...Identification Here at Marion General Hospital, there is a patient by the name of Margie Whitson, age 95, who is wishing (demanding) to have her pacemaker deactivated. She has provided the staff including the nurse, her primary physician, Dr. Vijay , and the social worker with her reasoning as to how and why she has reached this decision. It appears that no one has been able to change her mind; actually she is more adamant now more than ever. The dilemma that has presented itself here is should Mrs. Whitson request be granted; should her pacemaker be turned off although Margie' heart rhythm is now 100% paced meaning she is completely depending on the pacemaker for survival. Dr.Vijay has stated that he cannot deactivate due to ethical concerns. He does feels as a doctor he has did his job which was to save her life. To deactivate the pacemaker would be contradictory to his duties as a physician, and his human dignity. While on the other hand, a patient is generally allowed to make their own treatment decisions and the staff must respect their autonomy. Information As stated before Margie Whitson is a 95 year old lady who is a woman of great faith. She was married to her husband Earl for 68 years before his passing five years ago at the age of 88. Together they had two boys, one who died from a motorcycle accident in his thirties and another who spent three years with her at the same facility before passing a couple of weeks ago at the age of 73. There are no other family...

...relationships are critical to a successful business. Consider the problems you might have if you could not supply what the customer needs.at the time that they need it. The entrepreneur is the role model for employees. If your behavior includes lying to customers, taking money out of the cash register, or taking home some of the inventory or supplies, you cannot be surprised if your employees follow your lead. Your family members may see the business as their own and take things that really belong to the business. Employees may see this as being dishonest, or as a conflict with their needs for a raise in pay. We have seen successful businesses fail, we have witnessed profitably running businesses suffer from a downfall and some seemingly effective corporate receive a great fall in their profits and popularity. One of the main reasons behind these surprising failures was the lack of business ethics. A true understanding of the right and the wrong and the ability to distinguish between them is ethics. Ethics is an important part of life and running a successful business is no exception to this. To become successful, a business needs to be driven by strong ethical values. The mindset of a businessman creates a mindset for his/her company, which in turn sets the work culture of the business organization. For a business to prosper and maintain its wealth, it ought to be founded on certain ethical principles. A...

...with. Reading the article on the minimizer made me think of the thing that people say “There is no I in team”. This is the opposite approach of how most people typically refer to this phrase however, it still applies here. Mark (the minimizer) is actually part of a team, a team that includes three other people but yet he seems to think that he should only focus on his particular job duties and not have to play a part in the team project that he has been put on. The first thing I have to do is ask myself rather or not volunteered himself to be part of this project or if he was asked/chosen involuntarily to be part of this project. If he was asked/chosen to be on this project I would say that Mark should have been honest in the beginning and told whoever asked him that he was not interested in doing anything other than his specified job description. If Mark volunteered then I would have to ask myself why would a person like this who clearly knows that he does not have any interest in doing anything other than his particular responsibilities volunteer himself for something like that. HE clearly has no interest in furthering himself beyond the position that he is currently in and he is clearly content with performing only his specified job responsibilities. Project Review Meeting First things first, because this is my project that I am leading and as the project manager I am still responsible for making sure things are moving forward as planned and as smoothly as possible. ...MOVIE REVIEW Based on the three mini clips presented, one thing is surely important - our safety. Proper procedures and guidelines must be strictly followed by all crews on board. All members including the officers must have enough knowledge on how to use all electrical materials and gadgets on ship and they must apply it at all times. As seen on the movie, negligence and carelessness results damage to property and people on board. Accidents always happen when lack of concern and disobedience rules them. Therefore, everyone’s life becomes at risk. Small things which should not be a cause of trouble turn out to be a big mess and worst it sometimes leads to death. One specific example is from the clip showing the importance of electrical safety. Instead of testing all the electrical equipment first and wearing protective gloves and goggles, the character in the movie just plug it directly which results to his sudden death. In the movie Seven Sailors, it shows how carelessness affects the whole ship operation. Instead of taking it as a minor damage, it becomes larger to the extent which they never expected. For the last clip, Just Another Mishap, it emphasizes negligence on hospital ship. Proper medical ethics must be strictly followed even on board because lives of all officers and crews are at stake here. In the end, the movies only show how important for us to follow proper procedures no matter how simple the task may seem. Accidents always happen but can be controlled so long...

...Self-rating I always deal with problems derived from either customer or colleague. Even I think I am dealing with the problems, I realise that I did not dealt with the thing correctly and if I do, why is the problem there? So, in recognizing problems, I will try to remember where a thing I did wrongly started to emerge. When I get the root of the problem, I will try to use different kind of alternative solution for the problem that might occur in the future rather than the same solution I use that is causing me problem. Also, I will consult those who have bigger experience in dealing with that same field of problem and ask them the tips and method to tackle the problem. That is how I will improve my problem in recognizing and defining problems. Talking about using my verbal skills, I noticed that I managed to deliver my intended message clearly and precisely to my target receiver as the objective are to give maximum understanding to the listener. My orders, requests or speeches are short, quick and precise. The problem is that sometimes, I forgot to observe the norms and ethics in speaking and so I abandoned the value and relationship between parties when dealing. To overcome that, I will need to slow down and think precisely about the pros and cons of what I am speaking and try to get used to it. I will also think as if I am in their shoes as the receiving parties. “Practise makes perfect”. This quote will motivate me that, by slowing down and think about the possible...

...The amount factors that influence a person’s upbringing are uncountable. Arguably, the younger a child is the more prone to influence they are. At a young age, what one learns and the environment in which they learn it will shape their work ethic and willingness to learn for all the years to come. Fortunately for me all of years of reaching maturity were exceptionally positive. In this paper I will attempt to outline the major aspects of my development and how these have shaped my values. I grew up in the Alpharetta/Roswell area (just outside of Atlanta), a sparsely populated yet relatively prosperous town then, now it is a very wealthy and densely populated city. Today it is, per capita, the wealthiest area in Atlanta. This change has led me to recognize and value growth and progress. I had a fortunate upbringing and I expect my future to be no less prosperous, and if it holds anything less for me I would consider my self a failure. I have become so accustomed to living with nice things in an affluent area, and anything less just would not feel right. From the time I was born to when I first went to school I lived in the same area and in the same house. It is hard to say how this has affected me, but I am well aware that changing location repeatedly can have a negative effect on a child. The house I lived in was relatively nice. It was a common middle-class home; not big but by no means was it small. The house we moved in to in 1994 was larger and in a much nicer...

...and many other but those three are the ones that are displayed the most. Out of all qualities Abigail displays devious is the one greatly revealed. Throughout the story there are many events that happen that Abigail had something to do with, with each event Abigail always has a different story from what actually happens and convinces people that her story is the truth. One event that happens that displays this would be when Abigail was in the woods with the girls dancing and took it to the next level by drinking blood and taking off her clothing. Before the questioning of what happen in the woods Abigail states “Shut up! All of you. We danced. That is all, and mark this, if anyone breathe a word or the edge of a word about the other things, I will come to you in the black of some terrible night, and I will bring with me a pointy reckoning that will shudder you! And you know I can do it. I saw Indians smash my dear parents' heads on the pillow next to mine. And I have seen some reddish work done at night. And I can make you wish you had never seen the sun go down!” When it came down to the questioning of what happened...

...My favorite commercial is the Old Spice commercial that starts with a man in a shower and ends with him on a horse. Even after studying the film terms and how things are shot I just couldn’t figure out how this was shot, so I did some research to find out. I just had to know! Here is what I found and it worth the time to watch, it is so cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDk9jjdiXJQ The entire commercial is filmed in one take. There are no voice-overs. It is all a medium shot. The first scene is a man in a shower holding the product in question. They use a crane to remove the shower and drop a sweater onto his neck, but it is done so fast you can’t tell and he is suddenly on a boat. The item in his hand appears to turn from one thing to another right in from of your eyes. They are then careful to keep the camera just above his waist level and he is slid onto a horse so in the next shot he has moved from the boat to a horse. It looks almost impossible to be done without computer editing. It is amazing, but there is almost no computer graphics used. Clever scripting, great camera angles, and an awesome set are what make this commercial stand apart from the rest. As Leo Laporte says “this commercial just makes you want to smell like this...

...Dear Lord tell me why. I’ve been sitting here for hours just thinking about yesterday. It seems like every time I do think about it my heart shatters even more as tears run down my face like two never ending rivers. While I sit, I ask God over and over what did I do to deserve this. But of course there is no answer or reply. There are a couple of things that really hurt me yesterday and I mean REALLY!!! I was so hurt when Claudio said I as in me cheated on him when I know I did no such thing. Doesn’t he know how much I love him? Then another thing is my father; how could he say those things? How could he want to kill or disown me like that? He says he’s ashamed of me but after hearing what he said it is I who is ashamed of him. He should believe me because I’ve never done anything to sway his trust in me. I’ve been a loyal and faithful daughter. But the good things about this situation are that the Friar, Beatrice, and Benedick believe me. For this I am most thankful because it shows me who I can really trust. Now, there’s a plan for me to play dead so that Claudio can feel guilty for ‘killing’ me. The thing is even if I am madly and undeniably in love with him will I be able to forgive him easily. I feel the same towards my father will I forgive him easily once he finds out I’m innocent. There is so much to think about but I don’t yet. This situation is so hard on me. I’m not use to this kind of treatment, this torturous pain and it’s so hard to deal with...

...Important Things I have many important things in my life that I could not live without. From people I know, to places I visit, even the music I listen to all means something to me. The very first thing that comes to mind when someone asks me what is important to me are the people that are important to me. My sister Krista is by far the best sister I could ever ask for; if I need anything she would be the first person that I go to for help. For example one time I got kicked out of a party at 3am and Krista came to pick me up. She is always there to talk about my problems and help me out. Obviously like any other normal siblings we do argue a lot, but it never lasts for very long. Krista is by far my favourite family member. Another person in my life that is extremely important to me is my nephew Cole. He is one year old and is the cutest baby I have ever seen. Cole can cheer me up even when I am in the worst mood. I remember one time I was having the worst day and nothing seemed to go right. I was being rude to everybody and nothing could make me smile. When I got home from school my sister showed up for a surprise visit with Cole and I instantly got the biggest smile on my face. It is impossible for me to be in a bad mood around him. Another thing that comes to mind when I'm asked what is important to me are the material things. I could never live without my iPod; I have a different playlist of music for every type of mood I am in. Music makes me happy when I'm upset...

...Because It Is Running By Everyone have dreams, and everyone has to make grand choices some day in their lives. “Because It Is Running By” is a short story written by Jo Llyod, which deals with the lack of courage in taking a step towards our dreams, which many people has and can have. In the story we are following Wil, who is a relatively young man, working on a farm and still living with his mother. Wil has dreams about exploring the world and experience what it has to offer, but several things has kept him back and tied him to his childhood, working on the farm his family owns, doing his daily duties. Wil´s mom is presented as a hardworking woman, since we from the very beginning gets introduced to this woman called Edie, who is supposed to assist Wil´s mom with her duties, finally giving her more spare time. Edie and Wil´s relationship later on evolves into love. Edie has done the thing Wil couldn´t. She broke her daily routine, took the step and travelled. Therefore Wil admires what she stands for and immediately falls in love with her. Then he begins to explain to her, how he had intentions of moving out and gone to college as well “I could´ve done my A levels, he said. Could´ve gone to college (…) Left when I was sixteen. When my dad died.” In other words, did Wil because of his father´s death, give up his dreams and his studies and never came back on the horse. Later on Wil talks about the caravan which has become a symbol of his dreams of travelling in the world...

...history. His road to success was not so easy though. He was mistreated by all of the other white players in the league because they didn’t like him. Jackie Robinson was constantly getting big cuts on his legs because when he would slide into base, the other players would get him with the bottom of their cleats. Jackie Robinson was on the Brooklyn Dodgers so many of his own teammates did not like him. Many of the pitchers from other teams threw the ball at him which gave him many bruises. Despite all of this, Jackie Robinson became a star in baseball and led the Brooklyn Dodgers to a World Series appearance. This example of Jackie Robinson shows that no matter how much adversity you go through, if you keep on working hard, you can achieve great things. Heroes also show the great quality of perseverance. Harriet Tubman is someone who showed exemplary perseverance. She was a slave that worked hard, but was still abused by her plantation owner. One day she decided that she was going to escape and that’s exactly what she did. She made it off the plantation and eventually found some people that thought slavery was wrong and decided to hide Harriet in their attic. They then helped Harriet find all of the safe houses. Once Harriet made it to freedom in one of the northern states, she had a thought. She thought there were so many other slaves that were...
