A person must try new things because otherwise we would never discover that we really that we really capable of Kamkwamba was going through a lot of problem that he had to face all by himself, but there we one problem. We had to face all things by ourselves and got solutions.
The people of William Kamkwamba’s village in Malawi, Africa were experiencing a devastating famine. Kamkwamba, 14 years old at the time, was forced to drop out of school because his family could no longer afford to pay for his education. “No money, I said. Today I dropped.” (page133) Kamkwamba’s father doesn't have money to pay tuition of Kamkwamba. Another reason is about the famine. There were droughts and floods, but in the end, most of the problems were caused by the Malawian people themselves. The decision to pay off international debt in the form of the country’s stockpile of maize, deforestation, and the election of a business-oriented president were all major reasons for the famine.
Kamkwamba Likes a good engineer, he began to research and look for creative solutions. Kamkwamba’s passion for science and math led him to the local library, where he taught himself physics from textbooks. Kamkwamba even learned a new language as he went along, as the books were all in English. He was so inspired by the pictures of a windmill he saw in a book about renewable energy that he became determined to build one himself. He scavenged for spare parts at a local junkyard, ultimately coming up with materials like bicycle wheels, PVC pipe and a tractor propeller. After two months of hard work and resourceful thinking, he was able to transform these odds and ends into an electricity-generating windmill. The windmill successfully powered several lamps in his family home and later could charge cell phones as well. “Even had mobile phones on a table. You could pay to make calls, kind of like an open-air booth.” (Page 210) Kamkwamba’s innovation from scraps of metal and various other parts scavenged from a junk yard created a relief for many who lined up outside his home to get their phones charged once they had heard of the windmill’s capabilities. Contacting others in the outside world became easy for Kasungu’s inhabitants. Exchange of information, current news, and ideas further progressed the MDGs by creating awareness of Malawi’s problems and its people’s concerns for the future. However, Kamkwamba would to create a windmill, and get some helpful, and solve his family prolems.
In my problem, my parents support me and my brother to go college, and pay our payment. My parents are very hard to work every day, and give money to support us. My father is a builder, and my mother is a waiter. They work more than 8 hour each day. I need hard work to final my college degree and get a great job to less my parents’ stress.
In my solution, writing, speaking, and communicating will all contribute to obtaining my goals. These skills will all influence my schoolwork. Using these skills I will get the 3.0 GPA I need to make it through this school and graduate in four years with a systems degree. Communication is going to be the biggest skill that I will have to use to make my 3.0 GPA. I am going to have to communicate with teachers and classmates because I believe no one makes it through this school without help. To graduate from UMASS in next two years is my first goal. Writing, speaking and communicating are all going to help me reach my goal of graduating. I will have to write the best papers I have ever written. In addition I will have to give the best presentations I have ever given. Finally I will have to communicate with teachers, students and people from outside the academy to make it through here. Raising my social class is going to be the hardest goal I am going to try to accomplish. Achieving that goal will depend on whether I accomplish the other two goals that I have set for myself. Superior communication with companies outside of the academy will be key to getting a job that is going to fit my goal of making tons of money.
In conclusion, Kamkwamba and I had to face all things that solve all problems. I think I need harder working to success my degree. Kamkwamba use his interesting to create a windmill, and solve his family problems. Kamkwamba and I are more like our family, and would give their happy future.

Why do you think that this kind of thing happens? How many people do you know that have went to college and can honestly say that they are still working in general to graduate? Personally, there are not many people that I know who have graduated from a college which is why we see most people going back to school after so many years. There can be many reasons why a person does not finish school the first time around. May it be because of money issues, their interest were elsewhere at the time, a change in career directed their focus elsewhere, but whatever that may be it happens more than we would like to think. I just so happen to fall into this category of people going back to school after I had been once before but never finished. Throughout this essay I will inform readers on why I am returning back to school, my purpose behind it all, obstacles that have gotten in my way because I am returning and my ambitions that drove me to even consider going back to school. ...Connor Wilkinson 1301.160 Prof C J Arevalo 31 August 2015 Essay 1 Game Day that was No Game Day I remember it like it was yesterday. I had moved to College Station to attend Texas A&M and to find my freedom. On a hot, humid game day I was ready to sprout my wings and fly like a college student, or so I thought. From the time I was accepted into Texas A&M until this defining moment, I thought college was all about partying and drinking on game day and that everyone did this, no matter what your age. I found out rather quickly that this bad assumption on my part would lead me to learn a hard and valuable lesson about life and consequences. It started out pretty innocently. It was a night game so we had plenty of time to pre-party. My friends and I had decided to pre-party before the big football game. We had the golden ticket, my roommates were 21. They bought the alcohol and we helped consume it. What started as a typical Saturday ended on a sour note. After drinking in our apartment and getting hyped for the big game, we decided to head out to Northgate and carry-on with our revelry. Northgate is known as the party area of College Station and usually there is lots going on. This day was no different. Our first stop was the Chicken. After hooting and hollering with other A & M fans we moved on to the other hot spots for more partying. After our Northgate shenanigans we decided to head back to our apartment to cool off. This is when our great...

...How have the composers of the poems you will be discussing constructed their representations of women? Compare and contrast the themes and values represented in your two chosen poems.
The representation of women have changed throughout the course of history. The Ruined Maid composed by Thomas Hardy and I Am Man-made by Susan Wicks both incorporate similar values of the submissive nature of women, yet do not fail to integrate two very different values of female sexuality and male dominance, respectively. With reference to two visual texts, both poems successfully assimilate various literary and visual techniques such as irony, repetition, lighting and tone of voice. “The Ruined Maid” is a dramatic dialogue composed by English poet Thomas Hardy, to reveal the submissive nature of women in the mid 19th century. The theme is exhibited through a verbal exchange between two characters, Melia and the farm maid. Hardy plays on the word ‘ruined’ and questions which woman’s reality is harsher and suggests the irony of moral rectitude. Hardy’s poem depicts women as weak individuals. Both women have experienced the hardships of poverty, however the protagonist, Melia, steps up to go beyond and seek a better new life. Hardy presents woman as submissive through the indication that the woman is the one who has to lost her dignity and resorts into the last situation a woman would ever dream of, prostitution. Female sexuality has also been exploited in a similar manner. Though she has...

...Anonymous Donor Saves Shelters English 112 Professor Tara Ciccarone DeVry University Two women’s shelter that have basically been on life support for nearly two decades are now fighting to keep their doors open as more and more debt piles up. On Wednesday, October 16th, 2013, Clara Kirk, a 72-year old woman, said she was having difficulties paying for two different gas and water bills at her shelters that she runs to provide for women and children in need. One of the bills was roughly $21,000 and another bill was around $11,000 (Hutson, 2013). Due to the fact that she was unable to take care of those bills, the gas was shut off on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. This left all of the helpless people without heat or hot water which forced them to go to nearby cafeterias so they could get cleaned up. Clara’s Place, which houses 19 women and children, is one of the two shelters that have run out of gas. The other shelter – Clara’s House – also has approximately 40 women and is also in devastating financial misfortune. Both of these shelters have struggled financially in recent years, facing punishments from the town for building code violations and consequences from the IRS for being overdue on their payroll taxes (Hutson, 2013). With temperature going below 30 degrees, residents of both of these shelters finally had something be happy for. An anonymous donor has contributed a rather large sum of money in order to keep the gas successfully running at the two Chicago...

...Classification Essay: Cardiovascular Exercise A. Olived October 14, 2010 Eng 090 Mark Price In the past several years, it has become very clear to most people that exercise is beneficial and possibly even critical in maintaining optimal health. Many studies have shown that one particular form of exercise is the most effective in preventing premature disease and death and that is called cardiovascular exercise. Cardiovascular exercise or simply cardio, is defined in simple terms as any activity that raises your heart rate to a near maximum rate for an extended period of time. The most popular modes of cardiovascular exercise are running, using the elliptical machine, and swimming. Running or jogging has proven to be an excellent form of cardio. It is the most efficient way to burn calories, leading to weight loss. More importantly, it also uses several different muscles so the body is exerting a lot of effort which raises the heart rate. Although running provides great benefits to the body, there are also downfalls to this mode of cardio. One major disadvantage of running is that there is a constant striking motion as your feet hit the pavement or the treadmill belt so that results in quite a bit of wear and tear on the joints. Many complaints of arthritic pain or joint deterioration can be due to excessive running. Even with that disadvantage, running still sits at the top of the list as one of the most popular forms of cardiovascular exercise. Another type of popular...

...Sport Helmet Use in Soccer Soccer is one of the most played sports in the world. The history of modern soccer dates back to 1815, when the Cambridge Rules were established. The Cambridge Rules eliminated shin kicking and tripping but did nothing for protection of the head for players. Soccer players are competitive by nature, and are willing to go all out to win the game. With that said, how are rule makers making the game safe for young and older athletes? The debate for head protection is at the forefront of modern sports and soccer is at the top of the list. Athletes, such as soccer players, are at a high risk of head or brain injury and youth soccer leagues, high schools, colleges, and professional leagues alike must take a stand to protect their players. There have been multitudes of recent studies on head and brain injuries in sports and the results are troubling. Jenna McLaughlin states that, “Scientific studies have shown that rates of injury in soccer are comparable to football, ice hockey, lacrosse, and rugby.” When most think of head injuries in sports, soccer seems to slip the minds of those in the conversation. Soccer has a high risk of head injuries that come from player-to-player contact, player-to-ground contact, and player-to-goalpost contact (McLaughlin 1). When looking at the impact of collisions from player-to-player contact, all aspects and possibilities must be considered. Soccer players can collide heads when driving the ball down field...

Exemplification Essay (Eng 101)

...Exemplification Essay How many times have you heard the saying “It’s not the clothes that makes the person, it’s the person that makes the person?” I know it’s a mouth full. And we’d all like to believe that, right? But unfortunately in today’s society that’s not the case. How you dress is a representation of you. Like a first impression and we all know you only get one. But exactly why does it matter? Why would anyone care about how I dress? Well that’s what where here to find out. In today’s world how you dress is a reflection of you. It defines how people will react or treat you. Possibly even stereotype & judge you. Luckily it all depends on the type of social situation you are in. If you dress appropriately for the right occasion you’ll have nothing to worry about. Let’s use me for an example. I went job hunting for the first time when I was 16. I didn’t know any better. I went to different stores in the mall wearing a pair of ripped up jeans with my American Eagle striped polo shirt and my most favorite pair of black and white low top Chuck Taylors. I felt like I could conquer the world, or at least the mall. I went to the mall around 2pm and left around 5pm with no job applications. I didn’t understand it, every store I went into had a “Now Hiring” sign, but I kept getting turned down. Soon my “conquer the world” attitude disappeared as I took the bus back home. When I got home my grandma asked me how the job search went. When I told her what happened she sat me...

...ESSAY 1 Mike Gaston ENG 101 ENG 101 – C02 – Spring 2015 LUO THESIS: Chores are a beneficial and important factor in the upbringing of children for many reasons. Outline: INTRODUCTION: In the military I have met many people from many walks of life. What I have gathered and witnessed from my encounters were that basic household skills were lacking in some and not others. I found that many of the people I met who were not raised to do chores lacked basic household skills; whereas the people raised to do chores did not. The ones who lacked these household skills were at a disadvantage when it came time to living on their own; having to be taught how to do laundry, cook, and clean at the age of 21 was not only difficult for some, but embarrassing as well. I, as well as my brothers, were raised with the notion that chores were essential. Performing chores as children aided us into our adulthood. Chores helped us become better team players, it fostered a sense of discipline and personal responsibility and an understanding of risk/reward, and it also taught us basic life skills to living and surviving on our own. I still believe that chores are a beneficial and important factor in the upbringing of children in our society today. 1. CHORES AID IN BEING A BETTER TEAM PLAYER a. Chores teach children (siblings) to work as a team to speed up the cleaning process. b. They teach single kids to help the burden of cleaning for the parents ...

...The Safety of a Self-driving Car With the rise of technology dedicated to self-driving cars, people are asking the question "how safe are driverless cars compare to a traditional car?" First of all, to drive a self-driving car functioning by a computer or robot, the driver has to learn to control the functions. In 2011, a Google self-driving car was involved in an accident, and Google stated to the press that the driver was responsible for the driving. However, many critics became to question whether the technology behind the self-driving car are responsible for the accident. In the recent years, self-driving cars are tested on the road in several different states, and for the last years or so, Google had tested more than “700,000 miles” of accident-free driving from a driverless car. With self-driving cars, what are the obligations the operator have to make? If companies like Google, were to sell hundreds of thousands of these cars on the road, are they able to keep up the safety standard in a large number? The technology will also force regulators to rethink the car and driver relationship, and possibly place more emphasis on the regulation both the car and the driver. For instance, instead of certifying that a driver can pass a road test, the state might certify that a car can pass a test, upending the traditional drivers’ licensing system. In addition, the state of mind when you are for example, drunk, are you allow to operate a self-driving car? Due to the promising...

...Running head: THINKING ABOUT YOUR WRITING THINKING ABOUT YOUR WRITING Imron Quamina ENG 101 English Composition Excelsior College May 11, 2014 THINKING ABOUT YOUR WRITING Writing is something that we all human beings have to do whether we like it or not. Personally I am very fond of writing. In the childhood I used to write famous inspirational quotes in my diary with meaning. Then after that, life became too busy writing was done only when necessary such as writing application for leaves and doing assignments for my various online courses. Personally, I feel that the online courses have helped me a lot but there are still many areas that I can improve on. While writing an essay, my process is simple. I think about the topic I need to write and then bullet down the main points that I need to write and organize them and frame the essay. The most stressful thing I experience while writing with regards to writing about a particular topic. I have the habit of making it short and simple and sometimes I am able to add words to my essay. Though according to me my essay has all the points, but the lack of words does affect the meaning of the essay. Adding words to the essay is the most stressful part for me. The most rewarding was the essay that I helped me fetch praises from my teacher. I was never a good writer and when you receive praises for things you are not good at, it feels so good. ...courses during the summer, I had to enroll in a required ENG 105 course. Immediately, I thought that this course would be easy because all we will do is write essays. I thought I would be fully prepared by just going over Grammar rules and standardized test tips. In retrospect, after I have attended the class for almost the entire semester, I never expected to learn a new process of writing. During my time at high school, we never went over multiple stages of reflections, revisions, or writing skills. I usually just wrote for my enjoyment or for an assignment. I strongly believe that if I had learned these processes in high school, my papers would have benefitted greatly. As this semester comes to an end, I look back at everything I have accomplished in this class. I have acquired many writing techniques through annotations, in – class assignments, and multiple essays. Because of this, I have improved tremendously as a writer. Throughout the time I have spent in this writing course, I was reminded of how effective writing can be. As I further analyze my writing, I realized that I have learned how to become a real writer. The essays included will demonstrate the tremendous amount of strength I have gained in writing this semester. I believe that I am good organizing my writing in terms of placement and topics of each body paragraph. An example of this is in my first essay about my literacy sponsors. I organized the essay by beginning each body paragraph with a sentence that corresponds...
