Codes of ethics are designed to protect the client, counselor and the profession. This report will compare and contrast three separate areas within each of the two ethics codes. Ethical Codes and Cultural Competence

...Ethical Codes and Cultural Competence The code of ethics is to be followed in the human service field, to help counselors keep the “human” out of the relationship. What I mean by this is the code of ethics allows counselor’s to deal with the problem and coming up with a solution. The solution will be based on that particular client the counselor is assisting at the time, that client’s circumstances, strengths, and weaknesses. A counselor should know that no two clients are the same and therefore their problems cannot be handled using the same techniques (Remley & Herlihy, 2016). Counselors are urged to “actively attempt to understand the diverse cultural backgrounds of the clients they serve (Remley & Herlihy, 2016). Taking the human out of the helping relationship means the counselor places their feelings to the side and deal only with the facts presented in an effort to help the client come up with a solution. The helping profession is all about assisting clients with problems to help them get back on the correct path of life. It is not about a counselor telling a client what they need to do and how to do it. The code of ethics gives a general guideline to help the counselor keep the client as the main focus of the relationship (Remley & Herlihy, 2016). A client has rights and the objective of the counselor is to respect those rights while helping the client come up with solutions to the problems they are facing. The code of ethics also can protect counselors...

Code of Ethics Compare/Contrast

...Code of Ethics Compare & Contras Concordia University Code of Ethics Compare & Contrast The three codes of ethics that I chose to compare and contrast are those of the American Health Care Association (AHCA), the Health Information Professionals (HIP), and the American Nurses Association (ANA). Each one of these organizations have areas that are very similar to each other, as well as areas that are completely different. This paper points out the most common ethical codes which are practiced by each of the three establishments while on the same hand showing how vastly different they are. American Health Care Association The first code of ethics is from the American Health Care Association, or AHCA for short. What I found interesting about this particular code of ethics was that it seemed to be right down the middle compared to the other two. The ethics of the AHCA seem to be greatly centered on long term care for those in the community who need it and the standards of which they are upheld to. There is also more emphasis on self-accountability and just being a good person by doing what is right. The AHCA also considers itself as a model for other healthcare organizations when it comes to establishing the moral guidelines for employers as well as employees to follow. Patient advocacy and the strength of the relationship with the community are repeatedly emphasized in these ethics codes, which suggests that above all, healthcare providers should put the needs...

Objective 310.2.3-08 Develop an Ethics Program

...be paying with funds provided by government sources, we have decided it would be appropriate to have an ethics program in place before we start offering services. A company must have an effective ethics program to ensure that all employees understand its values and comply with the policies and codes of conduct that create its ethical culture (Ferrell, Ferrell & Fraedrich, 2008, p. 211). In order to develop an effective ethics program, it must contain certain items. It must first have a code of conduct to establish what is and is not acceptable behavior and to set a general corporate tone as to how employees are expected to conduct themselves. Second, it should have a high level corporate officer in charge of the program. This will also help demonstrate the importance of ethics to the corporation. Third, an effective and ongoing ethics training program is necessary to ensure all employees are aware of what is expected of them. Fourth, a system to monitor and enforce ethical standards must be in place in order to hold employees accountable for their actions and lastly, it must have a mechanism to modify and improve the program when deficiencies appear. When developing our code of conduct, we will use a values orientation instead of a compliance orientation. A compliance orientation approach sets a negative tone, as it sets regulations and rules and the punishment for violating them. A values approach is positive and inclusive and motivates people to willingly follow...

Code of Ethics

...Iranian Journal of Public Health Tehran University of Medical Sciences The Code of Ethics for Nurses F Zahedi, M Sanjari, [...], and M Vahid Dastgerdi Additional article information Abstract Nurses are ever-increasingly confronted with complex concerns in their practice. Codes of ethics are fundamental guidance for nursing as many other professions. Although there are authentic international codes of ethics for nurses, the national code would be the additional assistance provided for clinical nurses in their complex roles in care of patients, education, research and management of some parts of health care system in the country. A national code can provide nurses with culturally-adapted guidance and help them to make ethical decisions more closely to the Iranian-Islamic background. Given the general acknowledgement of the need, the National Code of Ethics for Nurses was compiled as a joint project (2009–2011). The Code was approved by the Health Policy Council of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education and communicated to all universities, healthcare centers, hospitals and research centers early in 2011. The focus of this article is on the course of action through which the Code was compiled, amended and approved. The main concepts of the code will be also presented here. Code of Ethics in a Corporation

...employee carry a firm moral code even when they are not present at workplaces such as priests, CEOs, and other public or civil servants while other occupations are more lax or do not even require anything more of their employees rather than to show up on time and perform at expected performance levels. The varying levels of standards, in regards to moral code, with the multitude of industries pose the question of what the underlining basis of these rules are. Because as an employer or manager contemplates the reasoning behind the termination of an employee, there must be a general rule of thumb to abide by in order to make the decision. The rules that the employer or manager relies on are called ethics. When an employee is considered for termination, an ethical approach from the employer’s side as well as the employee’s side must be apparent and clear. In order to better understand the role ethics play in employee relations, we must have a thorough understanding of what ethics is and it’s importance in the business environment. Furthermore, in the context of employee termination, we must also understand the role of ethics from the employer side as well as the employee side to appreciate and solidify firm reasons for termination. Ethics is defined by Mark S. Swartz as a set of universal moral standards: which includes: respect, trustworthiness, responsibility, caring, fairness, and citizenship. These moral standards are commonly the foundation of the code of...

...highest of standards. This is especially true for someone who teaches young children. According to the NAEYC’s Code of Ethical Conduct, "P-1.2—We shall not participate in practices that discriminate against children by denying benefits, giving special advantages, or excluding them from programs or activities on the basis of their race, religion, sex, national origin, or the status, behavior, or beliefs of their parents” (Naeyc.org). If the code gets violated it will not end up positive for either party involved. I work for a local Head Start program in Guthrie Oklahoma. Every teacher must uphold the ethical code of conduct. If a teacher is found violating the code he or she must answer for the violation. Incident Description In the spring of last year the four year old teacher had a child in her class who had a behavioral problem. The teacher tried everything that she could to get the child to behave. The child would have good days and bad days. Towards the end of the school year the good days were few and far between. The teacher decided to tell the child’s parent that he was no longer allowed to be in her class. This is not only a ethical violation but it is also a Head Start violation. She told the parent that the child was not allowed to be at graduation because of his behavior. Outcome The Head Start program that I work for makes it a point to follow all ethical rules and regulation. They go above and beyond to make sure that every child gets the best education in a healthy...

Accounting Ethics

...question of whether they should differ can be addressed more comprehensively. So firstly, what are personal ethics? We all have them but so many people seem to be unsure as to what they really are. "Ethics is a code of values which guide our choices and actions and determine the purpose and course of our lives." (Ayn Rand 1955) If we continue on the road to understanding we learn that ethics are learnt and adopted over time. “Moral character is shaped by family, church, and education.” (Prof Kenneth Andrews, 1989) This clearly illustrates that personal ethics are not a generic set of principles adopted homogenously by all people but that there is are many differences between individuals personal ethics and what some people would say is right and moral, others would say is not, and others would simply be indifferent. Professional ethics, on the other hand, are defined as the ‘giving of one’s best to ensure that clients’ interests are properly cared for, but in doing so the wider public interest is also recognized and respected’. (Howard Land, Unknown date). The specific code of ethics that a professional adheres to depends on the line of work in which they find themselves and to which certification of charter they belong. It is essential to note that all codes of professional ethics are in place for the good of the client and the general public. Clearly their intention is good- companies want to ensure consistency of values and that employees operate in an honest manner...

Code of Ethics

...Code of Ethics Teresa Sieck ETH/ 316 July 2, 2012 Ed McCullough Code of Ethics A code of ethics is a collection of principles practiced and followed by management of businesses and corporations around the world (Spiro, 2010). A businesses code of ethics works with a company’s mission statement and policies of conduct that gives employees, partners, venders, and outsiders an understanding of what the company stands for and believes in (Boylan, 2009). It should address the differences or variations in both company’s industry and its broader goals for social responsibility (How to create a company code of ethics, 2012). It should be strong enough to serve as a guide for employees with questions to resolve issues on their own if needed (Trevino & Nelson, 2007). Wal-Mart is one of the largest corporations in the United States. As one of the largest corporations the company has a social responsibility to their employees, customers, and the community. The code of ethics works with and around these principals. Wal-Mart has three basic principles, 1) respect for the individual, 2) service to the customer, and 3) striving for excellence (What is Wal-Mart’s Code of ethics, 2011). The following is an example of what a code of ethics could be and what values a business may have. Vision Statement: People are assets not possessions; employees, customers, and communities should be treated with fairness, respect, honesty and integrity. The corporation’s global vision is to...

It will take a look at the differences and similarities shared between the two organizations, respectfully. It will examine confidentiality, dual roles and sexual intimacies. Establishing trust between the client and therapist is crucial in developing a relationship within the therapeutic structure. In the role of counselor, it is imperative that confidential information shared by the client isn’t divulged outside of the confines of therapy unless the client has given the therapist permission to do so. The only exception in which a therapist can break the client-therapist confidentiality is within the context of the law. It is important for a therapist to discuss confidentiality and its limitations within the initial consult of therapy. When counseling a family or more than one person during a...
