National Study
Introduction
In this study I will research the development of different pathways in Table Tennis from first elite to representing your country. There are two pathways in order to progress as a performer; the school pathway or the club pathway.

The first level is to be selected for your school team (1); the school team will play in their league and star tournaments. (2) the county cup and the national cup. (3) Playing for the school team makes the player more experienced as they will be playing other schools which allow them to see how good other players are and so if they need to improve. If you’re a top player in the school your coach will direct you too etta regional competitions if you do well then you will get more known and start getting promoted to the professional ranks. District leagues are also a way of which coaches direct you to so you can improve in order to compete in high ranked competitions. (4) (6) (9)
The county (e.g. Middlesex tta) will select a team from the best players who play in their county club leagues. They will represent the league against other county leagues. (10) (5)
Case study- Premier club: Our aim is to create a national network of clubs that work together to grow participation in table tennis, support existing players to create a community from which future Internationals will emerge. We encourage Table Tennis Clubs, Leagues and Centres to join the PremierClub Programme so that this can be achieved. Premier club is mainly like a professional club. Free Public Liability Insurance with an indemnity limit of £5,000,00. An £50 discount on unlimited UKCC Bridging courses and a £30 discount on two UKCC Level 1 course. Support and advice from ETTA National and Regional Staff. An enhanced profile on the ETTA’s Spotlight Club Finder, so that people who want to play Table Tennis can find you. Opportunities to be involved in ETTA initiatives which last season included the London 2012 Ticket share Scheme, Gold Challenge and ASDA Sporting Chance. Free on marketing resources. Certificate of Affiliation. Entry into the ETTA Club of the Year Award. A Butterfly Skills Manual worth £49.A free TT Networker or Young Officials course upon completion of Club mark or reaccreditation, a saving of up to £350 for 14 candidates. An Accreditation Folder to help you achieve Club mark. Resources to help your club run more efficient. Help to access local and national funding.

Many professional clubs are home to the top players, which practice there. Premier clubs are similar. (11). these clubs provide coaching in schools but it will cost. (12). In order to gain access to the club you will have to be a very good player. There is an England national table tennis from a lot of ages, such as junior’s senior’s veterans. (13)

Talent identification:
Talent ID programmes in table tennis are known as scouts that are ETTA employees. These scouts must adhere strict rules but will go around the world watching youth table tennis to find talented players. (14). It is important to point out that they will not just be looking at results and ranking positions, but also style of play, potential, attitude, commitment etc. The purpose of the squad is to develop successful junior and senior players who can go on to win on the international scene. Players will constantly be invited to attend sessions on the recommendation of the talent scouts, who are working with their respective regional coaches. (20)

National governing body (NGB):
1. The NGB ETTA for table tennis is responsible for all areas of table tennis grass roots to the elite. (15)
2. The ESTTA are responsible for the school table tennis. (16)
The English Table Tennis Association (ETTA) is the governing body of table tennis in England, responsible for representing, coordinating, administering, regulating, promoting, marketing and developing the sport in close cooperation with related bodies such as the English Schools Table Tennis Association (ESTTA) and the British Table Tennis Association for People with Disabilities (BTTAD).
They also are developing the game and trying to make more children involved with the sport.
Funding available to players:
Table Tennis does not have funding but some schemes have funding for clubs, which the clubs direct onto their top players so they have a higher chance of becoming professional. Cash 4 Clubs Cash 4 Clubs is a sports funding scheme which gives clubs a unique chance to apply for grants to improve facilities, purchase new equipment, gain coaching qualifications, and generally invest in the sustainability of their club. Since 2008 over £100,000 has been given out in grants to 139 community sports clubs across the UK. It’s a flexible, no-fuss way to get some help for your club or team.
The Cash 4 Clubs scheme is funded by Betfair and is supported by SportsAid, the charity for sports people. Moreover cash 4 clubs have also been funding for players that are good enough, some players from schools have been funded so that they can have an education and at the same time be playing part time table tennis until they leave education.

Disabled:
Table tennis opportunities have certainly increased in the recent years, there is a more wide range of disabled Table Tennis players, and most players have a problem with themselves which classes them into different classes. (17). ETTA produced a disabled national team, which have competed in the Paralympics. (18). However in my opinion there still aren’t enough opportunities for disabled table tennis players; as when you compare the opportunities that are given to able body players.

Female: Female table tennis continues to grow now. However if you compare the overall number of female players compared to the number of male players is not close. The funding for females is not enough as some female players have not got female partners to practice with and might not feel comfortable practising with a male. In my opinion the female table tennis is growing but funding needs to increase, which will increase in participation.

Evaluation & conclusion:
From this study I conclude that club route is more effective than the school pathway. School pathways are fading as not a lot of kids are interested in table tennis and coaches have more interest in coaching in clubs as better players are opted to come there and produce professional players. Also a much wider range of disabled and women players however it’s still nothing compared to the males. Personally I think they should get the same amount of opportunity as everyone else, the etta need to consider making more opportunities for less fortunate. This relates to me as I tried to make a school pathway but now on club pathway playing for London table tennis academy.

Hello

...reasons why: * You prioritized the most pressing issues in the draft. Addressing the MI/T section helps Shawn strengthen the foundation of his essay. Your CD advice helps him satisfy his assignment requirement and further develop his discussion. Finally, the GM advice makes his sentences easy to read and understand. * You also provided Shawn with assignment specific examples and asked focused dialogic questions. These help him in revising effectively. * The comments effectively follow the ERF and acronyms and the PEEK and PE acronyms for embedded comments. Great work, Ann! I’m sure you can make your tutorial even stronger if you work on the following: Make your comments more personalized or specific to the draft. Some comments in the tutorial sound too general. Here’s an example: Remember to provide specific instances to illustrate your point. Aside from following the requirements of your paper, these supporting details help enhance your essay's claim. Because this comment is universal, it would also work in other tutorials. Since Smarthinking promises personalized tutorials to clients, it should always be reflected in the comments we give to each student. One way of personalizing your comments is using draft or assignment-specific terms. For instance, what is Shawn’s “point” about? Is he writing a “paper” or an “essay”? What is his “claim”? You also need to make the reason for revision specific to the student’s genre of writing...

Annie Proulx Essay

...Academic essay on Annie Proulx's "Job Story" Choices are something we all make. Not necessarily important choices, but there will always be a time to make them. It's not always good choices, but they have to be made. There will always be consequences, whether it's bad or good. Throughout the story, Leeland Lee has to make a lot of choices. Where to live, where to work and when to work. All the different choices he made, put him in the position he is now. Leeland Lee is an awkward-looking young boy. His face is heavily boned, which he has gotten from his mom, his neck is quite thick and he has red-gold hair. His eyes are as pouchy as a middle-aged alcoholic. His nose is broad and lays close to his face. Lori Bovee is Leeland Lee's wife. She has an undistinguished oval face, and hair of medium length. Leeland Lee is the protagonist of the story, because he is the main character. I would say Leeland is a flat and static character as he is an endless optimist. He doesn't give up when it comes to finding a new job, and despite his wife dying he still gets a job at Unique Eats. The reason he is a static character is because he doesn't change at all. After getting several different jobs he doesn't change anything, after his mom and wife dies he doesn't change one single thing except the fact he isn't listening to the radio anymore, but since that have been an important factor of the story all along, it can also show a lot about how he has changed. The story starts November...

Essay 1

...An essay is a piece of writing which is often written from an author's personal[->0] point of view[->1]. Essays can consist of a number of elements, including: literary criticism[->2], political manifestos[->3], learned arguments[->4], observations of daily life, recollections, and reflections of the author. The definition of an essay is vague, overlapping with those of an article[->5] and a short story[->6]. Almost all modern essays are written in prose[->7], but works in verse[->8] have been dubbed essays (e.g. Alexander Pope[->9]'s An Essay on Criticism[->10] and An Essay on Man[->11]). While brevity usually defines an essay, voluminous works like John Locke[->12]'s An Essay Concerning Human Understanding[->13] and Thomas Malthus[->14]'s An Essay on the Principle of Population[->15] are counterexamples. In some countries (e.g., the United States and Canada), essays have become a major part of formal education[->16]. Secondary students are taught structured essay formats to improve their writing skills, and admission essays[->17] are often used by universities[->18] in selecting applicants and, in the humanities and social sciences, as a way of assessing the performance of students during final exams. The concept of an "essay" has been extended to other mediums beyond writing. A film essay is a movie that often incorporates documentary film making styles and which focuses more on the evolution of a theme or an idea. A photographic essay[->19] is an attempt to cover a topic...

Liking Is for Cowards, Go for What Hurts

...We all know love. We have all loved in some kind of way. We love our parents, significant others and even our friends. But we can also love other things like animals or material things. But what is the difference between loving and liking? And is it better not to love and feel pain or to love and be hurt in the progress? Jonathan Franzen seeks to answer these questions in his essay “Liking Is for Cowards. Go for What Hurts”. The essay “Liking Is for Cowards. Go for What Hurts” is, as mentioned, written by Jonathan Franzen and published in The New York Times, May 28, 2011. Jonathan Franzen is born in 1959, and he is an acclaimed American novelist and essayist. The essay is based on the commencement speech he delivered at Kenyon College in Ohio, USA. “Our technology has become extremely adept in creating products that correspond to our fantasy ideal of an erotic relationship, in which the beloved object asks for nothing and gives everything, instantly. (…)” As Franzen claims in his essay, many people can feel like they love their technological object. It gives them a satisfaction, which human interaction maybe wouldn’t. Franzen however thinks, that people in general don’t love material things: they like them. There is a major difference between loving and liking – even though it might appear small. “Liking, in general, is commercial culture’s substitute for loving.” Products are made to be likeable, but if that concept in transferred to a person, you would instantly see...

Reaction - Salvation

...Reaction – “Salvation” The nonfiction short essay “Salvation” written by Langston Hughes in 1940, presents a theme on the literal and often manipulated perception of children. Hughes narrates the essay as he recounts his disappointing attempt at salvation. Hughes aunt told him that when she was saved by Jesus she saw a light, and felt something happen within herself. As children will do, Hughes took her story literally and was heartbroken as he sat in front of the church and watched other children “saved” while he was not. He believed that Jesus must not want him because he did not see or feel anything. In the end, Hughes is forced to lie about accepting Jesus and in turn rejects the Christian faith all together. I related to Hughes story on many accounts. I am a mother of three young children who perceive everything in life literally, and as a young girl I was raised in a very religious environment. I could visualize and almost feel Hughes devastation as he sat at the front of the church crushed by the thoughts of God not wanting him. “Still I kept waiting to see Jesus” (Barnet, Cain, & Burto, 2011, pp. 351). One of the churches that my family attended for a short time during my childhood practiced speaking in tongs. I specifically remember feeling just like Hughes during a service when other children were speaking in unnatural languages perceived to be sent from God himself. I could not understand why I was not chosen to talk for God and intern was hurt and...

No Wonder They Call Me a Bitch

...Dog Food Fried, Flipped and Devoured Eating dog food may not be seen as the easiest thing to stomach because the smell, texture and by-products found within the mixture are thought of as awful and revolting. In Ann Hodgman’s “No Wonder They Call Me a Bitch”, although the title may suggest otherwise, different types of dog food are discussed. In this essay, Hodgman aims to inform her readers about the inequality in different types of dog food, as well as to entertain and amuse. Hodgman is writing to a broad audience, one of dog lovers and owners, as well as those that may be curious as to what is really in dog food, or more generally the packaging and processing of mass-produced food of any kind. Language, description and humor are techniques Hodgman skillfully uses to create a strong, convincing essay. Within this essay, Hodgman continually uses diction and syntax that a diverse audience can understand and relate to. In the beginning, the reader feels repulsed by what is written. However, through a light tone of voice and sentence structure, the levity of the experiences and feelings occurring throughout the experiment is conveyed. The personal anecdotes and thoughts make the tone feel less formal and much more story-like. In this way, Hodgman produces a piece that connects the information and readers Shortly after capturing interest through stating questions, Hodgman begins using large amounts of description. Each type of dog food is explained and illustrated so well that...
