up asking a question supply a multiple choice of four answers that the student can choose from. If answered correctly the student gets a hit. There are about 17 questions;...

Training Proposel

...Training Proposal Minor Works Design Package RELEVANT BACKGROUND INFORMATION NPO’s, NSO’s and CSO’s currentley do their drafting in the redline package within GIS FieldView. FieldView is an ageing software application for viewing of our Network Model stored in our Geographic Information System (GIS). GIS FieldView is proposed to be replaced with DEKHO in the Q2 of this year. After some initial investigations and some consultation with the GIS team (Network Control) and the Facilities Records Team the drafting capability within Dekho will meet Minor Work Design needs and the requirements for our operational systems including “Dial Before You Dig”. It has also been acknowledged that the age of CSO’s group results in a resistance on change behavior. PURPOSE OF TRAINING The primary purpose of the training is to help NPO’s, NSO’s and CSO’s to have the knowledge and skills to use the Minor Works Design Package under DEKHO software and improve effectiveness and productivity in the work place. However, it is also acknowledged that the training may assist the CSO group in changing their behavior. To see a results in change behavior is a process – not a single event, it requires strong management support beyond this training. RELEVANT CLIENT NEEDS They are approximately 40 NPO’s and 20 NSO’s/CSO’s who have been identified as requiring development. However they are spread all over the state. It has been suggested that one single session will not be possible as it will...
