According to NapaStyle wine shop, half the pleasure of wine enjoyment is the sensation of complex aromas that defines the character of a wine. Learning to identify the subtleties of wine aromas enhances the wine tasting experience. This lead me to think of a way that I could use the essence kits to distinguish between wines that I may or may not enjoy. I went to the Total Wine and More Shop at the Shoppes at Greenridge on Woodruff Rd. The store is laid out by type of wine, and as I wandered around the clerk asked if I needed help selecting a bottle. After explaining my project, he suggested that I choose a selection of merlot wines, as they have bold noses that will be distinct enough to notice the differences. I chose three bottles that were under $10.00 each, a Bogle from California, a Spier from South Africa and a French Hob Nob. The Bogle Merlot is described as concentrated and full-bodied, with dark plum fruits and brighter summer cherry notes.
